Wonderful man he was still miss him.I was in La- Conner Washington looking for his old wooden yacht.It was there but now gone at least from there.Iv'e hear it was made into a museum,my thought's were leave it alone the man enjoyed it the way it was and so should everyone else.He used to bring it up and anchor it around Texada Island and Stewart Island in Canada.He was givin his peace up here and not hounded for autographs.

An old Navy shipmate of mine is neighbor to one of Duke's grandchildren and said that he requested his grave have a plain marker. IMHO,The simplicity befits the man. A great admirer of Hispanic and Latino culture, ( All his wives were of Latin descent) Duke stated in an interview that he wanted the following on his marker: " Feo, Fuerte, y Formal" (He was ugly, strong and had dignity.) Instead the family used a quote from another interview: "Tomorrow is the most important thing in life, comes into us at midnight, very clean. When it arrives, it is perfect. It puts itself in our hands. It hopes we learned something from yesterday." What I find bitterly amusing is, if you google "John Wayne's epitaph" some of the sites will state that the quote is from an "unknown author", it seems that some just can't believe that a man of conservative political beliefs could have such a romantic and idealized view on life.
Brian Bois Gilbert - Well wrote. This is a very nice cemetery and it make perfect since to see that he is buried in Orange County. He was a big part of the area. Hopefully people see that the video is made with respect only to share the final resting place of a great man.
You're right, it's a fitting place for the Duke, the gnarled old tree you angle by is so cool. Wayne loved the sea and Newport Beach CA. His family is still very active in the community, my buddy sent photos of last years Veteran's Day, Patrick, Nathan and Aissa Wayne were all there, very personable and approachable, just attending to honor those who served. Seems a fairly dignified and restrained marker from the other side of the Atlantic. I am aware that US graveyards also have (like ones here in the UK) quite tight rules about what sort of markers and headstones may be used. This seems well made and sums up many facets of the man. John Wayne was very conservative politically but politics is not the only measure of a man, no doubt if Wayne was alive I'd argue back and forth with him politically if we met but men are more than a set of political opinions.
John Wayne is indeed buried at Pacific Heights' cemetry....but in an unmarked grave, to deter grave robbers' (yes, they do still exist). I watched a programme about the Great John Wayne's life, presented by his daughter, Marisa, at the end of it, she stood on a grassy part of the cemetry and said 'this part looks familiar, but i can't say for definete that my dad is buried right here, on this spot'. So....nice as it is, the most wonderful Jihn Wayne lies anonymously there.

Hard to believe such a broad life as his could be contained in a small plot of earth. With that name, the cemetery must be close to the sea, which Wane loved far more than the desert. He was raised not far from where I lived, in hot, dry Lancaster, CA. on the eastern end of the Mojave.

John Wayne converted to Roman Catholic before he died, so we can optimistically expect to see him in heaven with the Blessed Lord on whom we all must rely for our salvation. I wish someone would leave a nice Crucifix with the bronze grave marker as befits a good Catholic man. May God have Mercy on his soul.

John Wayne is buried in his true name that is not his real grave that's a dummy grave. His grave is about 3 or 4 Graves away.
Can someone in the states tell me why u don't have monuments that stand up.

Because his name was John Wayne when he died moron. He changed his name legally years before and that was who he lived as.
