    Just cleaned my throttle body and it made a great difference. When I restarted the car, the RPMs went up to 2000 and I could get it to come down. I shortcut the procedure and didn't unhook the battery cable. I realized that the high RPMs was a learned position to the ECM. I unhooked and then reconnect the cable and the idle was then normal. Running great! Thanks.

    FYI...clean your MAF sensor while your at it, but use MAF spray cleaner.

    Wow, you did all of that and only completed half the job. The 1.8 liter ZZFE Toyota engine is
    " notorious " for compressing the intake manifold to head gasket. It's intended that way to check the thermal expansion properties of 2 dissimilar materials. At the correct interval ( heat cycles ) replace the $9 gasket. With 1 from Felpro. This message has been approved by Scotty Kilmer. Rave ON

    My vibes throttle body needs to be cleaned every year as the gas peddle gets sticky. The cleaner doesn’t work, I have to take my hand drill with a rounded soft grinder bit from harbor freight and lightly grind around the butterfly contact. Works great every time, 9 years now

    I get a rough idle AFTER the engine warms up in humid conditions (fall, spring and big temp fluctuations in winter). I'm going to try this procedure and see if it helps. I already change out the plugs and cleaned the MAF sensor. The throttle bounces up and down somewhat at idle and it's more pronounced while in gear.

    Your target is just to dissolve blackish built up with air intake (brake) cleaner and remove it from inside of "Throttle Body". Use normal toothbrush! No brass !
    And to achieve good result no need to remove that "Throttle Body" unit - just remove rubber intake pipe and clean the unit inside manually opening the damper.
    Do not go too deep - just before and beyond the damper. Use soft clean cloth to wipe the dirt.

    • @acegolfman3203
      @acegolfman3203 6 місяців тому

      Yeah, i never remove it. I use an electric drill with a soft grind bit to clean it as the fluid and toothbrush never work. So no fear of being too aggressive imo

    i did this tune up this weekend past and i swear mine looked just a dirty, +200k on the dash by the way. I also went ahead and cleaned the MAF sensor, mein that thing was visibly coated with dirt. Those 2 things i did and already see a change in response when i press the gas. Next project will be the plugs and PCV.

      What is a MAF sensor? What is a PCV?

    • @niceguy192
      @niceguy192 2 роки тому

      @@pampierce itt easy to locate on these engines, the MAF is right after the air filter box, small square/ rectangular shape with 2 screws holding it down on the top with a 5 pin connector. The PCV is also easy to stop, its right at the back of engine screwed into the valve pan cover, you would have to take off the engine cover first to see it good.

    I think a bigger danger than operating the butterfly, is cleaning fluid getting into the idle speed control valve (the electric motor portion). .

    Does coolant actually come out of those hoses when you take them off? Also is there a gasket or oring that should be replaced between the throttle body and the intake manifold? I'm going to do this, trace the intake gasket, and probably also replace the valve cover gaskets because I noticed my motor has oil residue on it above or around the intake manifold.

    I just bought my gf an 05 Vibe. It's hunting for an idle. It's not like a Honda with a bad IAC valve, but a slight hunt, do you know what this could be

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  4 роки тому +2

      It has an idle relearn for lack of a better term. Basically when you disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then restart the car it will self learn where to idle. IDK if this will help but it's free to try. If that doesn't fix it it could be an intake leak somewhere.

    • @joshatkinson01
      @joshatkinson01 4 роки тому +1

      Appreciate it sir,I'll give it a try. The gentleman that owned it before me just had a new exhaust manifold put on and he said they didn't replace the o2 sensor, I have 2 diff o2 codes (P0031 & P0134) this could possibly affect my hunting idle, I'm going to buy a new upstream Denso o2 sensor and see if it helps

    My 06 vibe with 40,000 miles on it idles rough while in drive at a stand still. I cleaned the maf sensor. I sprayed it down with carb cleaner to expose a evap leak but it didn't change the idle at all so I doubt it's an evap leak. I guess I'll try this. Any other ideas? I had a p0171 code which is fuel trim system lean. But after cleaning the maf and resetting it the code hasn't came back yet.

    Brake cleaner on a MAF is not recommended. Could be too caustic since the MAF is a VERY sensitive piece of equipment.
