- We tour the island of La Pirraya, a poor and underserved community off the coast of El Salvador. Seen as a former playground for the wealthy and corrupt, the island has a long history of exploitation, and is at the very beginning of its new era of peace and prosperity.
This is the story of two Bitcoiners who have arrived on the island to help collect and remove trash, and to raise awareness of other deep-rooted issues the community is facing. It is so nice to see a country moving in a forward momentum. The exact opposite of my own country here in Canada. Salvadorians are going from barely surviving to thriving.
I ditto. Torontonian here. Visited El Salvador 2x last year. I fell in love with the country. People are so kind and welcoming. I made so many friends in short period of time. I wanna live there if I have the means.
Another great episode guys!!! Please inform president Bukele about this situation in the Island so he can take action, help the community and solve the needs of these people. I know for sure he will help, there's no doubt. He just needs to be informed, but unfortunately no one speaks out. With your help you could be the key to reach out to the president. Thank you for sharing the reality of the other side of the country. I know there are plenty more communities in need of resources, but the government cannot fix it all at once, one at a time will be the only way. I’m here living in Canada and people are starting to notice El Salvador not only because of bitcoin but also because of Bukele.
How many people? When we left Canada last year everyone in our lives thought we were insane.

Thanks to Quentin , Sam, you both and others for making a difference in the lives of these people. I was born and raised in El Salvador, I grew up in a single parent, very poor, poliical corrupted and gang infested environment. But despite of it all, my momther and family share the e little we had with others who lived in worst conditions than we did. We used to hold small church services twice a week and on Sundays at our home. In addition to guiding the kids and the people in the right path our main intention was to feed and help them in an way we could. Thank you All for what you guys are doing for the Salvadoreans 🙂

Thank you for showing that El Salvador is still a mostly poor and under developed country. However, the tide has turned and there is great hope for the future and lots of opportunities for social and economic development.
We have another project coming up from El Playon, showing similar themes. You're right, it's important that El Salvador is seen for what it is: a country at the end of a long era of poverty and violence, and at the very beginning of a new era of prosperity and peace.

I am planning to visit El Salvador; however, I will like to learn about Bitcoin. If one bitcoin cost so much money, how much is 100 Dollars, or 10 cents in bitcoin. If 1 BTC = $30,000, for example, then $1000 = 0.03 BTC, $100 = 0.003 BTC, $10 = 0.0003 BTC, and so on.
One Bitcoin is divisible into 100 million smaller units called 'sats.' Continuing with our example, $1 = 3000 sats (0.00003 BTC), and $0.10 = 300 sats (0.000003 BTC).
One thing to understand is this: Bitcoin's value has not increased. The value of one Bitcoin remains one Bitcoin, and that has been true since it was invented in 2009. The price has gone up so much and so fast because the dollars which buy Bitcoin have decreased in value just as much and just as quickly. The rise of Bitcoin's price tells the story of a declining dollar.
Understanding this means understanding the advantage of converting dollars into Bitcoin: conserving your purchasing power into the future. Storing your wealth in dollars is like storing it in a melting ice cube: soon, and inevitably, your wealth melts away. Storing your wealth in Bitcoin is like locking it up in stone.
But what good is money that doesn't spend? Throughout much of the world, it's not possible to exchange Bitcoin for goods and services, or doing so is exceedingly difficult. In El Salvador that's not the case: you can operate your entire life, or your business, on Bitcoin. Bitcoin is still relatively new here, and so it's not yet accepted everywhere, but it is accepted enough as to enable you to be rid of fiat dollars altogether if you're determined to do so.
It is more complicated than this, but these are some ground-level concepts to get started with. La Pirraya was abandoned by previous governments, neglected for over 40 years. We can't expect any government to address every problem at once, but we can draw attention to the problems that need fixing. Good things are coming!
