Many times during this pandemic I've felt like I was nothing. I was at my lowest point in life. I felt so alone. I listened to this song about 100 times now. I absolutely love it. It really means something to me. It made me feel better. It's nice, thanks Relient K.
If you are going to be hateful toward an atheist or Christian then you should get out of the comments. Because we are all here for the reason of enjoying this song. So it honestly shouldn't matter to you why another person listens to it.
Congratulations. You're one of the few atheists who has realized that being an atheist doesn't mean hating everything that has anything to do with religion.
I think I'm going to recommend this song to my Bible teacher for Chapel and stuff. It reminds me that God is always there, and I bc it's those tough teenage years for all my peers and I, I hope it will help make a difference in my life and my fellow peers. I love this song btw!!
This song made me change my mind about taking my own life. I was about to take all of my hydrocodone pills and end it all, but as I dumped the bottle into my mouth this song came on Pandora on a secular station and spoke to me. No matter how hard times can be, God has a plan for every single one of us. This year was the hardest year of my life, I lost both of the people who raised me, lost their home to foreclosure, almost losing my brother to meth addiction but God still has a plan and we have to just open our ears and listen to it.
Hey there, I just want to say I praise God for having this song play when you were about to make that decision. It's incredible to see His faithfulness come through at our darkest moments. God has an amazing plan for your future and He will carry you through every trial! I am praying for you and your brother x p.s. i recommend the band twenty one pilots, they have a lot of Christian undertones throughout their songs and they have helped and encouraged me and my faith :)
Wow, hallelujah! God has a good plan for you that He's saved you for, and He loves you more than you can imagine. God bless you, and I'm so glad of what He's done for you!
I grew up with this song that my big brother played and now I'm old enough to understand why he loved it so much. Jordan, if you're out there somewhere still listening to all those songs, your little sister still loves you.

Agrith Brand New are not Christian. They're one of my favorite bands-- I should know. It's cool listening to Thrice and The Used in quick succession-- it's like a musical theological debate, their worldviews are so diametrically opposed.
emily_sixx Skillet is a band that I'd call a guilty pleasure. I like their big, orchestral sound on some of their songs, they are often really catchy and Jen Ledger is smoking hot, but their lyrics are so simplistic and cringeworthy and John Cooper sounds like Adam Gontier-- he makes my ears bleed. And yet I still know all the words to "Monster". Also, Red are just so much better as far as Christian symphonic alt-metal is concerned.
I'm a Christian and I've always known this song was written with the thought of God in mind. But music is a creative place where anyone can have any meaning behind a song. I think the matter of having a religion or having no religion shouldn't matter when it comes to how music can make you feel. So if you enjoy this song enjoy it.
When i was in sin, i interpreted this song with darkness. Now, as a Christian-- I realize all he's talking to is God, and now this song is light to me C: It's beautiful
I've been listening to this song for YEARS and I never once thought of it as religious on any level. It's always made me think of my boyfriend, not Jesus lol.
Yesterday I was having a big problem with fighting an old addiction that came back with a vengeance, I sang it through tears and realised what its about, maybe not what its about to you, maybe not what it was meant to be about. But to me, its about a struggling addict finding christs grace. Art is subjective on every level.
I didn’t realize this was a Christian song honestly...i listened to it when I was younger and just came across it again today. Either way I enjoy it and it puts me in such a good mood 😊
As an atheist, I don't give a shit if this song is religious, I still like it. The other atheists in the comment need to calm down, they're making atheists look bad when they bash theists on a religious song's video.
