    Gonna repaste it for the first time since i bought it brand new in 2020, give it a brand new battery, and put an extra 256GB Sata SSD into it. This should give it enough of a refresh to last 4 years of university i pray. As it is, the battery is finished and when i run games as simple as half life 2, the computer becomes hotter than the surface of the sun, and i am almost out of storage. I promise however, that i will never buy another dell product ever again.

      I agree that this laptop really sucks with cooling only thing that solved it for me was using liquid metal instead of thermal paste. Also undervolting the cpu could help I have done it myself but the biggest impact on heat was the liquid metal.

      @@odynzeyez6259 it was a black friday discount :D by the way still running amazingly good, I made a special colling pad with a chinese power supply and some Omega 24 V 0.5 amp 24 i fans and installed bug mesh in between... runs soo cool. for gaming I lower the memory around 500 and the core speed goes up to stable 1.8 ghz. most games run better this way as the lower mem speed frees up power room for the gpu to go higher. and when not gaming?, it is mining eth with a porfit, and powering a 65 inch TV at the same time. dell makes good machines I must admit.
      Bottom line, make a cooling pad. if you want ideas I can send you my pad pics and specs for you to build it yourself :)
      By the way Im #1 in 3dmark with my processor/GPU last time I checked (i5 9300h with score of

I started playing a game and 10 minutes into it the computer shut off and haven't been able to start it ever since. Any suggestions on what to do? If it was a short wouldn't it not start up in the first place? Or if it overheated wouldn't it start up after the computer cooled off, or should be a blue screen saying it's overheating?

    For the people who want to squeeze the performance out of this laptop: you have to use liquid metal. No katter what u do you cant achieve gaming without throttling. This is the way for this laptop I tried to replace thermal paste 2 3 times in the same year but everytime I try to play a game temps are like 85 gpu 95 100 cpu. I have the 1660ti max q i7 9750h version of this laptop and only way I could achieve 4.0 ghz all day long was via using liquid metal. With the liquid metal no matter what I do it doesnt throttle even 0.1 ghz on cpu. So hope this helps for the people using this laptop. If anyone knows what size are the thermal pads ı would make this laptop a beast compared to first time I bought it.

    • @rickstechrepairs
      @rickstechrepairs  4 місяці тому

      liquid metal would go well, but on a portable device like a laptop getting constantly moved, im not sure how well that would go in the long run
      also regarding temps to point to this video

    • @erkanyldrm9290
      @erkanyldrm9290 4 місяці тому

      @@rickstechrepairs Of course I agree that temps are actually normal the problem is throttling. With liquid metal even if the 1660ti reaches 84 85 it never throttles or even the cpu reaches 98 99 peak temeperatures it never throttles thats the beauty. I have noticed considerable performance increase on cpu demanding games like ac origins and rdr 2 because finally I am able to make i7 9750h reach its max limits which is 4 ghz and most important thing is it is always constant. For the moving part I can say that the leaking problem mostly due to using too much of it but moving doestn really effect I guess because sone of the laptop already come with liwuid metal. It has been 1 year for me now using it and I have never changed it. Cooling performation is all the same with the first time applying it. Otherwise if your laptop is not throttling or its not stuttering while gaming it is all OK.

      Thermal paste cause immediate spike on thermals and it is never goes down and performance was too bad that I was regreting buying this pc but with the things I do it is on its max performance even better. Almıst resching 1660ti mobile performance while it is max q (20watt less power) .

The first time I tried to power it on I saw the charging port led blinking white, but only once it was too fast for me to see the pattern. Tried Taking out the Bios coin battery, disconnecting the main battery and holding power for a couple of minutes. I checked voltage from charger and from battery and both are good even plugged to laptop I do not see any voltage drops. Does any one has an advice of what I am doing wrong? now I ill just connect to the charger for a couple of hours that the battery was completely dead. Help! I am running out of ideas.

      Hi.
      I would do the following
      Disconnect battery
      Remove CMOS battery
      Remove ram
      Plug in power
      See if it will give a post error (which should relate back to no memory installed)
      If it does produce an error, then the board is actually "thinking"
      I would also go through all the connections on the board around the cooler + remove the cooler to see if excess thermal paste has gone on the capacitors or the board

      @@rickstechrepairs Hi Rick thank you for the replay!
      Nothing seemed to work, so in a last attempt I disconnect everything, even the connectors I didn't touched, clean the paste, give a good air blow to all components, and connect them again repaste, take out bios Battery, unplugged main battery, drain any static charge by holding power button, plugged batteries and it showed life signs!
      After a couple of power on attempts (blinking keyboard) it started normally, to be honest I do not know what was it or if I was doing the Static purge wrong. But hope this will be useful for other people.
      Now with this and a -140mv undervolt it rarely throttles and temps are around 80C at max load. (previously 100c even with undervolt) and without undervolt around 90C (good 10 degrees less) and clock speeds are more stable rarely doping from 3.98Hz, while before they where everywhere from 3.2 Hz to 4.0Hz.
