The Biggest Cheating Scandal in Pro CS:GO History

- Опубліковано 6 жов 2020
- The Coach Spectator Bug is the biggest cheating scandal in the history of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and potentially all of ESports. It doesn't sound like much when you explain it, but watch this video to see how awful it truly is.
I would add a link to the spreadsheet but for some reason UA-cam isn't letting me save links to this description??? - Ігри

For people wondering how far this goes: they are individually checking every online game for the glitch. This is the result of 20% of all games. They believe that most of the cheating has already been caught.
But Mr. WarOwl, weren't the coaches removed from ongoing games a long time ago?
@@prajwalsaya8886 no. These 37 bans are from 1 week ago.
How will this affect the future, Mr WarOwl?

Or maybe these rules are only enforced on LAN. I dunno
Reminds me of that time S1mple stopped a match because he could see the crowd's screen in the reflection of the glass in front of him and didn't want to win with an unfair advantage. Say what you will about him being toxic, but he's at least honest.
Couldn't he have just, told no one and done nothing. Feels like more trouble than it was worth
Edit: Okay guys i get it, i was wrong. I didn't know that the advantage was that huge. In my head i thought it was some super small glass or smth, idk.
@@sunrayyourmom he could see everything the crowd was seeing. That's a huge advantage...
@@sunrayyourmom a few million dollars is mighty fine motivation/temptation to abandon your scruples and take every competitive advantage you can. Better to report it and completely remove the option before you start thinking about it too much, than to let it remain for yourself, your teammates, and your opponents to potentially abuse.
I kinda think that this might even be because of his ego (no front actually). He knows, that he's the mechanically best that cs:go has ever seen, and prolly wants to prove that to himself every game. He might have had somewhat of a big mental problem, if he abused that once, even if it was on accident.

Furia's coach, guerri, already made a video about the subject. In the video, he shows the demo in which he clearly is glitched, but at the same time we have the at the background the team comms, where we can hear he didn't call once. On top of it, he didn't move his glitched camera, explaining that he only connects to the server as a coach, but he stands behind his players with the headset the entire match, which we can see in every game of Furia with webcams and so on. Besides all of that, he still got banned. Kinda stupid imo, the same ban people are getting for using it explicitly, he got with all the proofs he had...

@Alppi Google "CS:GO Stream Sniping Scandal",
theScore esports channel covered it. The TL;DR is: there is evidence that stream sniping was common in online tournaments, but there won't be an in depth investigation due to lack of funds and valve being unwilling to risk damaging the E-sports scene by pursuing an investigation that could ban a bunch of the top teams/players. In the end Valve just put it under wraps and said that past offenses were forgiven, but they would be prosecuting anyone that was caught stream sniping from now on.

Hey WarOwl, just wanted to say that I appreciate your videos a lot. Got into CS because of you and I can understand why you've changed style during these years. I hope longevity for you and thanks for your videos!
@Agent 005 It's best not to take it too seriously and get wound up over it, but can still be fun in some games
@Agent 005 grind yourself out of non-prime (level 21) fast, and get a high trust factor. You'd get far less cheaters. Also you can try 3rd party anti-cheat matchmaking such as Faceit or ESEA.
@Agent 005 tbh you probably won't start in silver, when I first started i was completely atrocious, I had 0 map knowledge and horrible aim but still got Gold Nova 1 as my first rank. After that I deranked twice to silver elite (where I belonged lol) but it wasn't that hard getting out, just don't worry too much about losses, you can't win every match and that's not a bad thing, just try to learn from mistakes. I feel like the whole "hard stuck in silver" thing is extremely exaggerated, as long as you practice and play often you'll get out of silver. Just make sure you play your first competitive matches in prime tho, non prime is just horrible, nothing but spinners or people who think they're good but save every round so that they can buy an awp when the team is eco-ing and then die with no kills
@Agent 005 Personally, i never experienced it too bad. I got placed in gold nova 3 and stayed around there for a while, dropping to silver elite master once. Im in mg2 now after 1.5khrs and its fkin worth it. There is a reason why its one of the biggest games of all time, because no matter the controversy, the hate the toxicity, it will always be a good game
When you thought csgo pros had really good gamesense but just had a coach exploit
They still have really good gamesense.
@@dundundundsf8925 i would say normal for the fact they abused it ;)
@@OceanXJ it's been shown that a decent amount of cases the players were unaware of this bug going on and played like normal but yes decent game sense.
When you thought current pro's are clean but they all participated at it, 0 punishment, the show goes on in different ways, anything except honest and legit. Too much money involved and these young adults have an empty resume, future employees won't hire people with empty years on it, seems very lazy or addicted to something, like drugs, alcohol or videogames, so they have no choice if they don't want to end up living in the streets. CSGO/CS2 is also random based, only by watching the accuracy % alone, S-tier companies won't sponsor a team knowing the game is random and events would have a different top 20 each time, they want consistant presence for their image, they have to cheat. You'll see later, but I play since 1999, competitive between 2001-2007, I'm a boomer and it's not only me spotting it, it's every friend and old community players I've met again (since first lockdown we went online again and found eachother on steamfriends) on discord saying the same thing. You might be blind for it now, or maybe like many in a denial state, as you love watching and playing the game and would kill it for yourself if you believed it. Honestly it's great that you mentioned how poorly this situation is being handled.
In my opinion this was known among coaches, and while some of them were taking advantage of it others were just doing nothing, mostly considering that this had already been reported and nothing was done to fix it.
This is a huge screw up from Valve and even bigger from those who used it with second intentions. I just hope that nobody ends up caught in this whirlwind of bans without deserving it, and that those who do deserve it get out of the game forever. Child dreams, but all we gotta do now is wait and see.
I think nobody reported it again because they did not want this bug to be fixed. The whole scene lacks integrity. It's a joke by now.
players find in game glitches too, so why blame coaches if its available to use.. its trash people like gabe who doesn't do shit to fix anything, 128tic mm servers is also too much to ask and dude shows up at major looking like bum.. xD
bruh imagine being one of the legit honest coaches that reported this but knew the other teams coaches was using this to win the games your matched in. And it wasnt fixed for years. thats gotta be a real shitty call, do you hold onto your integrity knowing damn well your going to lose the match due to an exploit you refuse to use but the other team does. or do you use it as well for a more even playing ground? I honestly wouldnt fault honest coaches for using this when you know this wasnt addressed and probably wouldnt be addressed for a while. 3 WHOLE YEARS of this exisiting. So do you just take the loss or 3 straight years or do you even the playing field?
Its kinda sad though that nobody talked about this until now. Do the players even know about it? If so are they told to keep quiet about it? It's all a sketchy mess.
@@Jin-1337 pretty safe to say that the players know about this

