"The Downfall of Vikings" but is really just a summary of the show with small comments. Not really pointing to the actual problems, just kinda laying everything out.
Before starting this video, I'm gonna say that I was already getting tired of the show; but that scene where Floki suffers an ego death in the volcano and then gets buried in a cave-in immediately after was the last straw. Vikings didn't jump the shark, it pole vaulted it. But later on, I look up the end of the series out of curiosity and find that mfer SURVIVED?! How in the hell
Ivar ruined the show for me. I couldn't finish season 6 I got through maybe 4 episodes. Excellent actor but terrible character. He was always upset at this or that. My Vikings ends with Bjorn winning. I tried watching Valhalla and couldn't do it.
Ivar has a huge arch. He's definitley meant to be disturbing and obnoxious. But it makes his painstaking growth and ego checks much more rewarding later on.
Ivar had huge potential. They built him up amazingly in season 4 and the first half of season 5, angry, smart and reckless only to make him a jerk and a wannabe-God who ruled like shit. I absolutely rooted for him and I’m pretty sure everyone did, he was the character carrying the show after Ragnar and they made us hate him because he becomes a shit. That was such poor writing
Also I hated how after S5 they made him escape, that was a great chance to have him unleash his hate, wrath and revenge on the brothers who had stolen his throne, all that to have him slide back like a coward using a stranger Christian king’s numerous army to win instead of orchestrating something on his own. They had him look so smart and angry early on the show just for him to rely on others (the Franks and the Rus) completely to achieve things, what a waste
season 1&2 amazing season 3 still good season 4 half good half bad season 5☠️ what the fuck is this shit and why is it 20 episodes long season 6 why are we here just to suffer the ending is shit still realy enjoyed the show for its setting but after season 4 it was really downhill some scenes where still great but 40 episodes is crazy.
Still better than last 2 seasons of The Walking Dead. No show was ever butchered harder than TWD. Last two seasons of Vikings were at least entertaining! Also loved the ending. I'm pretty sure some vikings reached America before the italians/spanish.
The biggest downfall was NOT adapting Ivar's adventures in Ireland. Like, c'mon! Real Ivar became king of Dublin and his house, the Uí Ímair ruled there for a long time. Real Ivar also destroyed the kingdom of Alt Clud. What about making Hvitserk the king of Dublin? Sure he ruled for a year or two, but you can make some shit up. Bjorn became king of Sweden, how bout exploring that story? We don't need it to be historical accurate, just adapt the most important moments in their lifes?
Wow, this video came just in time. I just finished season 4 and I’m currently watching season 5. Already I can tell season 5 and 6 won’t be as good. But I’m planning to watch it for a few characters
I think that was poor writing, they strongly hinted that he was Rollo’s son but they completely forgot that plotline and had absolutely no solution for it, so they never mentioned it again whether to confirm or to deny
This is just a summary of the show. Not a description of the downfall. Watching this if you want a recap, not if you want an interesting take on where the show went wrong
Poor writing, at some point they just have everyone switching side with absolutely no reason or bigger plan, everyone just switches sides. That’s poor writing
I believe Ragnar's death was filled with nuance. They beat one of his eyes closed so he literally transforms into Odin himself, and delivers the " curved horn" speech with that classic Travis sarcasm. Ecbert gets hit with the Christ parallell and it breaks him. The Christians had to kill Ragnar in order for the paralel to work. He had to be killed by the ultra self righteous, just like christ. His conversation with the seer about fate is amazing. I believe, if you are willing to think deeply about the entire sequence of events, it could be thought of as the seed that would eventually grow into scandanavian christianity. I mean, in the ficticious world of the Vikings tv show.
Completely wrong. Ragnar knew what his death would bring. Seeing his sons choose different paths was the best parts of season 5 and 6. Of course we all missed Ragnar….but the show was still great after his death. Just as good if not better.
What ruined it for me was the stupid forced inclusion of boss women etc, just got annoying. Yes maybe there were some shield maidens but constantly seeing anorexic super models defeat 120kg built warriors was wacky
Completely disagree, characters in season 5 and 6 just exist, they have no plans, no structure, they just do random things with no fil rouge and therefore never building their characters
Disagree, the sons’ campaign in England was the best part of Season 4, and Ivar vs Bjorn and later on Ivar vs Alfred also had huge potential but was very poorly written and therefore completely crumbled, but it was very possible to have the serie go on after Ragnar’s death with a decent writing
@marcot3868 it was possible but didn't pan out is what you're saying... so again Ragnar made that show and got dull after his death. It should of ended there
@@wickid-the-rogue If that's your point then the show had gotten dull even before Ragnar's death. After the sack of Paris it was indeed very dumb, they could have done a lot more with the characters and the potential storylines but they didn't. The show didn't have to end that way, it could have just been written better
Yeah, it wouldn't be a bad ending for the whole series the end of season 5. Bjorn becomes king of Kategat after reencountering his mother, who just retires and chill... Hvitserk and Ubbe stay there to rule with Bjorn and Ivar becomes a begger being a cripple with no army, no family, no friends nor homeland. England and it's people, along with the viking settlers, just keep enjoying the peace so hardly achieved and that's it. Oh..and fucking Floki never appears again, for God sake!!! He diyng on the cave collapse is a pretty good ending for what became a very boring character. And who cares about what happened to Harald, the King of Simps? Screw him😂
The thing is: Harald's story was meant to be a big one. One of his descendants was Erik Bloodaxe, King of York. Harald's dynasty was the prestigious Yngling clan.
