Kairos Gate S Rank & Secret Boss

- I figure people are more interested in the Kairos Gate than the post-story sidequests from the dlc, so here it is! Quite happy with how it went considering I pretty much ran through it all in one go. I will most definitely come back to this after I finish the Aire of Hours on Ultimaniac to get a cleaner run and maybe try to go for 1st place somehow (will probably settle going back to 2nd, which this run was for at least a day.) I'll upload the second part of the dlc after this video goes up, just in case anyone wants to watch that, too, although it's mostly sidequests and not a lot of combat so not even I'm too excited about that one - meaning I might change my mind and just skip it.
I probably mention it in the video, but this was recorded on release day, meaning it had the same audio issues as the main story video. I did what I could to fix it, but it's still a bit scuffed and my mic will cut out and clip at times. I cannot apologize enough, and thank you again for your understanding. I am the worst content creator in the world, and should never quit my day job for this :B

What a poetic fight was the last battle. Good job man. I wished there could be an additional mode against only bosses such as boss rush mode. 1vs1 fights are so satisfying in FFXVI

Honestly with the new abilities and accessories we have, Zantetsukan spam isn’t really needed anymore
If I'm honest, seeing how almost every video out there used to be only diamond dust and dancing steel spam is what actually made me start this whole channel. I wanted more out of the game, and I also wanted people to see there was actually more to the combat than those "op" abilities, too. So, I guess I started this out of spite, but kept going because I ended up having a lot more fun without spamming ultimates and zantetsuken lol

Thanks! I do have plans of doing a sort of guide series for ultimaniac to share everything I've learned. I'll get to work on that once I'm done getting my s rank on the new stage (however long that might take, because it's kinda brutal.)

though dlc may be over, if there are updates, this would be a great place to put them. Extra floors leading to battles against a semi primed cid and dion, or even a reworked jill.

i already got rank is in all 20 circles, but i panicked with the secret boss and couldn't get that one, got a filthy 😭 still gonna go and try to get it done tomorrow.

Thanks! It's been such a ride. And it must've been so deflating not getting the S rank on the secret boss. That was the one thing I was worried about when I ran it myself.
And it's definitely not your imagination lol He has a much shorter delay when throwing out his named attacks. You really notice it on hammer & anvil and incineration. You could pretty much run away from those, but now he gets his attacks out way faster. Hellfire seems to pull even harder than normal, plus the added wykes and the blaster type volcanic laser thing. It's the one reason why I didn't mind it at all as the secret boss. It was the fight I wished we had back in phoenix gate ruins.
So Kairos Gate appears to have roguelite elements to it.

Dude. I need tips on getting S rank. Arcade is so dumb that you have to have abilities like willow o wisps or satellite, etc. No points for counter abilities, non ultimate abilities. It's weirdly distributed.
Also well fucking done on cleaning this. The S ranking top to bottom was VERY satisfying to see.
Mentioned it in another comment, but basically I got every boon that was technical or score related. None of the attack or damage enhancements either. Not using wykes is just default mode for me after running ultimaniac without it.
As for counters, there's a boon that increases the score for those, but I dunno if it's worth it. Rook's gambit is pretty much the best counter for score, but I dunno if that boon makes heatwave and raging fists more usable. I need to go back and test a lot of things.

I had to cheat unfortunately and use it. Only because I forgot how to perfectly fight everything because I haven't played a game for over a year.
I only played first DLC when that dropped and then this DLC.
And I unfortunately had to use diamond dust, Even though I dislike using any ultimate attacks. But diamond dust is free
And permafrost is not cheating, at least that's what you tell yourself 🤭😁😂🤣

Yet again just one build can really work if you want to be safe and get a S rank, there are like 40 abilities in the game but only 7-8 are actually worthy to make the score high, it’s kinda sad.
For ultimaniac, I'd agree with you. For the Kairos Gate, not so much considering there's a lot of boons that increase technical bonus and score by a whole lot. There's a guy by the name Swillo The Pandaking who also got all s ranks on day 1 and they used a completely different skill set than mine. I'm pretty sure there's still some abilities that are actual garbage for score (like flare breath,) and I still need to test other abilities, but those boons make most abilities viable.
But again, you're still correct if we're talking about ultimaniac. No boons there to make things usable.
@@eyrestahl Yeah I did see his videos, when I made the comment I was about to write that thankfully boons exist, as a matter of fact the hardest S is in the first circle as you don’t have access to many useful boons.
But I’m still salty because I convinced myself that they were gonna tweak the scoring more with this update, I guess they’re just gonna leave it as it is.
I got up to the Garuda fight and fumbled the s rank because I was too slow. My dame out put was bad. What do I do?
I’m following a tedious strategy to raise my technical score multiplier but it’s becoming tedious and getting me killed and I’m not fast enough. Anyone have any suggestions?

@eyrestahl A?! Man, how are you using Satellite so efficiently?! I thought I needed it at l1 or so, but I guess it really comes down to practice. Will keep it at the triangle and see just how much I can get out of satellite spam. Good to know that it's possible!
@@Dr_Donald_Duck oh, if it helps, you don't have to spam the magic button for satellite. You can press it once at any time and it'll do 10 shots automatically. You can give it a try to check the timings, but most of the times you can just tap the button while in the middle of another animation to get those shots in. Like, you use thunderstorm and while you're casting it just tap the magic button. But you'll still see me spam triangle even when satellite isn't up lol muscle memory and all that.

