@MrSylbester - Thanks for the comment. I did not pit them against each other. I found them on my patio laounge chair one morning when I went out to enjoy a cup of coffee. They caught my eye as they were sparring with each other for at least a half hour! They both came back time after time for more confrontation. I was just there witnessing the event and decided to film it. I was amazed that one didn't kill the other, which is what can usually happen if they are hungry. I love these guys too! Bob
Yep, and ur left ear got a break! My stereo mic shorted out on the camera. Have had three cameras since this video back in 2009, things are a lot better! lol.
it's good there is no bloodshed. Awesome that they just butt heads (or rather fangs) and it seemed as if the bigger one was shoving the smaller one off the chair. lol its funny
You are so right!! Most people fear what they don't understand. I'll always reminded myself to "take time to smell the roses", and watch a few spiders while you're at it! There's lots to see, enjoy, learn about and understand in this 'ol world we live in! Bob
I could hardly even imagine jumping spiders acting so aggressively before I saw this! I thought they were just cuddles and cuteness! They should greet and hug whenever they meet another of their kind. I'll have a talk with the ones in my house.
those little guys are easily the most incredible spiders ever! the way they move, with focus and hunt with so much accuracy. I used to catch bugs when I was a kid, an never was more interested in anything as much as jumping spiders. they do hunt eachother sometimes but most are too fast and usually run in time from the bigger ones. I had a tank with every type of bug I could find in my area, predators like other spiders and prey like flies of all types. In one month the only predator still alive were the jumpers. killed off all the other spider types. they are incredible little creatures.
Really cool. I learned about their curiosity & jumping abilities the 'interesting' way. I was filming one and it leapt directly at me. LOL. The chelicerae are so beautiful.
Sounds like you are describing a jumping spider. The horns you describe are really tufts of hair bristles that come together and look like horns or amusing spiked "hair dos!" LOL Bob
I found my first jumping spider in the garden. He was sitting on the top of a jar with water and a flower in it. He was so cute. It was this same spider as above but much smaller. He looked right at me with his green eyes.
Good question Nick! This is ONLY a guess on my part. The younger and smaller the spider would rather turn and flee then attempt a confrontation with a larger male. However, perhaps, just like the high-flowing testosterone in a two young male adolescent elephants, which leads to enjoying a good/fun sparring match, just for the fun and challenge of it, so maybe too the adolescent male Phidippus audax. Both mature spiders know the danger of a bite, so sparring takes on more of a fun challenge to both challengers. It can potentially get more heated (boys will be boys) and out of control. I have seen such friendly jousting matches end in a fatal bite where the aggression kept increasing until one crosses the line! They won't even drag the victim off after it dies...just walks away. Now in stalking prey, the front two legs are rarely elevated...as is seen in the "challenges." It will stalk with slow, stealthy movements...trying not to be noticed by the prey. Also, raised front legs is a defensive posture the spider takes when startled or for sparring. When the spider is content, it way wave one leg at you as well, in a ho-hum kind of jester Hope that helps!
Well, a lot depends on where you live. Many are found in the tropics, Mexica and also in the USA and Europe. They can be found on the sunny side of a wall, or on plant life. It takes some time to find them...they usually pop up when your least expect it! Bob
Jumpers are lit you can keep 2 males and put them in the same tank every 2 days and its entertaining to see the duels and with no harm to either spider best pets ever
@@BobTheSpiderHunter ok I will they are so awsome tho right I have 3 males and 2 females and one has eggs and the other one has a cool orange around its sides
Dude, we musta been separated at birth! I cannot believe I found this video while searching the web to see if anyone had posted a jumping spider tattoo! Am now a subscriber! I photograph them but have yet to purchase a camcorder for this (well, maybe not precisely) reason! Thanks!!
When I was small spider sparing was the game catching male to battle. I remember I caught a black , white and gold color one. The black one is the strongest though.
Hey Bob. I am extremely terrified of spiders. I'm normally scared of losing an arm or a leg. I hate spiders with a passion and I tend to flee from them. The jumping spiders are "cute" in a way. But I need to know. Should I be afraid of any jumping spiders bite? Which should be a huge scare to me? I live in Missouri and I've only seen one in my life. (scary as a kid >.
@truthspeakerism - Yes, what you say is true. I would add that they jump on cameras, not only because of a possible reflection, but just because it's there and close and something to explore if they don't feel threatened by it! And yes, they are opportunists and if hungry will take down one of it's own for a meal. Bob
@MegaGhit - Don't know, they have never bit me in all my years of handling them and filming them. A person is just too big to bite; they bite for food or when they are threatened or squeezed. When you hold a Phidippus audax, they just think you're something to walk on and explore! Bob
When i watched this and i tried to breed some of my jumping spider and they got in a fight, but i noticed that they're both cannibalism 😂 and also my spider who ate the male let go on the spider then she became calm, i think she learned her lesson
Great video Bob :*D Now after the little spider retreated - did you re-introduce them together again, or do they just repeatedly continue to pair up on their own? Awesome duel...!
Bob, when I was a pre-teen, I used to have the Spider Olympics and i had a Jumping Spider Female with a Black Head and Red Bottom with a black marking through Red portion. It would kill every other species I would throw at it, even a black widow. So by this video are you indicating when it comes to their own kind, there is no blood lust due to their recognitian and sense of 'family'?
@reptileboy10 - Good question, I don't really know without a photo of the spider. Maybe they are new hatchlings depending on where you may be located. Sorry not much help from me! Bob
Heya Bob -- we saw one of these guys at our softball game in Los Angeles today. I was so intrigued and charmed when, as you describe in your vids, this spider cocked its head up and looked at me, sitting on the bleachers beside him! I didn't notice the green fangy things, but the two green eyes jumped right out at me. Maybe it was a female? Anyway I looked 'em up and I read that they're poisonous, but you don't seem to mind handling them. What's the deal w/ that? Cheers dude Jay
Great video! The narration is informative and the spiders where amazing, its cool to see their behaviour this way. The only criticism I have is the "battle music", it lacked something and didn't fit well. Chainging it to something overblownly epic would be funny, something like this perhaps The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim - Combat #4

