I am black and I love the dark humor of Uncle Ruckus. The things he says are so racist and outlandish but just so hilarious, funny how that works. It doesn’t affect me because I know it’s just an over exaggerated character with the aim of showing people how ridiculous they sound when they are being racist.😂

The boy who emerges victorious in this episode is based on a real kid. In the face of a losing score and injuries to key players, the team took a leap of faith by putting in a young boy with autism. Astonishingly, he clinched the win, exceeding everyone's expectations. Uncle Ruckus represents the portion of black people who have been brain washed into hating themself and the entire black race. also, Tom the neighbor is named Tom for being a so called "Uncle Tom." It refers to a Black person who is seen as subservient to or seeking approval from white people. while both are funny characters, they both represent a different portion of the black community who are not fully comfortable in their own skin caused by the oppression bestowed Apon the black people by white America. This show is legendary.

Uncle Ruckus is hilarious. Tbh most of us black people are probably pretty desensitized to his type of dark racial humor. And also it helps that the entire show is full of racial satire. With uncle ruckus it’s pretty easy to laugh at his jokes because of how excessively ironic they are. In the words of Grandpa “Ruckus you black as the ace of spades”. The fact that Ruckus doesn’t see the own irony in his racism is outrageously hilarious

  • @jopinscott1777

I'm a Black male, and I find Ruckus hilarious because he's clearly an absolute a-hole; if you're of the lighter nation and you're uncomfortable with him, you're on the side of right. His persona shouldn't (and hopefully wouldn't) be allowed or tolerated in real society (even if his ethnicity and viewpoint were reversed). While his self-hate is made for animation and over the top, sadly, there are those in existence (some even prominent) who actually feel the way he does, they just haven't taken it to that extreme. At least, not in public.

Here's a fun fact about this Boondocks episode Ballin':
    Trivia:
The commentator says that the late Kobe Bryant breaks his ankle, but the animation shows him breaking his tibia.
This is one of the two only episodes where a smile is seen on Huey's face, after watching his brother make a basket.
The first time the Mighty Deers' uniform are seen, it is misspelled "Mighty Dees".
Riley winning the 3-Point Shootout without removing his warm-up suit (or his Timbs) could be a reference to Larry Bird doing the same in the 1986 contest.
The intro shows the NBA on TNT crew, including longtime white host Ernie Johnson, speaking exclusively in AAVE and frequently using the n-word.
The autistic boy in the episode is based off of Jason McElwain, who is a high-functioning autistic American; he came to fame on national news in 2006 when he played for four minutes and nineteen seconds during a high school basketball game and scored twenty points.
Riley compares Billy to Book/movie character Forrest Gump, Likely Riley did not see the movie or pay attention to, as failed to take into account Gump despite questionable cognition excelled at virtually everything he set forth to doing. Running, Football, Armed service, heroism, shrimping, ping pong.
Billy is played in the movie version of his life by Haley Joel Osment.
When Riley finally makes a basket in a game, he does a small victory dance. This is believed to be a reference to NBA Superstar Legend Michael "Air" Jordan.
Uncle Ruckus cites Larry Bird and Dirk Nowitzki as two great white basketballers.
Billy Matthews is a young boy who has autism, but he is very good at basketball, and he easily beats Riley Freeman and the Timid Deer Ball-A-Holics in the climactic match. He only appears in "Ballin'".
Though he's not really an antagonist, he ironically stole Riley's dreams of basketball fame, and he even has a movie made about him starring Haley Joel Osment(ironically that Riley called Billy Forrest Gump, Haley plays the role of Forrest Gump Jr. in 1994 movie called Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks).

Uncle Ruckus is PURE satire, representing an extremely exaggerated type of archetype whose absurdity is so ridiculous, it's hilarious. I would waiver that the consensus in the Black community is that Uncle Ruckus is indeed funny, and should not be taken seriously due to the exaggerated nature of the character.

And with all the other characters. They’re all exaggerated tropes and stereotypes, but the ones that black people discuss and interact with within our community, and it’s also just based on reality and lived experience. For those who have wondered about the street name, Timid Deer Lane, it has to do with the city Woodcrest is based on, Columbia, MD. Columbia is a planned city which is divided up into different villages. Each villages streets have names that are derived from various poems and works of art. As a result, Columbia has a reputation for its weird street names across the DMV and Baltimore areas.
    Here are some examples:
    Liquid Laughter Lane
    Apple Blossom Ride
    Barley Corn Row
    Five Fingers Way
    Crazy Quilt Court
I'd like to think that Timid Deer Lane is a direct spoof of Sharp Antler, just Sharp Antler. No road, no court, no street or lane. Just Sharp Antler.

I think within black circles, we tend to say smth off-color or similar to one another to sort of "limit" the amount of hurt it has when someone legitimately would try to hurt us with this type of language, so ultimately I think it's funny and sorta helpful in a weird...messed up way LOL

Ruckus is so over the top that I just find him absolutely hilarious. I'm not bothered at all, because of the meaning behind his character. The main characters all represent a different part of black culture.
    Huey: The revolutionist.
    Riley: The wannabe gangsta.
Grandad: The older generation that focuses far too much on past accomplishments.
Uncle Ruckus and Tom DuBois: They both represent different versions of what some call, "Uncle Toms". One is a black man who just has overt hatred of black people, and the other is a black man who's outright lost his cultural identity.
This is another example of how deep/brilliant this show is.

As a black guy, I like ruckas. Although he is an asshole, there are a few times where he is absolutely correct and it sucks when i find myself agreeing with him. I didnt realize it until i joined the Marines and got out of the hood and got my horizons opened and i became more self aware and I realized i put myself in a box. I was unknowingly separating myself from society, acting like it was against me trying to fit a mold of what a "black person" should be, while also being surprised that very same society was rejecting me because of my actions. There is definitely alot of victim mentality and self defeat and idealizations of stupid bullshit that holds people back. Some black people are lazy and spend all day outside the corner store doing nothing and not progressing themselves any while blaming everyone else and saying they never had w chance. Notice that he semi respects black people who put the time and effort to get themselves together (he still ribs them for being black though which is funny) and be productive. Its different from how he treats thugnificent, who also has money at this point but is still black trash.

This is a top 10 episode for me. The dream at the beginning is just too funny with the Inside the NBA guys and players.
Ruckus is part of what makes this show gold. Dave Chappelle's great stand-up from the late 90s has a joke thag explains it. He basically said sometimes black people hear something so racist that you don't get mad you just say "wow, that was racist." That's basically Ruckus's entire purpose. One episodes in season 3 that is one of the few that have been banned is a bit uncomfortable but only because he is in rare form with a new character.

Before you get to episode 11, you have to know this. 2 episodes (episode 14 and 15) of season 2 were banned from airing. In the original ordering of the season, episode 14 was supposed to be the 4th episode and introduces a backstory to a character that is also featured in episode 11. So if you want to go through the original order (before the episodes got banned and shelved into last episodes), you should watch episode 14 before episode 11

    • @chubbychuckle
      @chubbychuckle Рік тому +1

They banned episodes 14 and 15? For what? Maybe don't answer so they don't get spoiled but I never heard of an issue with those two episodes. Now that I think more, I do remember this characters introduction seeming out of order and I couldn't understand why. That would make a lot of sense.