+Bcwyfkp6 Thank you so much. I feel the same way. Music is open to interpretation of the listener. This is one of my favorite love songs, whether you feel it as love for Jesus Christ or love for your significant other.
this song reminds me of so many things back when I was a kid, I used to listen to them all the time, them started listening to stuff like black veil brides and falling in reverse, buy I was scrolling through my UA-cam and saw this on the suggested videos,I thought ,"why not" and tapped on it... I forgot how much I used to love this song
This song made me change my mind about taking my own life and made me realize God works in mystery ways. I had my hydrocodone bottle in my hand about to dump it down my throat when this song came on Pandora on a secular station and lyrics cut thru to me like a warm knife thru butter. It made me realize no matter what obstacles we face, God has a plan for every single one of us. Whether we are black, white, yellow, blue etc.. All of us are made in his image and has a purpose for each and every one of us.
Regardless of whether or not this is an actual Christian song, I think this is a beautiful song that anyone can relate to, even if they're not interpreting it in the same way the writer has written it ^^
Love this song... Reminds me that even though I make mistakes and doubt myself, it's the fact that I let it control me that kills me slowly. Ultimately, I've created my own prison, but God holds the key, and he's waiting to set me free, I just gotta let Him. God bless y'all.
This is a wonderful song that can be interpreted in many ways. Yes, it's by a Christian band, but one can still appreciate the music for what it is, no matter their religion, or lack thereof. And if to some this song is about Jesus, then that's what it means to them. If to some it's a love song, then that's what it means to them. Who are you to say it's wrong?
Well, no. The song IS a Christian song and it IS about God/Jesus. However, you have the freedom to choose how YOU look at it. That doesn't change what it is about, but as a listener you do have the right to ignore the meaning that the creator of the piece gave it.
I wasn't fully aware of that, but I still stick to most of what I said previously. Music is the kind of thing that has a different meaning to everyone. It's one of the best things about it! I have spent the last several hours trying to figure out the lyrics for this song so I could listen to it again. It's been over ten years since I've heard it. Ah, memories
If the people in this comment section didn't mention anything about religion I could have continued on thinking that this song was about someone who felt as if they were trapped by society, and that a girl was his only key to escape. I didn't even know this was Christian, but as I was listening to it, I couldn't help but think about Jesus helping us escape from sin. Come to find out, that is what it's about.
im an atheist and i loved this shit when i was younger i just felt it was really uplifting in general i didnt even realize they were christian and i dont really think it fucking matters
You know, there's a bit of irony here in that I loved this song when I heard it so many years ago but I never realized the Christian undertones until now... and I've been a Christian for most of my life :P
I saw them live when i went to Warped Tour in Noblesville, IN. It was nearly an hour and a half drive + traffic, and it was worth every second. They have so much presence and passion with every lyric. Managed to be at the barricade and was lucky enough to have Matt continuously sing to me and my surrounding friends. When it says "And I'm begging you to be my escape" we both clutched our chests and threw our other hand out at each other, locking eyes. I died and went to heaven afterwards.
I like this song even though I'm atheist. I personally think the lyrics can be interpreted in many different ways. I always think of it being about escaping from life's problems in general. I also think of it being escape from drugs, the band was interviewed on the "Natural High" video we were shown in middle school and high school.
This song help save my life I was about to kill myself and took all my hydrocodone pills and put them in my hand and was about the swallow them when this song popped up on Pandora on a secular station and made me think that God has a purpose for me no matter how hard the times are and no matter what's going on in this world there's always a plan always. There is a divine creator watching over us and this song spoke to me and made me realize that even though I was going through a tough time losing both my grandparents who raised me, my best friend, almost losing my brother to drug addiction, and unbearable pain in my leg from pieces of shrapnel from a gunshot that God will always be there for me in my time of need. If your going thru a tough time it doesn't matter if we are atheist or Christians God loves every single one of us. We are all his creation and will always be the best friend any of can have.
This is a song with Christian intentions yes, but I would like to go on the record to say most of the bands like this make their music for both Christian and Non- Christian audience, meaning that there might be variant meaning of the song on a person to person basis. I really wish everyone would stop swearing and getting all angry at each other in the comments, if you really think that swearing at people in the comments or writing hateful things makes you any smarter then you're not very smart in the first place. Regardless of the meaning of the song I'm sure the band never made this song to have people fight about it. Thank you, and have a nice day.
