This is such an even draft the time is now to rebuild. I am loving the club's approach going into this off season. I would love for the club to get more creative with draft selections and agree with you with some of the proposed trades. My take on it if we get creative Trade pick 2/3 & 23 and with GC for picks 6, 12 and 20. Trade Barass to Hawks for 9 & 28. Trade Williams to Dees for Future 2nd Trade Petrucelle for Future R2/R3 Trade Sheed for Future R2/R3 Offer up Future first and Future 2nd to Richmond for Bolton & Baker if we manage to get Future 2nd rounders for Sheed/Petrucelle or Williams. We then go to the draft with 6,9,12,20,28,58 and pick the best available kids. While also bringing in Bolton, Baker, Graham, English and Garcia. This would set us up big time for the now and the future and i dare say we are not finishing bottom 4 if we manage to achieve that
I really would love to see us be bold and aggressive this draft/trade period. I've evolved a bit, I was wedded to the idea that we needed to keep Barrass to have any hope going forward given McGovern is 32. But I'm feeling little more optimistic if we can get the right picks/deals done.
I Personally think Barrass will go, and most likely get a 1st and 2nd rounder for him, Honestly if a team is offering up an early pick for Waterman take it, this year has been huge for him, but he was once a whipping boy. We also have a young giant named Archer Reid who is getting some milage in his legs in the WAFL after a come back from knee injury, would be a good chance to get him in the team next season to develop. Since he came into the WAFL side he's been kicking goals each week. I like the idea of trading B.Williams. If we sign English, that gives us English, Barnett and Flynn as our rucks, with Archer Reid being the tallest guy on our list who can play forward / Ruck. I would also like to see Barnett play more, and him learning under English would be amazing. I'm one of those people, trade what you can, load up on picks and draft the best talent possible. Take a route that the Hawks did a couple of years ago, and well look at how they are going now. Also with the Eagles going to finish bottom 3 again, we would likely get a compo pick or tall if we applied for it, and use for players like North did, that could very well give us Baker and Garcia, without actually compromising our draft hand.
Denver Grainger barrass might also be gettable in the deal say him and the 1st pick this year and that's it or 1st and 2nd this year and maybe pick swap back each way later in future, if I were eagles I'd be into Denver regardless of vfl form he is a WA talent. I'd keep him at Hawks and out the deal if were up to me and give picks instead, but if he wanted to leave I think west coast would be stupid not to take chance in rebuild I mean look how Jack Scrimshaw ended up for Hawks after gold Coast giving him away for free basically.
i think we need to keep B Williams. the kid is bullet proof. and is versatile. if we don't trad the our first pick to GC i would like to get Sid draper, but the crows want him as well they might trade us pick 42 & 60 to move up 1 spot. that would leave us down one spot, fin O'Sullivan type will still be there on the board then. and we will have enough points for champion if he goes mid second round. the age bracket of baker is wrong for our development. for the next 2 years we have enough experienced players on the list. yeo, kelly, duggen, cole, English if we get him, Ryan, Allen and waterman will still be there in 2027. then Gibney, chesser, hough will be up to 70-100 games Hewitt, Reid, H Edwards, long, J Williams, maric our first round picks this year would be around the 50-70 game mark. its then we could bring in a 26-27 year old in for experience
I don't reckon GC would be keen in trading up the draft order. Last year they maximised their draft hand perfectly by trading down and they're in a prime spot to do that again. Especially when a team like Freo and Sydney could bundle picks up to move up the order for specific players they want. Where Barass could net WC 2 possible first rounders, I think the loss significantly outweighs the gains. Such a fine line with having the right balance of age and new recruits but much like your feelings on retaining Waterman, I feel like Barass is too valuable an asset to trade away for what WC will be restarting once a new coach enters the scene
well he was 3rd string at the giants, and he has been injury prone and he hasn't shown if he can be good enough yet. i wouldn't sit on our hands waiting another year to see if maybe he is good enough and let a proven ruckman slip away. if he had shown that he was good not even english good but just ok then there would be less need for english
Shae Bolton has told Richmond he wants to return home to WA. I would be giving Barrass pick 10 and 20 and Bailey Williams for Baker and Bolton. We would end up with English, Baker and Bolton. The reports are both want to go to West Coast rather than to Freo.
I’d keep Williams I like him as he tries his best every week and a great back up Ruckman to support English. He can pinch hit in the foward line also could be an asset possibly in defence to try and replace some of the aerial ability lost if we lose Barrass. (which I dont like the idea of him going)
I think one of the things bailey needs to work on is his kicking IQ.. so many times ive seen him just bomb it down the line straight to the oppo, with no eagle anywhere near where the ball lands..

Not a bad hypothetical, another one to consider could be if Adelaide suspect we have strong interest in Draper they may be inclined to offer their pick 4 and perhaps a 2nd round to move up the board and we can take Langford at 4. If Freo don't trade in Bolton we could potentially offer a future first for their 7 and 12 or 7 and 16 knowing they will want to make a play for Warner next year. I don't think the loss of Barrass is the biggest problem. I don't think it sets our rebuild back at all. Our issue is our inability to stop the ball getting into our defence. We will lose by more for sure. But we are going to be losing anyway. So develop our youth for the next 3 years and develop a game plan to help the defence. And that starts in the guts. If Reid goes then he goes and we get a kings ransom for him. But we shouldn't be developing a list to make one guy ( Reid) happy. TLDR; use picks from Barrass trade to get midfield that makes it easier for Edwards, bazzo jammo. And feed the forwards.

i love an all caps post. but i think you are over reacting a bit. if Edwards, bazzo and jammo haven't learned enough yet then they never will. we will also have cole and duggan down back for experience and gov for at least 1 more year. Gaff would be an un restricted free agent so we wont get anything for him. no one will pay him more then 400k a year. waterman i want to stay a forward that can kick 50 goals a year is very hard to find. if TB goes the games into chesser, ginbey, hough, reid, maric, edwards, williams X2 and long will not have been wasted they will still be here.

I don't think the loss of Barrass is the biggest problem. I don't think it sets our rebuild back at all. Our issue is our inability to stop the ball getting into our defence. We will lose by more for sure. But we are going to be losing anyway. So develop our youth for the next 3 years and develop a game plan to help the defence. And that starts in the guts.
If Reid goes then he goes and we get a kings ransom for him.
But we shouldn't be developing a list to make one guy ( Reid) happy.
TLDR;
use picks from Barrass trade to get midfield that makes it easier for Edwards, bazzo jammo. And feed the forwards.
@@joshhowie7657 bazzo and jammo i be surprised if there not delisted, your right, but reid is a guy you build a team around and i think we are being bit hasty with guys that make west coast so much better now and then you only need few young kid's like reid, hall, ginby, johnson, elisia and the next couple we get in this draft and all of a sudden your in the geelong model of not taking years to build, a start climbing back into top four but barrass and watermen are apart of that in my view and hawks also see that they need that to because you need a good full back and centre half back to win flag look at all the teams that climb back quick its because they got those two spots covered by dominating players they got Sicily then they get barrass they mids a good and there forward line is gun we could have that now to we just need little bit of time with guy that simpson wouldn't play, like edwards an williams and the young guy just mentioned and the next couple we really don't need that much more draft potential to start to climb back up again look at how reid took control of the game tonight it just shows ya he's going to be the next hodge or mitchell its already happing but if we keep losing and don't capitalise on the here and now its a waste and reid leaves and we are back rebuilding again rebuild rather a two year game become a four to six year episode like when we lost judd and cousin and it was a 6 to 7 year build to make any dent in finals just my thoughts
