As a guitar player who now plays bass in 2 bands I can wholeheartedly recommend the EQD Palisades. The bandwith knob on that thing is a godsend for bassplayers who don't want to lose any low end, hell, you can even boost it to have more low end than your clean tone.
Unit67 is great as a pre for going straight into a PA with bass: used mine like this quite a bit recently: such a great pedal for loads of things!! Plus Fulltone Fatboost for distortion, Orange Two-Stroke for switching to a low mid scooped tone and a Fulltone 2B with its limiter cranked for a sweet volume lift.
I bought a Sansamp back in 2015 and I'm pretty sure that it will stay with in my bass rig for a long time. I love it's tone but the best part of it is that all the sudden your gigging life simplifies. No matter what bass amp you find on the venue ,just plug the Sansamp and send the XLR signal FOH.
How did I miss this one ... Well truth be told I am in the process of building a mini board for my basses. Have to say the Plumes sounds outstanding as well as the Unit 67. I highly suggest anyone out there with a EQD Hoof or Cloven Hoof to try that out, I have the CH and it's a beast with a bass, thx again Andy !
my current favorite pedal which is monstrous for bass is the solidgoldfx lysis, tbh anything solidgoldfx makes is so good im a huge fan of theirs i have the beta dlx and lysis
Ahhh- bass stuff! As a now binge- bassist as a long time duffer, this is timely and fantastic stuff. Great bass playing. Back to the woodshed 😁 The C4 fuzzy synth was all Pink Floyd- without keyboards!
Who needs a bass when the C4 can turn your guitar into any bass imaginable... C4 replaced five other synth and bass pedals on my board...and goes way beyond with what it can do... SA has been nailing it lately...
Plumes sounds cool on bass but it cuts a lot of low end in real life. I love it for guitar but for bass it needs a downstream low end boost in order to be viable. Best way to use it is as a temporary boost before your main overdrive. It also works awesome after fuzz, especially after a B:Assmaster or Diabolik.
If you feel that way there certainly much better pedals out there for bass distortion. If I were going to buy a pedal for this purpose I recommend grabbing one that was designed with the bass in mind. While its true you can use guitar pedals with your bass it would make more sense to invest in a unit that is bass specific because the lower frequencies of bass guitars often take a hit with guitar distortion pedals. Companies like Ampeg and Darkglass will always have better options for bassists because they have been designing products specific to bass players and are the the top two companies that come to most bassists minds when the subject of distortion comes up. That being said I've plugged basses into dual chorus guitar combos and guitar tube combos as well as bass to a Boss Heavy Metal to a 400 watt peavey bass head that had to be made in the 80s. Most of there "experiments" sounded as bad as you would expect and I pissed off a couple of guys that never got over it. Turns out some of those guitar combos I plugged into were expensive and they were not comfortable with me plugging my bass into their $1000 + combos and trying to melt the tubes with my bass. That was in the 90s and those two guys still wont talk to me.
PG: We need separate players to demo basses and guitars and all their respective gear. Andy: hold my beer. Proceeds to play bass with the same invisible pick he plays the guitars with.
I'm a big fan of the Zvex Distortron and JHS Muffuletta. Both let all the low end through and in the case with the Muffuletta, adds some nice sub frequencies. I also use the EHX Memory Boy Delay. the blend and drive knobs really help to dial in the perfect delay for bass, plus with it being analog you can really get some wacky sounds.
Joyo’s Sweet Baby low gain overdrive, Boss Super Chorus, & Line 6 Verbzilla sound good on bass. You can find used ones in good shape for a decent price too.
Pretty cool demo...out of all of these pedals, I like the tech 21 para driver and the source audio c4 the most. on the subject of guitar pedals used on bass, I've always liked the danelectro chorus pedals on bass(particularly the fab chorus and the cool cat cc-1). they're affordable and they sound phenomenal. I also like the t.c electronics modulation pedals on bass too. I own the vortex flanger and the corona chorus and they sound awesome on bass.
love my EHX Hot Wax. it has a clean blend, but I think it sounds great even without using that. just leave the Hot Tubes side on with light gain as a preamp, then kick in the Crayon when I want a dirtier tone!
Quality as usual. It’s such a treat listening to a bass demo with smooth, clever, and catchy bass lines - as opposed to all these comedy-segue-esque slapping demos I’m hearing everywhere nowadays. Well done. Also, very cool pedals. Listening to that first setting on the C4 felt like drowning in a sea of liquified synthesizers - in a good way.
I don't like synthesizers but the c4 sounds GREAT. Also i have an original sansamp and i get frustrated because its so linier and only gives you one or two usable tones that parametric EQ really opens things up I might have to trade up to the Para driver! The compressor was great and compact but for the price I think I would rather have the Dark Glass. If the drybell was like 100 bucks cheaper I would be all over it. I'll have to watch the used market for a deal.
I wonder how the first and third neuro app preset for C4 is called. The middle one is the Bass & pad in E 3 by Quatschmacher. But what are the other two?
Really thinking about the Plumes for a while now, it sounds fantastic...but I actually like the overdrive in my Fender Downtown Express so I don´t really "need" the Plumes. The Athena and the Source Audio C4 though...hard to resist.
Don't know why you would change the Bass guitars. One needs to keep things consistent so that we can hear better the differences that the pedals bring, even though its easily seen, I think it would have been more consistent to keep the same Bass on all of the pedals.
I see your point but this isn't a shootout between 5 choruses. I think it's cool to see them with different dry bass tones. I would've done each pedal individually with both basses, but there's probably a reason I'm not doing reverb demos lol
Great info on those pedals you got some impressive sounds out of them I'm sure that last synth bass line will end up in some young garage bands regular lineup lol
Hey Andy! Check out the Moose Electronics Nomad. It's a bad ass bass fuzz that I really think you'll like. It's also preeeeettttyyy taystay on the guitar too xx
Only in dreams would I think I'd get some bass content from Andy, dreams do come true
Andy is a closet bass player, just because.
Only in dreams, haha nice one
Only in dreams can I afford all these :(
Seems it's easier to find him playing bass than playing with a pick
@@dornshammer spoken like a true bass player. 😉 We’ll each buy one a piece and then swap them off as needed. 🤙
The pedals are rad but damn that Ibanez Blazer made the demo much more interesting.