This song is amazing. I play it all the time. And to agree who cares what religion they are? If their good it doesn't matter. And these guys definitely are.
How about eeveryone just leave everyone alone? Some may believe that this is a religious song, and some may believe its not. Hell someone could be like "Oh man, this song is so to my imaginary best friend who is a giraffe named Jephrimal!" Who cares?! Just sit back and enjoy the music my friends.
Back when this song came out, some of my friends were jamming to it and I was like, "Whoa, this song is way too hardcore for someone our age." Ah, the sheltered life, haha XD
This song can be interpreted as a Christian song or in any way the listener wants to. I don't think it's a Christian song and I interpret it as more of a song of two people that like each other and one has made many mistakes and failed and has never been really stable or secure in life. I think the one is begging the other to save them, help them, and be their escape from the pain they've caused themselves.
Sadly, most proclaimed Christians are idiotic and evangelical and most proclaimed Atheists are hypocritical pricks. Otherwise, we would have a much more idyllic UA-cam comment section. However, it is not about what you THINK, it is about how you interpret it personally. You cannot deny the fact that it IS a Christian song, because that is what the band says. However, you can interpret it any way you want to. :D
***** Music videos mean nothing. Have you seen the one for Radioactive, by Imagine Dragons? While I also hate the fact that everyone feels the need to argue over a song's meaning, the point where I jump in is when people start to deny what's objective. This band IS (proclaimed) Christian, and the song DOES have Christian undertones, but you DON'T need to follow or understand or care about them and you CAN interpret it however you want. But yeah, as long as their are people to bitch, they will bitch. The reason why you get singled out as the antagonist in a situation is because much of the time, when someone declares that they don't believe in God, it is because they are about to insult Christians or say that it is a fact that God doesn't exist. Just like with Christians, when they say they are Christian they are much of the time about to start spouting off Bible verses or try to evangelize someone.
***** Yeah, but the songs are almost always Christian undertone-y in nature. When someone says that a band is a "Christian band", they tend to mean that the genre of music is Christian Rock. Or, you know, Christian Country and all the other Christian genres.
***** Interpretation is a really good thing. The band proclaimed themselves to be "Christian Rock" and the song was most likely proclaimed to be a "Christian" song. It's probably about someone trying to let God in. However, I interpret it my way. I've noticed religion and trolls seem to cause so many comment wars. Not everyone will think the same way as another person. People tend to ignore that concept. To close it off, interpretation is a good thing, and we may do it our own ways or the way it was meant to be according to the maker of the thing being interpreted.
I remember first hearing this song years ago when I was in the 6th grade. I was obsessed with it and this one book trilogy I was reading called "Matched." The song always made me think about the main character;...now whenever I hear this song I smile because I miss those days badly.
Im catholic. Two of my best friends who is like a sibling is aethiest (not sure if i spelt that right.) We get along great and religion has never been a issue between us as friends.
My friend left me his playlist before he passed this song was on it so I feel like this song was a sign for what he was going through I will always keep his playlist saved. I miss my bro everyday it's sad everyone missed the signs that he was hurting so much inside.
You know what, screw you, If you allow your own dismissal of a religion to control what you like, then you don't deserve to hear this song, sure it may might have originally meant something that you disagree with, but that doesn't mean that you have to dislike the song.
Well if you allow your dismissal of my beliefs to control how you respond to me, then you don't deserve to read my comment. So there. Your move fellow UA-camr. That was a joke. But honestly, for me, it really does ruin the song. I'm not saying it's a bad song, it's just not for me.
Way to love your neighbour as yourself Joshua. You're definitely demonstrating the love of Christ. Check yourself before you wreck yourself, and our faith along with that.
