James has got a lot of passion for film making, and has learned to work well with budget limitations. I would love to see what he could do with a Blockbuster budget.
ToasterRabbit I found my passion and wanted to make films after seeing this documentary. I know a lot of people cite the Martin Scorceses and Quentin Tarantinos of the world for inspiration (and they are for me in many ways), but James Rolfe was probably my biggest inspiration overall. He makes filmmaking look so cool and accessible to everyone, especially to those who want to tell a story and entertain people. I recently graduated from college and got a degree in this field. Thanks James!
I agree! I've always been interested in filmmaking and in films in general, but this video showed me that literally anyone can make a movie if they have enough creativity and motivation to do so, and that you don't need a big studio or expensive equipment to make a good movie. Thanks, James, for inspiring me to get up off my ass and make a movie.
Man... life as a 90s kid was no joke. We had to tweak and tinker with everything. Finding ways around basically everything was so rewarding. I miss it so much.
Me too. I'm inspired to become a filmmaker when I can do videos. I gave up GoAnimate this year and went on to do something else like drawing and make my own cartoon characters and using expressions for my own series. This is going to be more like Jesse Coronado.

I don’t think I can quite put into words the effect the James has had on me. My other heroes, like Mel Brooks, Weird Al, and Jim Henson are people I am inspired by and relate to, but James’ devotion to his craft and the passion to make what he wants with all he has is so important to me and my filmmaking ambitions. Anytime I have doubts about myself, I watch this video and see how far James can go with himself and a camera.
You should make another one like this for your 1000th video, CineMassacre 1000, where you go into detail your history with UA-cam and the AVGN, then Monster Madness and the AVGN Movie, I would love to know technical details of how you recorded the older AVGN videos and how you edited them, I love watching stuff like this! Keep up the great work! :D
I remember watching this 6 years ago, and now to have your movie being premiered in the same holywood theater that Star Wars was, is absolutely amazing, you finally met your dreams :')
Same here. I remember the day this video premiered on Cinemassacre. Can't believe it's already been 6 years since THIS documentary came out. Internet time DOES pass by fast.
Very inspirational documentary I’ve been watching you’re videos since 2011 and to this day I still watch every single one of your videos Thank you for making my childhood so awesome 👏🏻
Thanks James. I watched this video a couple years ago, and it really make me want to pursue filmmaking in some form or another. You are one of my inspirations when it comes to filmmaking, and am proud to call myself a fan of Cinemassacre and James Rolfe. Oh, and for those that don't know, you can watch some of James's old movies, including some of the ones that are featured in this video, on his website.
Holy shit, the Kung Fu Wereworlf fight scene is honestly one of the best fight scenes ever choreographed. Especially with no budget, those actors and James are seriously talented!
I know that this is video came out 4 years ago but I really have to thank you James, because I was so close to giving up on becoming an artist at art school. This video rekindled my passion and allowed me to push myself to become better at art. You showed something that is rarely seen - the process in which every artist must go through. I am genuinely thankful for literally saving my college career.
I actually went back and watched a lot of your older stuff because of this video. It looked like the movies my friends and I wish we could have made when we were young. I had no idea you were so dedicated; there's a reason you're the most popular internet gaming show.
I think he should direct a horror feature film because he's very good at directing in the horror genre and not to great in the comedy movies thus the Angry Video Game Nerd movie!!!
James I admire your passion, and since around 2008 you have inspired me with that go get it attitude! This documentary cemented that inspiration and from the depths of my soul I wanna say thank you.
This is, quite honestly, at least in my top 5 videos ever. Even though I never became a filmmaker myself, the inspiration I got from this video continues right to this day, more than a decade later. Also, makes me feel old since I can now say I watched something "a decade" ago.
You can actually see it on his website. I remember it watching it there about a few years back, cannot guarantee it's still there though. It IS a trippy film, though. Wondering if he was on drugs when filmed it or wrote it.

This remains the most inspiring video on the Internet. This has compelled me to an unprecedented level. 7 years later it is still as effective as ever.
Watching this gave me more understanding and respect for the AVGN Movie. It was cheesy on purpose because thats what you worked with fir so long so It was like your comfort zone. I think anyone criticizing the movie should watch this.
"The more recent you're born, the more luxury you have." Yes. But easier something is achieved, you value it less. So I guess it's a blessing and a curse?
I think James is Ed Wood reincarnated. He has all the heart and soul Ed would put in his movies. Much respect to James and Company for the time and effort he puts in to all his videos.
I still recommend this vid to people often, as it really touches me. It's a document that's already has historical worth, tales of a creative 80/90's kid, fiddling with primitive technology and realizing his dreams throughout it all.
This was like a trip down memory lane for me, I used to make films as a teen with my neighbours in exactly the same way, shooting video with a Walkman over the speaker, editing with 2 VCRs, then I bought a similar title maker keyboard too! When I turned 16 digital film arrived and at College I discovered Final Cut Pro and never looked back! I know make a good living in London, UK as a Media Production Manager and am finally producing my first Feature as I turn 30! Good Luck and keep believing!
You were so cute as a boy. Your determination when you were young to edit and continue making movies is really amazing, your past is really full of life. Who would expect your life will take a huge turn into games review instead of movies making, life is really unpredictable
I honestly don't know how many times a year I watch this, and 'How I got started - The Making of a NIGHT OF TOTAL TERROR', they are my go-to videos whenever I need a kick right in the inspiration.

I remember doing countless monthly comics while in elementary until the end of middle school and looking back on that, and how much technology has taken us away from process.I appreciate how you treat process, and use it. Thanks James for all your amazing work over the years.
James, your story is so inspiring. I've gathered up my friends and started making movies with them. Sure, they're crappy but it's okay to be creative, right? I know you rarely read and reply to comments. But don't skip this comment up. It's a message to you. Your one of my heroes and have inspired me to do so many new things.

This video is so incredibly inspiring to me. I'm a film major going into my senior year of college, but unfortunately I got into the live-action filmmaking game pretty late in life (freshman year of college). I wish I had all the years of experience and determination you had! Sometimes I feel guilty that I don't seem to have all that much to show for the career path I want to go down. Usually I use the excuse of "I don't have the people/resources" (which is true), but seeing you make films using yourself as an actor and going through that absolute hell of VHS "editing" (or lack there-of) makes me think, "I have no excuse! I can do anything I want!" I really want to thank you for putting together this video. I hope it gets me to making lots of videos for the rest of this summer.
I’m surprised this video only has 2.4 million views. I know that’s a lot compared to most channels, but this is easily one of my most rewatched videos James has ever made.
One could only wish to have at least 1/10 of the passion and dedication James has toward film making. It's fantastic hearing a kid who wanted to do film so bad he found way to make the impossible happen, all those editing processes are 100 times easier now yet some people still don't know and don't care to do things right. Huge respect.
I love it when people do stuff just because they like to or want to. Not in it for the money like these modern "content creators" just beautiful passion of filmmaking
I discovered AVGN and it's crass, offbeat sense of humor by freak accident in middle school. Had I not though, I doubt I'd get to know James' extensive work, grow my interest in film or even make the life choice of pursuing filmmaking as a career. Still got a way to go but I owe a lot of it to James. I always gotta check back in with this video as my knowledge and sensibilities gain experience. Truly an inspiration.
Damn, I wish I had friends like that. All of my friends just sit on their phones and read Instagram post. All I do is help them with their homework. I need new friends....
