      Congratulations! Can I ask what pushed you into making that decision? I am also in a similar situation - currently on a 13" M1 Macbook Pro 16/512, and I'm thinking about going into the M3 series of chips - since I find myself a lot of times using all the RAM (sometimes the pressure is in the orange), and my storage is running out. I never had any of the Pro or Max line of chips, and I have no idea what to get in order to future proof myself (hoped not to buy a notebook in minimum 5 years when purchasing the M1 Macbook Pro). I am an iOS developer, Biomedical engineer - so Matlab and other good stuff, and I'm trying to get into photography/videography. Should I get the M3 Pro? Or the M3 Max? How much RAM? I have no idea, and like yes - these benchmarks show that these notebooks are absolute powerhouses, but at the same time do I need this? Is an M3 Max a total overkill or just enough? Ahhhh I hate this.

    • @harshpatel105
      @harshpatel105 10 місяців тому +1

      @@marekmadar3602 I was frequently running out of RAM as I am a backend engineer. I use docker containers, multiple VS Code and pycharm instances, tons of chrome tabs (50+), slack, postman, multiple terminals. 8 GB RAM wasn't cutting it in MacBook air.
      I don't need Max's 30/40 graphics cores, however I wanted to make sure I am getting one of the best machines out there. So I settled for full m3 pro (unbinned) as I can see using that for couple of years now.
      If base M chip isn't cutting it for you, get the Pro. You probably don't need Max chips.
      And 16/18 GB RAM is absolute bare minimum in 2024 for software engineers. Might as well spend some extra and get 24/32/36 RAM. Good luck!

    Really informative video! I have a 2019 16” MBP, 8C/16GB w/1TB and am looking to upgrade. Definitely want 16”, but am conflicted about the best configuration: M3 Pro 12CPU/18GPU/36GB w/2TB or jumping to the M3 Max with 14CPU/30GPU/36GB w/2TB. Neither are inexpensive, but want to make sure I really see the difference if I’m spending over $3000 on an upgrade. Thanks!

    Hey ASBYT, thanks for the Video! I have an iMac from 2013, and he works like a smoooooth glove. It is so good. But all the Programs are now wanna update (i have Catalina installed) and so i had to look around what it would replaced. I wanted to use the iMac as my monitor and bought a new M3 Pro. So the funny thing ist, you can use the iMac as an Monitor only with 2019 models....... and my iMac from 2013 runs better Adobe Programs than the M3. I spoke with APPLE over an hour about both issues and the resolution is now: i bring the M3 back and maybe buy a M2, because it doesn't have so much problems and bugs than the M3. It is really sad. He told me i have a powerhouse with the M3, but something is wrong and it is not good and that the Catalina is the best Update yet. And the new one has many problems. So i think it is too early to buy the M3. But the color is nice and the Sound is really awesome. But with this issues that is coming i can`t work.. and that ist not nice. Thanks and i wish you a good day! - Aphrokite

      no it's not. This thing is garbage if you want to use it as a professional working machine. Macbook Pros from 2016 and 2019 were all over »Monday Products« and not the quality you're used to from apple. I highly recommend picking at least an M1 chip. Astoundiny good video, only one thing I noticed - there was a serious issue with the 3D Mark test you ran. I think it was caused by running the app full screen - there’s been a weird bug where the benchmark works much better in windowed mode. Just leave it as it is when you open it and it works best that way as of now. Anyway my M2 Max 16”, 38 core gets 150.8 fps (25,120 score I think) in Wild Life Extreme Unlimited, and 120 fps in Wild Life Extreme (where it’s limited by the screen refresh rate) so I know something wasn’t quite right!

    The M1 Pro SSD being faster is likely due to it being a higher capacity model at 2TB. Historically with Apple, the higher capacities above base typically have the fastest speed. 1TB is base for the M3 Max so you would need a 2TB or higher drive to likely get an accurate assessment.

      Matlab might have problems with M-Chips from apple in general. You should research first if MATLAB can run on these chips natively. If MATLAB is your focus, it might be better to work with Intel chips (if it has to be an apple)