Loved the intro 🤣
Totally didn't see that coming lol
Software developer here: Yes, all Defects have a severity value ranging from (at least in our environment): Critical (1) to Low (4), and defects are typically sorted in that order (of ascending severity values). Most of the times, the defects are assigned to a developer, that is the most familiar with the specific area (functionality). Which has a side effect, that if one particular area has more defects, than others - those few developers, that are the most familiar with it, are overloaded, and those defects need to be offloaded to other developers, that are not as busy, but may not be that familiar with the area defect was filed on (even taking into account, that such rescheduling, in our case, happens when we are near the release date, and might not happen for some time, for continuous release life-cycle applications, like most of the online-games, CS:GO included).
Which leads to the possible reasons for this defect not being fixed:
1) Developers don't choose the severity of the defect. Management does. So, if someone in the management decided, for whatever reason, that it's not an important problem to fix: it got lower severity.
2) Someone tried to look into the issue, but due to random component of it: couldn't reproduce it (especially, if someone, that is not that familiar with such a defect got it), and failed to try and look through the code, to deduce possible causes to the defect (since there are, nowadays, some types of problems, that are notorious at being hard to debug, or reproduce: multithreading related issues, for example). And it got closed as "Cannot reproduce".
To 1) that would be very un-valve-like. Their devs historically had a lot of creative freedom. And for 2) you can't just close a bug like that with cannot reproduce. Like you just can't, it was clear that it happens and is totally game breaking, like even Donal Trump wouldn't have closed that ticket.
@@chaosmagican I don't know about Valve's development culture, since I don't work for them (nor did I work for any game developer). My comment was based, on my current work experience.
But, **in general**, management change. With changing management, changes work procedures. All it might take, for one manager, responsible for scheduling reported new defects, to not see the connection between "Coaching mode sometimes spawns you in a random location", and "this can be exploited in tournaments", especially, if it wasn't outlined in the initial defect.
Granted, typically, scheduling meetings, are between several managers, but if it received low initial severity, it might not be looked at, too deeply, at those meetings, possibly, with comments such as: "Oh it's just spectating glitch - nothing game breaking".
Yes, I am, in these comments, playing the devil's advocate, with possible reasons, as to why it might not have been fixed for years. I might be wrong, but since I work in the industry, I have some ideas, that I wanted to share.
That brings me to your 2nd point - it assumes, that it was scheduled as a Critical level defect. But if it were true - it would've been looked at, first. Since it wasn't fixed for multiple years - logic commands, that the initial severity, was not above "medium". Since, at least in my team, anything above "high", at least warrants a discussion if we need to have this defect fixed for next release, and medium, and lower are mostly treated, as "nice-to-have" - if there's no time, or there are more pressing issues - reschedule them for later (or next release).
That means, that it might just well be closed as CNR, or if it were, still, reported as still reproducible - was rescheduled for investigation, after higher-priority defects were dealt with (whenever there was free time).
P.S. Since I don't live in US (or any English-speaking country, for that matter) - Donald Trump is not an authority figure to me :)
