Riley is a reflection of Granddad. The only reason he has some refinement is because he grew up in a different era (no rap music). These two always disagree with Huey, and Huey is pretty much always right.

The really funny thing about the Friday scene is Granddad's voice actor really was in Friday. That's John Witherspoon. He was Ice Cube's dad in the movie. He was the one in the movie who convinced Ice Cube not to use the gun & fight old school with fists

The song that was playing when Riley got his chain is called "Shining" by Metaphor the Great. It may have been written specifically for the show. It has a Dipset vibe to it though.
Uncle Rukus is written to make white people uncomfortable as a sense of dark humor. As a black man he’s honestly hilarious because he’s a stereotype of a self hating black man.
Snoop Dogg(Macktastic) , Busta Rhymes(Flononinal-Bald One), and DeRay Davis (Leonard, the one who mentioned Wendys-with the braids)is Thugnificent’s Crew.. Thugnificent is Carl Jones he’s also in Black Dynamite the anime .
Wow! I can't believe I'm just now figuring out that Busta was Flononiminal. Are we to expect to see more of his crew? I hope so, cuz that shit was hilarious! Thanks for the comment and education Jay! -M@ =)
Here's a fun fact about Butch Magnus Milosevic: Butch's last name could be an indicator that Butch is Serbian. Butch Magnus Milosevic was voiced by Daryl Sabara(actor known for his role as Juni Cortez in Spy Kids franchise & husband of the singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor), but only in his first appearance. He doesn't speak in the next two episodes that he appears in. Butch's last name is a possible reference to Slobodan Milošević, a late President of Serbia who was accused of committing war crimes during the Yugoslav Wars. He's approximately 5ft 4in (1.62 m) and weighs 130 lbs (58.96 kg), according to Riley. He can be considered Lamilton Taeshawn's white counterpart. Also here's a cultural reference to the Boondocks episode Shinin': The opening scene in which Thugnificent describes his lavish lifestyle, and does a walkthrough of his house is a reference to MTV Cribs. When Thugnificent berates Macktastic about his "h***" being late, Mack replies that "Quinton just texted me. He say the H*** is en route" His response is a reference to The Pharcyde skit/song Quinton's on his Way on which The Pharcyde crew calls up Quinton, their w*** man. Butch Magnus' sneer is a similar, albeit exaggerated version, of the one typically shown by Sylvester Stallone. There are many allusions to Monty Python's "The Life of Brian" throughout the episode. When Thugnificent is asking Riley how good he thinks the song is, he says "you got to really think it sounds good" to which Riley responds, "I do." Thugnificent asks, "How good?" and Riley responds, "real good". This is much like the conversation Brian has when trying to join the People's Front of Judea. Later Thugnificent grant's Riley a chain and states "there isn't a single member of the Lethal Interjection crew that isn't ready to ...for his chain", though a voice from off screen quickly contradicts that statement. This closely parallels the scene in which Brian is inducted into the People's Front of Judea. You can also hear the infamous crying sound effect of Baby Kate Read from Arthur in this episode. When Riley asks Thugnificent to join the Lethal Interjection crew he says, "If this rap don't work we go and...", like 50 Cent does in his song "Your Life's On The Line" from his 1999 album, Power of the Dollar. Lethal Interjection is reminiscent of Ice Cube's fourth solo album, Lethal Injection. Granddad states that he fought a guy named Deebo, without a gun that he possessed, and Riley states that it was from the film "Friday." Granddad's voice actor, John Witherspoon, had played the father of Craig, the person who fought Deebo, in the movie "Friday." When Ed Wuncler III plans on t******ng the child he kidnapped, another reference is made to his spoofing of George W. Bush when he says "Don't swear to God! I talk to God all the time and he's the one who told me to t******e you lyin', stealin'!" Ed kidnapping and t******ng the wrong kid instead of Butch Magnus is likely yet another reference to the Iraq War in relation to the 9/11 attacks and the War On Terror, as well as referencing the Bush Administration's eagerness to t*****e accused terrorists in detention camps such as Guantanamo Bay.
Huey could have definitely beat Butch to get Riley’s chain back, but the reason he probably didn’t was so Riley could learn a lesson. All publicity is not good publicity, Riley definitely got the attention he wanted. Getting flashy so people could hate you will just get you the wrong attention. That kind of attention could get you killed, Although I did still feel bad for Riley though.☹️ The songs on the show I know there are a couple that are real like the season 1 Stinkmeaner dream that Huey had that was a real song. But the others as far as I know most songs are just for the show. Some of them I definitely wish was a full song, like the convenient store robbery which was a popular request lots of people wanted. But the creator said it was just made for the show.
What's up Saber Knight! coming through again with more knowledge and insight. Thanks for following us and helping us with the shows attention to detail etc... 😁
New subscriber here. The very first video of y'all did on episode 1 when granddad was dancing naked at the workout video. Your girl face turned so red😂😂😂😂
That Friday reference was hilarious because the voice actress for Huey and Riley, and the voice actor for Granddad was also in the original movie lol (Regina King voices Huey and Riley and John Witherspoon ((RIP)) voiced Granddad)
What I like about Riley, is that he’s just as woke as Huey is, but he doesn’t care. He enjoys the aesthetics of his culture, regardless of how destructive it is, in fact, part of him openly revels in it.
Riley is not woke. Riley is an example of a young black person who is obsessed with the glamour and hedonism of the black culture perpetuated in modern American media. The problem is, African-Americans have roots from all over. Africa is an extremely diverse continent with multiple cultures, languages, traditions and histories, and the majority of African-Americans do not exemplify the popular stereotypes that infest modern American media, even if some do profit off of them. African Americans are not a monolith, we are not all the same. In that respect, Riley is a caricature. It’s sad, because even if he does have better qualities such as loyalty, charisma, business savvy, logical reasoning, and artistic ability, he chooses to forgo using his talents for any real improvement, and instead behave in a way that would be expected of him by, or in a way that would curry the favor of, the people that he idolizes that unfortunately do embody these stereotypes. He has a lot of growing up to do, and we do catch tiny glimpses of his actual potential, which makes him an interesting character because we are left wondering what he could be if he’d allow himself to live outside of the confines of stereotypical “African American culture”.
