"It's been 84 years"
Sattros I don’t get the joke
@@brettthebest3978 it's from the movie Titanic, when Old lady Rose is narrating her life in the cruise and remembers it well even after 84 years.
The meme refers to something that happen a long time ago or takes to much time, like a video of HB
Sattros oh I thought about that but I thought it was a reference of one of his older videos
The return of History Buffs, nice!
Thank you History Buffs. Very cool!
Ya know. He doesnt upload a lot, but he always uploads quality content. Dont apologize for slow uploads
quality not quantity 👍
Man, Gustafson came in swinging on the accuracy, didn’t he? I don’t think enough credit is given to how much the cast consistently manipulates their voice and tone for the characters. Standen sounds like such a soft spoken gentleman, and Gustaf’s voice is so much deeper than Floki’s...
I hope 1917 has been added to your list of future videos
That was a good movie
Holy shite, congratulations Nick, these were a joy to watch, you did well with the rapport and elicited both some fun history knowledge and your dialogue with the actor who plays Egcbert was excellent. 10/10 upload moar, goodly sir!
Ragnar was best
I met Alexander about 5 years ago when we were on the same flight from Copenhagen to Reykjavík. Really great, normal guy; he let me take a photo of us. Said he was sneaking off to hang out with friends in Iceland over the weekend while shooting a season of Vikings. Helped someone with their bags and sat in the back of the plane real "Floki" ;)
An interview where real questions are asked.. What is this?
Do a history buff on "Black Sails". PLEASE...
I never seen it, but I like the idea.
I was just going to suggest that as well, I am currently watching the show for a 3rd time.
Totally. Great show.
Best TV-show ever. Knew how and when to end.
yes please
It never stops surprising me how History Buffs manages to get interviews with major cast members, nice work guys.
The story arc with rollo and ragnar was simply one of the best. I myself am a younger brother of 2 and am, simply put, the one most likely to need a draft horse to ride into battle. It felt like tiny dominance stuff between me and my brother but writ large
This channel has consistently put out the highest quality content.
Wow. I cant explain how good this interview was to me and I thank you for all your dedication and commitment to your craft. It has made me a better person
Do “The King” and “Outlaw King” from Netflix
Just as an appetizer
"I've been told your god is a carpenter. And guess what? So am I!" *Screaming intensifies*
The man has returned! Fantastic interviews. I love Vikings and you’ve really done a great job of digging into depths of the show with your questions. Can’t wait to see the videos lined up for 2020. Hope Open Range is on the list!
please please please: a SHOGUN review with Richard Chamberlain. Would be great to see how accurate they took the history, costumes and so on! love your channel, thank you so much!
I love that series. I hope he tackles it as well.
Yes indeed, that was an amazing miniseries. Nick Hodges, Richard Chamberlain and John Rhys-Davies chatting would be a great video for sure.
History buffs, THE IRISHMAN PLEASE !!
YOS
YES. Apparently, the "wrong" dates and information narrated by Frank was intentional by Scorcese to hint at his unreliable narration.
That movie was long but worth it
Yes plseae
And American Gangster as well.
Everytime you release a video, it's like Xmas, because I've been waiting and I get so much joy from seeing y'all's stuff.
Thanks for keeping us up to date on a certain title. Not like other UA-camrs. Appreciate all your work bro.
HONESTLY THE BEST INTERVIEWS WITH A CAST OF A SERIES I'VE HEARD!!! Well done Mate
Hey man. You should see and talk about Last Kingdom. Very good series so far, based on The Saxon Stories, from Bernard Cornwell, You should know about it. Would be nice. And welcome back
I was surprised by how well done the Last Kingdom was made. Despite the political correctness flaws, which everything seems to have these days, the show got right as much as it got wrong. Not bad for Hollywood. Always annoys me when shows and movies depict battles as a free for all melee.
I second that
I Agree !!
Agreed
👍🏼
Thank you kindly for doing your best to appease the anxious masses who desperately await every video you upload on this channel! It just goes to show how much your work is sincerely valued! Just a little something each month is better than nothing!
Well done Nick these interviews are really good, thoroughly enjoyed this. Would be interested to see a video just on your thoughts about season 4 and beyond, exploring it from a story standpoint as well as historical.
Fantastic piece of work here. I especially enjoyed the section with the actor that plays Rollo.
Dude your channel is awesome. Love to get to know more of movies and history at the same time
I was waiting for this video. Thank you so much.❤
And every video.
Some of the best memories of this series.
Take your time Nick, you do great, great work. Love your videos man.
That was absolutely awesome man! Thanks, big time!
Congrats on 1 MILLION subs, dude!
This is such a brilliant video, I adore vikings and I have adored your work. I look forward to every history buffs video. Is ther any way I can support you further? If not just know that we adore your work. X
This channel keeps getting better
Oh fuck yeah bud, You never disappoint with these videos.
You combined two of my favorite things: history and movies.
