      Injection molds for transparent stuff are way more expensive. The mold cavity "wears out" sooner because the part can only be as smooth as the mold, and clear parts have to be significantly smoother than the dyed parts in order to be properly transparent and not just cloudy translucent.

      @@atrusofdni9581 those tube TVs were great. IMO it was a major downgrade when they started selling the LCD TVs. Even the RCA LCD TV's buttons would break after a short while and the cleartunes LCD tvs were even worse. In my state they don't allow remotes so you had to use the buttons on the TVs and they got used so much that they eventually broke on everyones LCD TV. I would love to see what is currently offered in terms of electronics for my states prisons, but unfortunately for the two vendors we were allowed to order from (JL Marcus and Union Supply) regular people can't access the catalogs, you need a current inmates DOC number to access them online, I tried my DOC number but it says I'm not currently locked up so I don't get access, lol.

    Have a clear mp3 player from inside that had a 2.5 inch color non touch screen. There was a kiosk that I would connect it to that would download a massive catalog of music I could then choose from for I think $1.75 each song. Granted, this is from 2009ish. And it was absolutely awesome. Even obscure bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and MBV could be bought. Changed my time inside tbh. Had gel tipped earbuds that came with it that lasted about six months with daily use. I still have it somewhere in my dad’s basement and I’m dying to find it. There was an option to pay a fee when you got released to have it “unlocked” so it could be used in the normal world but yea, not worth it. Also, not proud, just sharing a thing.

      rules vary from prison to prison. some only have them available in common areas where in theory anything dangerous would be stopped by onlooking guards. others might allow inmates to have them in more personal areas under supervision (someone checking in every few minutes). low security prisons might even allow inmates to have them whenever since no one in there is especially liable to do violence. and even then they are only gonna be issued to the most upstanding ones and can be confiscated at any time.
      also if you've ever owned any corded headphones, you know they fall apart all the time on their own. strangling someone isn't as easy as movies/games make it look, i don't know if most would be able to cause harm before they break.

    Not sure if this is the case anymore, but you used to be able to order all this stuff from a catalogue. And each piece came with their serial number. So they could keep track of how many pieces are out there and if they were in or outside of the prison system.

    the fact that they feel the need to make the most compact type of headphone see through to prevent stashing makes me not ever wanna underestimate a prisoner, like how they gonna stash anything in those buds

    • @johnnydjiurkopff

      Truth be told, you could still probably stash crap inside without being noticed. This is honestly just an excuse to cut costs on plastic dyes and give that 'security theater' effect.

    • @zephrizi9034
      @zephrizi9034 10 місяців тому +2

      The last pair had the same drivers as the ksc75's which is why they sounded the best, I modded my ksc75's with a removable mmcx cable just for nostalgia since I went through three or four sets of their earphones with these drivers in them in high school. I didn't know until now that they are still considered pretty decent these days especially for the price and have a small modding community for them.

  • @liamfoxy
    @liamfoxy Рік тому +1

    For anyone that wonders why something as small as earbuds needs to be transparent.. inmates are incredibly resourceful when it comes to hiding contraband. earbuds could easily hold several tabs of K2 or be used as a way to pass pills. Clean out the electronics and you got a nice little inconspicuous capsule to hide enough drugs to give the officers a bad night keeping you alive/ non rampaging.
    Edit: I am also assuming the wire needs to be clear so the officers can see if the cable inside has been removed. A long piece of wire has a lot of uses to an inmate. I'd have to ask my wife though, she's the officer, not me lol
