You could give it a try before getting a replacement I would take the adjuster bolt all the way out and make sure the bushing isn't too worn down and if things look ok then tighten it up and see if it helps.

I would check the inner tie rod (the one under the rubber boot) on the driver side, that could cause it to have play on only that side.
So I have excessive play in my steering rack and I was about to replace the whole rack. Should I try this adjustment first? I have a 2012 Subaru sti

Any sort of bearing grease works fine.