I heard that these guys can take on and kill just about any spider of their own size. They seem to be a very unique species of spider! They obviously recognize their own species. It's almost like they were playing. Like the bigger one was showing the smaller one how big he is gonna get, and the little one was so curious, and almost excited. But he never struck him... That's crazy! In the case where it was another species, I'm almost certain that there would have only been one knockout punch and that's it. And from what I have heard, the jumping spider would have most likely won!!! Go jumping spiders! If what I have heard is true, and they can kill invasive poisonous spiders, we should figure out a way to mass produce them, release them and cut down on the necrotic venomous spider bites in certain areas!
Josh thanks for you comment and I must say, interesting thinking concerning the "jumpers"; one of the species I really enjoy as you can sooooo interact with them! I have about six in captivity now and hope to breed a couple of them b/4 winter. Take care!
I did check out your channel on spider fighting. Are you from the Philippines? I do not bring spiders together to fight but was interested in the colorful male jumpers you filmed. The males seen in this clip were found walking around on a patio chair and I observed for some time knowing that they would eventually discover each other. I was there to witness the event.
@gurumaster06 - Hi and thanks for watching and leaving a comment! Almost all spiders, but one species, have venom, just different potencies. The venom glands lie close to the base of the fangs and they will inject their venom to disable the prey...it effects the nervous system, and yes can bring about some paralysis in smaller insects. Have a great day! Bob
One will jump at your camera seeing it's own reflection. not because it thinks you are "cool" or anything absurd like that. They-dueling males-will indeed eat one another if one doesn't escape. I have seen one male wildly pursue in the direction of a retreating jumper but the retreating jumper disappeared over the other side of the rock but in this case took a hard left after getting out of the other spiders' sight. it did however run all the way. No I do not have "fightling" spiders; at least if you are referring to the sport of jumping spiders used in fighting challenges, as seen in the Asian part of the world. Bob
Sorry,Bob. I guess I made a hasty judgement. I think, however, had it been me,knowing that they could possibly kill each other,I would have put some distance between them. A great deal of distance,in fact. Just so they would'nt.

The dueling banjos in the background just added more intensity to the video

Spiders are such amazing creatures... it's a shame so many people have a fear of them.
these are the only bug fights that are worth to watch
This gave me much needed laughter
Sweet, you gotta luv laughter...medicine for the soul!
This is absolutely the most brutal and intense fight in the history of planet Earth.
Wish all fights were like this one; both leaving unscathed and with no wounds...maybe just a little damaged ego if you're the smaller of the two!
As creepy as spiders are, that shit was funny!
I found my first jumping spider in the garden. He was sitting on the top of a jar with water and a flower in it. He was so cute. It was this same spider as above but much smaller. He looked right at me with his green eyes.

The little one just couldn't resist a good tussle even though it knew it was bound to lose out. Good practice for when he's bigger I guess.

I love these guys, and, I have raised and mated pairs. So, my question to you is:How could you pit one against the other of these marvelous creatures?
What sets apart a duel from a stalking prey situation?

hey Bob what would happen if maybe a few more jumping spiders joined in would they watch them fighting or run away... great vidio 5 stars
The Phidippus audax jumper has eight eyes. Four in front, two on the side and two in the back area of the head or carapace.