I remember listening to this song when I was in like 6th grade and I thought that I would practically die without him. Now, I see him in the halls and I'm all like, "Eh, whatever." Now, I feel like I can't live without this other guy. Listening to this song somehow reminds me that life goes on. :)
Exactly people are so annoying trying to argue in the comments about religion I really hope poeple understand some day and stop trying to fight with God
besides the song NEVER mentions God. Yeah, it can be assumed that "you" is referring to God, but never is it directly mentioned. If they hate Christianity, it doesn't have to be God, it can be their ex
+Zoe Nast The band is christian and only makes christian music, and it pretty obvious that its god theyre talking to in the first verse. Its still a good song for getting out a rut even if its religious.
when he said "dadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadada" I really felt that
Christian or not, this song is amazing and I just can't believe there are people that says things like: "I'm atheist and didn't know this song was christian". I mean, it doesn't make you more or less to listen a song like this, there are religious people that listen to black metal and they don't make such a fuss about it.
This song made me change my mind about taking my own life and made me realize God works in mystery ways. I had my hydrocodone bottle in my hand about to dump it down my throat when this song came on Pandora on a secular station and lyrics cut thru to me like a warm knife thru butter.
Ugh.... why can't people just listen to a song without making a big deal out of it? Look I am not a very religious person, I don't go to church and I've never read the Bible, but I do believe in God. And while I believe in God I do know it takes more than praying to get something done, there are cases where all I can do is pray, but there are also points where only I can or someone close to me can help me. I can pray to God all I want to let me become a director but at the end of the day I'm the only one who can make that happen. I can pray to help someone I care about or I can get off my butt and help them myself. There are times that God can't answer my prays but that doesn't mean I can't go and do it myself.... now please shut up and enjoy a good song.
I didn't know this was about Christianity until I read the comments, I should have known this. I'm an Atheist from a Christian family and I will take the secret to my grave.

+Michelle Dukeman Amen to that! Too soon?
Preach!
We should all respect people's religious decision even if we don't agree with them.
if you're only one step into the meta of the comments you should just GIT OUT
Exactly. We should just enjoy the song whether your athiest or Christian. After all we are all fucking humans so cut the shit.
I'm an atheist and knew this song for many years before finding out that it was about Jesus-- and I still like it anyway.
It's a very good song.
I thought it was about a girl then I hear "he". Then I thought he was gay.
I thought it was about suicide........
Congratulations. You're one of the few atheists who has realized that being an atheist doesn't mean hating everything that has anything to do with religion.

It's been 4...or maybe 5 years since i last heard this band. I can't help but feel refreshed with all the memories it brought back to me. :)

"But the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair". - The more life you live, the more powerful this single line hits.

-By far the most true statement that I've ever heard in a song :)

I would liike but there was no loke, so this is the like xD
Super like
Lol. That's what I thought about at first.
+Hex Maniac yes!
same
This song made me change my mind about taking my own life and made me realize God works in mystery ways. I had my hydrocodone bottle in my hand about to dump it down my throat when this song came on Pandora on a secular station and lyrics cut thru to me like a warm knife thru butter. It made me realize no matter what obstacles we face, God has a plan for every single one of us.
This song hits different in quarantine
I didn't even know this was Christian, but as I was listening to it, I couldn't help but think about Jesus helping us escape from sin. Come to find out, that is what it's about.
I still listen to this song

Yeah, I'm Christian and I didn't even realize at first. I thought it was about a girl
Rachel Roeber oh man, me too.
Rachel Roeber i totally thought it was about a girlthis religion stuff was a complete surprise to me
Ah, finally, a video with good quality
I've been searching the interwebs for 10 minutes trying to find this song with good quality
People who are complaining about God comments: What did you expect listening to a Christian Band?
This is what I am wondering lol
wasnt aware they were a christian band, that's why, this was in a punk rock playlist, ain't punk
@@bomoore9872 exactly this shit don't belong here lmfao
Isn’t it both…?
Who complains about God? Miserable people thats who
I saw this band open for simple plan when I was 11/12 yrs old. I'm turning 29 in a couple weeks and I'll still always love this song especially 🤘
"But the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair" SO TRUE..