That scene at 16:03 is my one of my favorites of the series, and really anything with Ecbert in it is pure gold :)
Oh yeah, that one and the final conversation between Ragnar and Ecgbert in season 4 is just fantastic. I was just completely glued to the screen.
Bless your videos so much
Currently midway through Season 5 and I gotta say, King Ecbert is definitely the best, most fascinating character in Vikings.
I got goosebumps from Ragnars speech at the end. Guess I have to rewatch all the episodes before season 6 continues...
the series is still going?
@@ethanstang9941 Yes, the first 10 episodes from season 6 are out, but there is still 10 more to go. But after that it's over afaik
The legends says that the History Buffs its still alive
Now, this is how you interview, not interrupting, knowing the story and plot and making good fucking questions
This was lovely
You think you could review “Unknown Soldiers”? It’s about a Finnish machine gun squad in WW2, it’s interesting because it follows them when Finland was allied with Germany fighting the Soviets.
Please Please whenever possible do 1917. I absolutely loved the film
He'll never do 1917 lol
@@donovanchilton5817 why not
shitty story line is just vehicle for cool cinematography
@@landlash How is it a shitty storyline?
Good stuff. You should do a part two of the Vikings review once the series has concluded later this spring.
Man, we need more content from you!~
I love Vikings!!! Please more!
I'm glad I caught this
I wish Vikings was more historically accurate. I felt like a was watching a soap opera after season 4. I also hate how they went completely fantasy in this season by having the Rus invade Scandinavia. They should have done Cnut the Great’s invasion instead because it actually happened.
I also hate the time warping they chose to do. They made Rollo Ragnar’s brother even though they lived 100 years apart from each other. They also made Ragnar a farmer for some reason even though he was the son of a king and he inherited the kingdom. Next thing we know Ubba is going to 1v1 Ivar at the Battle of Hastings after William the Conquerer fights out of poverty in Normandy.
Had they kept a more accurate timeline, after season 4 we would be getting Rollo in Normandy instead of the soap opera. It would have been so much better.
Eduardo Ribeiro I agree. I would of loved to see other Viking conquest included as well like the raids in Byzantium or the settlement of Greenland.
I actually didnt even know that about ragnar
Bugzy Hardrada I don’t think the region it comes from has anything to do with it. I am American yet I live English and Spanish history and would do anything to write and direct a historically accurate show about both of them. It really comes down to what your goal for the film is. Obviously (even though it is on HISTORY CHANNEL), it only cares to portray a fantasy setting based around real people and real places. But I do see where you’re coming from though. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle (which is our main source for knowing about the Vikings) is an extremely biased piece of work that portrays the Viking raiders as heartless savages.
Matthew Griffiths You aren’t alone. A lot of people do not know the real Ragnar Lodbrok because of this show’s level of mainstream. That is why I wish History Channel wouldn’t have approved this show and instead let AMC or some other channel run it.
It is quite fascinating to learn a lot about vikings and how they do their way of living
This was awesome
Please you have to do The Irishman next! It is such an interesting point in time and it would be wonderful to hear what exactly happened, who did what and how.
Please review Glory from 1989
Nick is there any plan to review the 1963 Cleopatra? 4 hours long and will provide lots of content. Or is that getting a skip because despite being a better representation of that period, it's redundant to season two of Rome?
Erik Van der Zee nice profile pic
FRESH
This natural style of interviewing without a camera is clearly so much better.
You should definitely do a history buffs paths of glory next, one of the best ww1 films hands down.
psl do a second history review video for vikings once the series is finished
I don't watch TV at all so when I learned of Vikings here I thought I'd give it a try.
Damn good series!
Also, have you done anything on Cromwell?
Hey love your Channel and I learn a lot from you so yeah
Probably the best video on the channel so far. Damn so interesting. Rip the series. Sad to see what it became with season 5. Guess that’s what happens when all the major players die and you’re left with a few “oldies” here and there and a bunch of uncharacterised “new” ones
I've longed for you, always longing
Thank you!
I'm here before this video can even be considered history.
Hey Nick, I really enjoy your videos I would like to suggest you review the TV series “The Pacific” some time in the future.
Hey there Nick, for starters let me say I absolutely love your videos, as I learn a great deal watching them about history and film-making, wich is saying something.
On another topic, and as a French, I would love to see you have a go with the french TV movies "Napoleon" wich I'm sure you've heard of based on the footage seen in your Waterloo video, because I can't help but think it's a little biased since it was a french production.
I know it would require a lot of work since it's 4 movies of more than 90 minutes each, but I think it would also be interesting as it covers almost all of Napoleon's journey and is not centered solely on his military achievements.
Hope you'll see this and deliver, wether it be this year or in 10.
Keep up the good work and have my thumb up.
Great work, big fan of the channel. Can you please do Mindhunter tv series next please.
Plz do gangs of new York history buff
Vikings: one of the best TV epics ever!
up until season 4....yes it is...
