She can ride those whistle notes like they were nothing. She burst into and took those notes from a restricted zone. That's illegal and she should have been arrested. Magnifico!
I saw her live with Rotary Connection, her band back in '72. She blew the tweeters out of the PA with her high notes and it was fuzzy the rest of the night. Maya was the name of her daughter - Maya Rudolph who went on to fame as a cast member of Saturday Night Live on TV.
I saw her last TV appearance. It was on The Merv Griffin Show. Her left arm so swollen from Chemo Treatments it looked three times larger than her right. She sang as well as she always did. Never faltered, or changed her voice. I have always have admired her for her strength, talent and grace. A truly beautiful human being.
LOVE MINNIE!! So sad she died so young. Back in da day there was only a few singers out there that had a 5 or 6+ Octave range... MINNIE, DENISE WILLIAMS, PATTI LABELLE, PHILIP BAILEY (Earth Wind & Fire), TEENA MARIE, DESIREE COLEMAN, MARIAH CAREY, then CHRISTINA AGUILERA.
Watching her last performance of this song before she passed truly showed her passion for performing. I can only imagine the pain she was in knowing how medical procedure have advanced since then. She performed so beautifully you would not have known she was going thru anything.
I love this song, she and her husband Richard wrote this song long before they recorded it. A small fact to share is that Stevie Wonder produced this song from her album, Perfect Angel. Her very 1st album was 'Come to my Garden' recorded in Chicago that no one heard but it's a gorgeous piece of work too...etheral~! PS>she was a 5 octave, Mariah also trained her voice to do that whistle because of listening to Minnie as a kid.
Minnie was one of the sirens Homer spoke of in the Odyssey! 😯 In the late 60's Minnie was with an interesting band, Rotary Connection. Check these songs of theirs: ua-cam.com/video/yPNmq-OuSpc/v-deo.html (Tales of Brave Ulysses) ---- ua-cam.com/video/ukh6cMbufFM/v-deo.html (Turn Me On)
Back in the 70s you had to be talented. No auto tune nothing fake just her pure voice.