I did this yesterday. Best strategy is dodge like a mofo. Lol let ur powerful icon abilities build up and spam them. Then dodge a bunch, rinse and repeate
As a person who plays Games like this and DMC who wanted to S rank this and I personally gave up on S ranking it I salute you

And I absolutely get what you're saying. I was disappointed to see that the ability reworks amounted to basically damage buffs, which arguably makes some abilities even worse for arcade mode. While I have done some S ranks using something other than my usual build, over half the abilities in the game are straight up a bad idea to bring to ultimaniac. Now, I don't think being able to kill everything super fast should be the way to go, but I do believe every ability needs multiple battle techniques so they can all be used under any circumstances, as well as increasing the score value of all stars below green. The discrepancy is way too high, especially for those abilities like cross swell that only go up to cyan no matter what.
At this point I don't know if they're ever gonna make any more changes to arcade mode, but as it is now, it's a fun challenge that is severely limiting in what you should bring to the fight.

Yeah, first circle was kinda sketchy the first few tries, but as usual, nothing a good collateral ability or two can't deal with.

How you change weapon in that mode i wan change cant?
If you mean like the actual weapon for higher stats, you can't. It does the same thing that the chronolith trials do that equips you with a special weapon specific to the Kairos gate, as well as armor and no accessories.
If you need higher attack stats during the gate, there are attack and eikonic ability damage boosts in the enhancements menu between circles. I figure that'd make it harder to get S ranks but if you just wanna clear, go for those first.
I use difficulty final fantasy i cant change weapon in that kairos
Arete Gate > Appearance > Weapon
You can't change your equipment in Kairos, but you are still affected by any changes in appearance you have chosen for the main game.
This video makes me realize I'm really fucking bad at this game.
The mode is incredible but disappointing the secret boss I expected to be something else, even a Ramuh I would have taken lmaoo

I know this is a controversial game, and I know every single complaint everyone has ever had about it. I might agree or not on some of those complaints, but I do very much love and enjoy this game.
Maybe it's not a challenge to you, and that's great. But stating it as fact is pretty insulting to me, and to anyone who might've not spent as much time as I have to, as people say, get good at this game. It might not be the most popular opinion, but I have found a fun challenge in both ultimaniac and the Kairos gate, and I think the fact that I'm uploading videos about it, and people come in here and take the time to watch and then post their really nice comments, should be proof enough that this is not the place to vent any frustrations you have towards the game.
In any case, I'm not gonna remove your comment for conversation's sake, but I do hope that you and anyone who wants to use my channel to bash on the game don't think this is the place to do it, nor that I won't be doing something about it if you do. There's the subreddit if you need somewhere to rant freely.
Edit to clarify: I don't have a problem with people expressing their opinions about the game, such as being disappointed on who the secret boss is. I even said I was a bit disappointed myself during the video. Or about the scoring in arcade mode not being great, to name a couple of examples. I just don't appreciate the bashing for the sake of it.

Already S Ranking Kairos Gate is insane, I went in myself and completed it but unfortunately didn't S Rank the whole thing. Tell me your secrets🙏
At least for the gate, getting the boon duration and effect boosts, and then getting all the ones that increase score and technical bonus is what pretty much did it for me. I'll have to try with different abilities to see if that holds up, but that's what I feel is the reason why I was able to go through it in one try. I ignored anything that wasn't technical or score related.

I don't think so? 😅 There is something to be said about having skill, but knowledge of enemy attacks I think is more important . Also, the boons and enhancements have a whole lot more weight than using the "right build."
It's mostly patience and practice, though. Enough of those and anyone could get to the secret boss. I might make it seem easy, but I've had a lot of practice on Ultimaniac, and this was just FF mode difficulty. It is really a bit of a step down compared to what I'm used to.
I can't believe you don't really get anything for S rank everything and defeating the secret boss. NOT EVEN A TROPHY???? This is awful

Bro am I missing something when it comes to Barney, just bad at the game, what? S ranked 1-19 then A on 20. He didn’t clap my cheeks this time either. I constantly pressed the attack (no atk up bonuses), parried when possible, etc
The boon that gives a score % bonus during stagger makes it so eikonic punishments and lb combos give a lot more score than they already do. Ice age, upheaval and windup (which I didn't use) all get another score bonus from the charged abilities boon. And magic burst cooldown is probably the strongest one, since every time you do one you get 2 seconds of cooldown reduction and that means you can get two or three eikonic punishments from each of your abilities *in each stagger window, especially from mesmerize and ice age that have a very short cooldown.
That's all I can think of. Those three boons are probably the best ones for score.
Def had Magic burst and stagger score - i keep those active constantly. I don’t use ice age, upheaval or windup in any stage and only am getting trouble from Barney. Mesmerize and Abyssal Tear took their place. Might use windup- I think it gets rainbow stars after 5 uses. This is gonna be a whole Barney build it seems
Also they should have added the option to PRACTICE a floor you’ve already made it to in a real run. Like in DMC5 bloody palace. Same fucking combat director and that gets overlooked