Got goosebumps from reading this!
this song.... all of relient k's songs just make you all floaty and u just listen and your heart explodes!!!!!
I really needed this song today. Like, badly. So glad it exists.
Best song ever!(:
the ending to this song is one of the best endings. ever written in any song. so true and powerful.
Am i the only one who thinks Jordan Sweeto would do a really good cover of this?
Oh shit he would
Jordan please cover this!!
Also I like your profile pic
SeikoSnow Thanks! I've commented on a few of his covers, asking him to sing this. No reply. ;_;
Lyrics RIP :_:
lol. I'm really happy he put out an EP and everything. It's awesome, too.
this will always be one of the best songs ever written (:
*Scrolls down and sees a bunch of people complaining about atheists but all I see is people complaining about people complaining*
???
This is the first lyric video that I ever favorited on UA-cam. Gave it five stars, too. And it's still a great song and video.
2:08 literally iconic
This song is amazing. I play it all the time. And to agree who cares what religion they are? If their good it doesn't matter. And these guys definitely are.
dang. the lyrics are so me right now. "I've been housing all this doubt and insecurity..."
We all struggle brothers.. just remember. To struggle is to live in this beautifully twisted world. One day we're all gonna make it brah 💕
13 yrs pass and I look through mi old UA-cam playlist and find this song and by the end I'm in tears for many reasons plus nostalgia.. old times
Back when this song came out, some of my friends were jamming to it and I was like, "Whoa, this song is way too hardcore for someone our age." Ah, the sheltered life, haha XD
Omg this song is literate perfection :3
The piano goes in hard in that first verse and I never noticed
Favorite song 3 heard this song when I was younger & finally old enough to apprieciate the lyrics. Can't stop listening to it
This song can be interpreted as a Christian song or in any way the listener wants to. I don't think it's a Christian song and I interpret it as more of a song of two people that like each other and one has made many mistakes and failed and has never been really stable or secure in life. I think the one is begging the other to save them, help them, and be their escape from the pain they've caused themselves.
***** It doesn't take too much. It just takes a brain.
Back when Lego Universe was still a thing, this song was my jam 24/7.
This song is so addictive. I really love this band too much. Can't believe I missed them at warped tour :(
I couldn't have sighed harder when I realized this was a Christian song...
I'm not saying it's a bad song, it's just not for me.
just enjoy the music you ignorant fuck
Ah, the most frequently misused word in the history of the English language. What exactly is it that I am ignorant of, my perturbed Christian friend?
Patrick Fulton Hey chill out people no need to be hostile
Way to love your neighbour as yourself Joshua. You're definitely demonstrating the love of Christ. Check yourself before you wreck yourself, and our faith along with that.
2015 and I'm just here
littl3willy 2017 (:
I remember listening to this song when I was in like 6th grade and I thought that I would practically die without him.
Now, I see him in the halls and I'm all like, "Eh, whatever."
Now, I feel like I can't live without this other guy. Listening to this song somehow reminds me that life goes on. :)
If you people dont like this song because its "RELIGIOUS" then DONT LISTEN TO IT.
Exactly people are so annoying trying to argue in the comments about religion I really hope poeple understand some day and stop trying to fight with God
You the real MVP
People will never understand - they just like to argue sometimes unconsciously
besides the song NEVER mentions God.
I luv luv luv luv luv this song!!!!! It's stuck in my headdddd!!!!
I actually didn't know this was a religious song! Haha I'm not religious and I don't care if you are. This is a good song
when he said "dadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadada" I really felt that
Christian or not, this song is amazing and I just can't believe there are people that says things like: "I'm atheist and didn't know this song was christian".
I love this song so much! It's so good it gives me goosebumps! I even tear up a bit to be honest.
I didn't know this was about Christianity until I read the comments, I should have known this. I'm an Atheist from a Christian family and I will take the secret to my grave.
i am a hostage, to my own humanityyy. love this partttt
