I have a 14 month old Heeler, and while I've taught him a lot in the past year, he is always eager for more. I was at a loss as to how to put it all together and make it more interesting for both of us. I am so glad I found your channel because even though I won't compete, this information helps me create a guideline for what we can work towards. Thank you so much!!!!
please make more videos! I love them. We want to do Schutzhund training with our two dogs. We think it would be so much fun. I hope the dogs like it too. I would also love some videos about puppy training etc. ❤
Thank you for the way you explained Shutzhund, I would love to do that sport (though my true love would be French Ring lol but no one does that here and Schutzund is close enough). I have a 2 yr old rescue GSD/BM who has made amazing progress in obedience in the past 6months since I got her when she knew nothing, not even housebroken. She was in rescue for 6mos and the rescue owners felt she had been harshly dealt with as a pup where she only went to dog parks for exercise. So, that said, she is a shy dog and I can’t tell how much of that is genetic or learned behavior though it’s probably a combo. I believed I needed a very secure dog to do Shutzhund but as I listened to your explanation, what I am hearing is that it is a sport designed to bring out the best in your dog (may be regardless of behaviors like shyness?) That by doing the sport it elevates the communication, obedience and bond between dog and owner. Am I right in thinking that learning these skills could boost her confidence and improve her behaviors? Right now she growls and barks at anyone who comes in my house. I have to keep her on leash by my side at all times even when my daughter was here for a week! Since I’ve never had this behavior before in all my years with dogs I don’t really understand it but I’m willing to work to improve it and would love to participate in the sport even at its lowest level.
It is true that schutzhund dogs will lose to fight dogs, but a schutzhund will protect you. I would never take a hog dog out, but I would trust it more for protection.
My family had a boxer-lab hybrid who was just insanely smart. One day my little brother took off and left without telling anyone where he was going so we tried an experiment. "Willow, Where's Jeremy? Go find Jeremy" She sniffed around the living room carpet and headed for the front door which was open. We told her she could go and away she went and we hoped she would come back. Later on my brother came home with Willow asking who let the dog loose. No prior training whatsoever
It probably sounds dumb but Idk what book it is but if he's that good and people only do 3/4 of the book I'd imagine doing the book the best ever wrote and taught the best handlers I bet you do the full book the dog would be 1 in 1000 probably
@@htttpxxx I have a cane corso/husky mix that I want to get started with. He’s 2 and full of energy. He paces the house if we don’t let him out on a regular basis