Do Lonesome Dove , its one of my all time favorite movie/mini series.
Would love for you to do a review on the Sharpe series in the future.
Yes!
Please do Glory or The Iron Lady for review after Elizabeth II!
I see History Buffs, I hit the like button!
welcome back! Any chance we can get a review of "And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself?"
Pretty funny hearing Rollo's actor talking about how he's honorable and doesn't backstab since "he was raised like that" but him joining the French was like the 2nd or 3rd time he betrayed Ragnar lol.
Hope you're well, Nick!
Seriously: you sure know how to keep your fans in suspense. After viciously destroying Elizabeth, and teasing how The Golden Age is even far more historically inaccurate, you keep us waiting for months on end. Bring it on already!
On topic: I have to say Vikings has become too much of a soap opera during the past two seasons. I've hung on until a couple of weeks ago, but what's going on with the characters that are left, and especially the new ones, really doesn't interest me anymore.
He can do what ever he wants its his channel
I left after season 4. It just didn't feel the same after Ragnar
@@taylorveldhuis8269 Juvenile.
@@donovanchilton5817 do you mean me?
@@taylorveldhuis8269 Ignoring how no one said otherwise, we're likewise free to bitch about his decisions.
Love your content nick!! I’m begging you please do a review on Gallipoli (1981)!! I believe you would enjoy it.
Ecbert was the best part of Vikings thanks for coming to my ted talk
my dream is for you to do a review about Michael the Brave or Vlad the Impaler, I would literally scream out of joy!
Boneguard
Dracula Untold!
You should do a video on “The King”
I'd love if you did a video on Norsemen.
I'm on the edge of my seat for Elizabeth the Golden Age, but this is a nice way to wait.
This has me wondering if you've seen Vinland Saga, and if you'd maybe do a quick video about it
Hacksaw Ridge plz!
I live near Kattegat. We call this place Ireland. Thanks for visiting.
Eskify Upload!!!! Fuck Yeah. Now I know how I'm spending my morning.
Fun fact: those mounds showed in the video from Uppsala was man made Burial Mounds, that dates back to the Vendel Period (roughly 500-800A.D.) the three seen in the picture are known as the "kings mounds" and are the largest 3 mounds of the area. (There are well over 2000 graves and other smaller burial mounds in that area as well.) The namesake of the mounds being the argument that three kings of the then "Svea" Kingdom, Adils, Aun, and Egil, was buried in them.
excavations of 2 out of the 3 Kings mounds was done during the 1800's where the finds from them dated to somewhere between 550-625.
Uppsala is a beautiful city, not only one of the Oldest, but also one of the most historically important cities in Sweden.. I would definitely recommend you go visit if you ever have the opportunity.
What happened to Midway? I thought the first review of it would be yours. How about contrasting it against the 1976 version like you did with "Pearl Harbor" and "Tora Tora Tora"?
My ancestor was William the conqueror! It's cool to know I'm related to Rollo
Hey dude what do you think of MIDWAY
Great work as always! Have you ever considered doing a video about the war on terror? Generation kill work be a good idea.
Have you seen *Sharpe* with Sean Bean.
No, but my UA-cam recommendations are telling me to watch it
Fun drinking game, binge all the Sharpe tv movies and take a shot every time he says "bastard"
@@MaidenUK Haha! You've just reminded me of the dual in Sharpe's Honour-
"Ya fat bastard. They won't find a coffin big enough tae fit ya."
Probably my favourite line from the whole series.
Sharpe does have it's moments if one suspends disbelief. It's one of those series I wish had been made now with modern CG to make the battles more epic but no-one could play Sharpe or Harper better than Sean Bean and Daragh O'Malley.
@@kaiserjoe2316 damn right about the actors, a rare case of perfectly fitting my mental image of the characters from the books. My fear would be that the CG lessens the realism and they start putting firey explosions everywhere. I like how a lot of the rifle shots and explosions in sharpe are small pockets of dirt getting kicked up.
They should have ended the show when they avanged Ragnar's death.
Please do the Lask Kingdom!
Could you do a video on Black Hawk Down?
Good call.
Please do an episode on the 1953 film seminole. I believe you will find it an interesting look at one of the most unique conflicts in history.
Please, once the show is finished do another Vikings video covering Seasons 4-6
Check out Danger Close: The Battle Of Long Tan. One of the most historically accurate movies I ever saw.
You should do something with the last kingdom
I just finished watching Hell On Wheels, it's about the building of the transcontinental railroad, it's a great show and I would be interested to see how much you could find to be accurate, if it is at all...
Theres better documentaries about the joining of east and west railroads in that era. Better than hell on wheels imo.
@@dwoolaver1549 Better documentaries, sure, but damn if it wasn't a good show
Yeah I said it wrong, it's a show that takes place along the railroad during its construction, not really about it being built and it's not a documentary at all
