Feeding Asian Koel (Cuckoo)

- On 16th May 2020, my brother rescued a female Asian koel bird (also cuckoo). She is a baby chick. She was not injured at that time, but we rescued her before any crows attack her.
We are feeding it papaya, mango, jamun, love apple, rice and some other fruits.
Sadly she has injured her right wing after she flew near the ceiling fan. Thank God she is safe and is recovering. We will release her once she is able to fly again.
So cute ❤
What are u feeding? Because one koel chick fell off the tree and is unable to walk or fly
I have a cuckoo baby...what should i feed him? Plzz answer
Please feed mangoes. They love mangoes. You can also feed papaya, jackfruit, washed rice, jamun, banana. I think they also eat those fruits from the banyan tree, wild almond (wild badam), berries from the fish tail palm, berries from the ashoka tree.

@@NatashaPereira1991 These birds literally kill other birds as babies and get food from another mother. It's crazy how they are protected.
@@SepiaChild That's not how it works, a bird doesn't go against its complete natural instinct to do something it's not designed to do. That's like saying one day a lion will turn vegan because change is constant.
Me bhi ek nest fallout nestling koyal ko lakar ghar me bada kya..wo 52days old ho geya tha...cerelac ka handfeeding deti thi me unko...but usko udhne ka bada man karta tha..ek din khirki se chala geya bahar...kya abhi wo wild me khud kha payega???
Hi
I got a female Asian koel today morning.
She has got injury n not able to stand on her feet.
I guess she is also not able to make any sound or hear any sound.
But otherwise it's a healthy bird with full fledged feathers and all.
Can you suggest me anything to improve at least her standing ability. 🙏
The crows might have attacked her. In such a case, a rich protein diet will give strength to the koel. Silkworms are rich in proteins, so I suggest that would be a good option to feed. But be careful, not all caterpillars out there are safe for the bird to eat especially those caterpillars with a hairy body or some bright colored body- they can be toxic! I would suggest you take it to a qualified vet specializing in bird treatment, they will give you a supplement to feed the bird.
@@NatashaPereira1991 thank you so much for your advice.
I am trying my best.
It's her fourth day with me and today she started moving her claws.
@@gurbalihaarsinghjaapkaur1120 That's good to hear then. Perhaps there is no need to take it to the vet, just feed it well with silkworms or non-toxic caterpillars (if available), mangoes, papaya, jamun, banyan tree fruits, banana, fig, ashoka tree berries & fish tail palm berries. You can release it once it is strong enough to fly on their own.
I really want to release her in the lap of nature but only after she gets recovery.
And I feed her fruits n soft chapati. Mam as I am completely vegetarian so find it difficult to feed her worms n all.
Today I started applying mustard oil mixed with turmeric.
Rest is in God's hands 🙏🙏
@@gurbalihaarsinghjaapkaur1120 Hope she recovers soon. But don't feed her chapati, birds cannot digest processed food. Feed her fruits and grains as they are naturally found in nature.

Do cuckoos make good pets, and recognise their owners??
What they like to eat?
Yes, they will never forget the person who rescued them and fed them regularly. If their favorite owner talks to them, they will respond to their favorite owner. I have a video on this and will post it on youtube. Koels have emotions and they definitely get depressed and exhibit behavioral changes when the rescuer is not around. Depressed means in the sense - if koels used to sing every morning, they will stop singing, they will eat less. They like to eat mango, ashoka berries, banyan tree berries, papaya, fishtail palm berries, banana, rice grains. And if silkworms are available in your area, please feed the koels silkworms so that they get enough proteins to fly well. Koels are omnivores as they eat anything palatable to their taste. I'm not sure if they eat earthworms.

Does they have a good relation with crows ?
I have rescued a black cuckoo and after he is fine i have leave him but there were many crows that why I am asking ?
@@rupapaul1378 Crows try to attack cuckoos, budgerigars etc. I had rescued a male cuckoo and I released him early morning to avoid the chances of crows attacking him. Even after releasing the cuckoo, there were still some crows cawing as they feel some birds are their enemies and not of their same species. It's not advisable to release the bird in presence of crows as crows can peck the bird and injure it. Nevertheless in nature, cuckoos are shy birds and perch on the branches hidden in the trees where crows are not close by to them.
@@NatashaPereira1991 thanks I was waiting for your reply and I have released that male cuckoo in the morning only though there were many crows but when the cuckoo flewed that time no crows have seen. Hope he is safe 😇
For sale????
Nope, it's illegal to do so but you can rescue them until they can be healthy enough to fly