ONLY IN DREAMS. Nice choice!
those first 6 notes, sent me into ecstasy. ty so much for playing it, hands down my fave weezer song.
What song is it
@@jackalmighty6387 Only in Dreams. The final song on the blue album.
PLEASE tell me he plays the Reverend Wattplower.
YES!
Such a sexy f***king bass
Seriously, I'm a guitarrist and I'm deeply in love with that kickass bass...
@@thiagohermes4806 Saaame, though I wasn't in love with the sound. It could sound a lot deeper with the right pickup in it. Great treble bite though

Nice to hear one of my presets featured at 10.55! Thanks, Andy!
The C4 is best sounding synth bass pedal I have ever heard, I think I will buy me self one on my birthday.
👌💯
I am also a believer in vintage Ibanez basses. Sounds really good.
Holy shit. NIB was goddamn amazing! Well done Andy!

I thank god every day I stole that sansamp DI from my band room storage closet back in high school
Kinda shitty thing to do.. but I understand lol
Wtf? 😂 😂 😂
Five finger discount for the win
We all do dumb shit as kids. Sometimes it ends up working out tho

DOD FX72B Bass Stereo Flanger. It's the first pedal I ever bought new back in 1989 and it's been in use ever since.
"But first, here's my clean tone"
There's just something about Bass with Distortion... Right ?
If you feel that way there certainly much better pedals out there for bass distortion. im only a beginner but i really want the C4. holy smokes it sounds so awesome, like i wouldn't even know what to do with it.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on bass pedals. I enjoyed this video! That last setting you used on the C4 Synth was definitely my favourite!

Ok, but seriously, HOW does he do that?
Playing with fingernail
Andy rules.
That synth tone was sweet.
I love that Andy always throws-in some Black Sabbath. They had Monster Riffs-of-Doom, on Every Album.
I’m guessing that I should have held off getting the DOD Meatbox reissue and picked up a C4 instead. Thanks for a great bass demo.
The bass pad setting sounded like some Stereolab goodness!!!
I love that Source Audio C4! Need to start saving....
Buying an EQD Plumes right now. 🔥
I like Andy as Bassist too!
The sansamp para driver is a game changer. It's one of the pedals that's so great with a direct out. The sound guy can help a lot with the mix.
I’ve heard of the para driver but don’t really know what it is. What exactly does it do? Is it useful for guitarists too?
@@Supernautiloid it's great for recording if you need a cranked up tube amp without paying the tube amp price. It can be used for guitar.
Damn that synth is so awesome
I just got a Plumes for Christmas and it sounds better on bass than a bass version of the tube screamer.
awesome effects. awesome tone. awesome tone. 10/10

Zvex Distortron = Lemmy bloody resurrected in a handy box. All the best from Finland!
Very cool thanks, some great tones, especially love the tech 21
That wattplower though such a sick color!
Nice video.
I liked the Unit 67
I recommend empress parametric eq, empress compressor, strymon deco, flashback delay 2, audio source eq 2.
holy cow you have some great bass chops. fantastic demo.
Greenhouse effects No brainer is the best distortion I've heard on bass. The mid contour control on this effect makes it incredibly versatile
1:58 Ok, that's a sick bass. Let's just talk about that for a second. 10:17 That's funky as hell. Bootsy Collins would be proud
Joyo’s Sweet Baby low gain overdrive, Boss Super Chorus, & Line 6 Verbzilla sound good on bass. You can find used ones in good shape for a decent price too.
Greatest pedal that should be sold with every bass: Boss LS-2
At least with new bass players learning the ropes!
