Check the songs Poetry and others by BDP from the album Criminal Minded. Scott Larock and KRS-ONE started BDP. Scott got killed after the Criminal Minded album.
Much respect, young brother. Some young heads only diss what came before. You respected the skills and lyricism despite the age of the recording. Salute to you!
Oh, by the way, @ShawnyTV, the picture you saw at the beginning was DJ Scott LaRock with his babies. He was killed shortly before this album came out. It was KRS ONE's tribute to his best friend/Producer/DJ. Those children were Scott's little ones.
Still one of my favorite tracks from BDP and KRS-ONE. This is my generation of hip hop I grew up listening to; it was all about the storytelling, the creative lyrics, and the message being told. Glad to see you're enjoying and appreciating the old school. Subscribed!💯
Just a little trivia: when KRS-One called of D-Nice, he is talking about the same DJ D-Nice who created and host Club Quarantine on Instagram during the height of COVID! You should check out his song Call Me D-Nice, it was a jam back in the day!
We had color in 88 young fella 😂😂😂 it’s just the way he made the video I was 12 when this came out right in the middle of th hip hop era it was a fun time and the music 🎶 speaks for itself keep grinding
Dance for Me has always been my favorite track of hers. The Sly and The Family Stone sample is sick. DJ Mark (The 45 King) did it right....and the video looked like a good time. Miss the late 80s-early 90s.
Check out “Self Destruction”…It was a collaboration of many popular Rap artist of that time period. "Self Destruction" is the only single by the Stop the Violence Movement formed by rapper KRS-One in 1988 in response to violence in the hip hop and African American communities. 👍🏽
THIS is the real hip hop that I grew up with. I feel bad for today's generation that they have mostly garbage current "artists" to grow up to! There's good shit out there, just have to seek it out.
Hey, man, great reaction. Btw, the music video was made in Black and White on purpose for poetic stylized expression. Trust me, back in 1988 EVERYTHING was in color...lol. But occasionally, just like today, a music video or a movie might be made in black and white by the director for artistic purposes for that particular song or movie.
88 wasn't black & white you funny man 🤣. That would be the 60's. Anyway, I was only 13 when this came out but I was a real music head early. Tough song til this day. Cool reaction, catch you on the next 1
It's crazy cause this beat *still* sound amazing to me. I wonder how y'all younger folk hear it? Does it sound dated to y'all? Does it sound as fire to y'all as it does to us older heads?
KRS hasn't gone anywhere! 3 months ago He dropped another. He's more relevant today. Check out. THE BEGINNING! If you thought this was good your gonna really appreciate him now
Thanks Young Brother...Appreciate you Recognize Mic🗣🎤 Skillz...Blast💣 Master KRS1 classic "My Philosophy " & even thought its 33yrs old.. His Barrs is talking about what goes on in the Phony Music Industry Now..
Bought the LP on vinyl in 1988 when it was released in the UK, as a 14 year old. We were well into the US Hip Hop/Rap, listening to Stu Allan’s Bus’ Diss radio show. He introduced us to BDP, Stetsasonic, King Tee, Steady B, EPMD, Masta Ace and many, many others. The sounds of New York, Philly & LA were getting played by the kids over this side of the pond. As a request, can I recommend ‘Bad Young Brother’ by Derek B, or ‘Pure Righteousness’ by Lakim Shabazz.
Hey, youngblood, check out Poetry and Ya Slippin'. The second one is almost like part 2 of the first one. The sample is almost the same except for the guitar. The guitar comes from the 1970s rock song Smoke on the Water. It's the intro lick before he starts rapping. As usual, it's FRESH!!!
The video is dope but they cut out a whole verse because the song is so long. You should check out the uncut version. This song had me and the homies in a chokehold back in 87 and 88. We used to rap this shit acapella walking down the street drunk off OE in Boston, where we were going to school. Still consider it to be one of the greatest songs ever written
I think it's funny how you said how Hip Hop has evolved. Being that I grew up in this time frame and comparing then until now, Hip Hop has DEVOLVED. There's little to no creativity in what has been done over the last decade or so. The beats have become WACK, the so-called rappers today are WACK. You said it yourself, you can actually understand what KRS is talking about. There's an actual message. There's no comparison from then to now. Today's crap gets little to no play in my Playlist because there's very little worth listening to. I'm so glad to have experienced the growth of Hip Hop, because I have seen what it has become and it's sad. There has been a resurgence of people that are trying to do real Hip Hop, including many of the older school artists that are still making music, keeping this art form alive.
bro said 88? I could tell it was old cause it was black and white the whole time lol.. We ain't that old younggin he did that for effect they definitely had color tv in 88 bro ctfu
Sorry I had to cover the video so it wouldn’t be blocked.

😂😂😂 88 !! That's OLD ! 😂 sitting here thinking how I graduated in 88 .
I'm 47 and this song will NEVER get old. This came out in 1988, my 8th grade year. Man, we had such a good time back then!
Good ol days in 8th for real back in the BX!!
💯
The 80s had the best lyricists!
Much respect, young brother. Some young heads only diss what came before. You respected the skills and lyricism despite the age of the recording. Salute to you!

Much respect to you for acknowledging the old school!

Sometimes having a black and white video just makes it more timeless.
The best song I ever heard lyrics crazy
I had this when it came out. Not sure how anyone can’t respect his mcing. He was born to spit.
One of my favorite songs of all time.. he called the state of hip-hop now back then
Just a little trivia: when KRS-One called of D-Nice, he is talking about the same DJ D-Nice who created and host Club Quarantine on Instagram during the height of COVID! You should check out his song Call Me D-Nice, it was a jam back in the day!