I watched the show up to where Ivor killed Sigurd, decided the show was going downhill and I should just watch this recap instead. Thank you! This was much more enjoyable than the time I would have wasted actually finishing the show.
Now imagine what an old norse history buff would have felt. I gave up after season three or so, it has become so unwatchable. The last nail in the coffin was the chinese-princess-plants-chewing. I just gave up for a show that could not even produce correctly writen runes on the sword. 🙂
They nearly lost me with the Ivar being a God nonsense. That and basically everything to do with Hvitserk. Hvitserk was the most unnecessary, useless character that lingered for too long on the show. You could have removed him completely and no one would care.
Vikings is amazeballs!! They always planned on 6 seasons. No more, no less. It was amazing from beginning to end. The only part I can complain about is Greenland. And I wish the last episode was better. Other than that, I love it. Great actors. Great arcs.
I'm fine with the older characters being replaced, but replace them with guys that are cooler/as cool as them, and not boring talenetless actors. My biggest issue was how they would introduce someone and hype them up as some sort of main hero/villain just to get rid of them after 2 seconds, it had to be done for laughs at some point. I knew the show went to crap when Lagatha was welcomed back as a saviour, while Ragnar's new wife (forgot her name) was being presented as some kind of bad guy final boss, like... Did the writers forget what happened in earlier seasons? That woman was the reason those filthy norse weren't starving anymore, wtf did Lagatha do to them? Other than sleep with all of their husbands *probably*
I love the series Vikings. I watched at least 25 to times I lost count. Travis has the most Amazing Sexiest Blue Eyes and Smile Ever Travis also is the most Amazing Sexiest Man on Earth OMG WOW so Hot ❤️💗💘💕💞❤️🔥💞😘🥰😍💋💯
Not realistic for two reasons??? Main actors all beautiful white teeth???? Number 2 reason , after main actors were Injured in they would recover to return to the battle field? When in reality, they died from infection???? Joe
It was the worst story I have ever seen , director is good picturization is really good but the story was ridiculous , I have watched a numerous series drama serials and movies but this was the worst story among them , the only highlighting thing was the legendary acting of Travis Fimmel
vikings went bad way before ragnar died. it just got too predictable, had no stakes because no main character died unless it was really dragged out, and had super annoying characters that just made me want to gouge my eyes out (judith)
This show failed so hard on the most important redemption storyline. It’s what the entire show should have been about ultimately but wow did they miss the point of their own show. Absolute garbage. Here’s why, turn. Ragnar. Christian. A righteous Christian. And his death would be by his own people in martyrdom. And through his death, Vikings learn the Beauty and truth of Christianity and become believers. Because this show failed to do this, it is a complete waste of time, talent, realism and hope. They completely disrespected and disregarded one of the best characters, Athelstan. Ragnar was inching closer and closer to this ending but they backed out of it out of cowardice or just stupidity. Pathetic. Turned out to be a pagan show until the end. Clearly they were trying to be GOT and shock people. Ragnar’s death…Fail.
I absolutely AGREE!!!!! They refused to put anything definitively positive about Christianity. Yet, they tried to big up Islam at some point with Floki during that brief trip to Spain.
@ssarkos5148 He was talking about that beautiful story arc between Ragnar and Athaelstan they didn't go through with. After all, this was History Channel and Scandinavia DID become Christian. It only made sense to be historically accurate youatheistzealot. lol Fanaticism is not a one way street apparently. The point was not about making this biblical, but about allowing a beautiful end to a great story arc (mind you, the most interesting one in the whole series) and seize the opportunity to tell history with a bit more accuracy.
@ssarkos5148 Well, to be honest, I think you are right. lol I am a Christian myself and I expect Hollywood and the likes to be anti-Christian. It's en vogue. But I re-read the initial comment and yes it seems that the person who wrote it wanted the show to reveal the greatness of Christianity. To be fair though, they DID try to portray how amazing the religion of Islam was through that trip in Spain with PAGAN zealot Floki that had a DEEPLY rooted hatred of Christianity and of Athaelstan but yet was SOOOOOO amazed by that newly found religion and his devoted followers. So why not give that same treatment to Christianity or just go ''The heck with all religions! We'll keep the norsemen pagan''... Even though they did become Christians at some point in time.
@ssarkos5148 it SHOULD have been. It was boring watching pagan characters get close to Christianity only for them not to learn or spend real time understanding and fall back into worshipping false Gods. His death was garbage and him becoming a drug addict murderer for no reason leading up to his death was worse.
They was busy fighting each other killing each other couldn't trust each other and was making enemies with several kings at once. It was insane how many vikings killed vikings and most of them was taken out by archers some of their tactics were just idiotic they raped and slaughtered people instead of being happy with the home they had. I have viking lineage and mostly European and Celtic and Scottish background. On top of it all they sacrificed their own people dumb they enslaved their own people even dumber.
The actor of Björn ruins the whole show. How can a Director sit there and think, yes this guy suits the role. Everytime he is supposed to be an authority its just a joke and i cant take him serious. I believe every Word Ivar says, he is insane and scary, But Björn just making me laugh and cringe every time he opens his mouth. I can even Look past all the Plot flaws, things Happening with no explanaition or follow up But Björn is just dragging the whole show down into a cringe Fiesta.
"The Downfall of Vikings" but is really just a summary of the show with small comments. Not really pointing to the actual problems, just kinda laying everything out.
Thanks for saving me the time.
I really wish it was what what it says it is. Sad.
Na he said whats need to be said, ur just a simp for vikinhs
He said what needs to be said, thats it
Sounds like the average UA-cam Review

I'd suggest analyzing him in a different light. I like the likenesses to Ragnar and it only enhances the character(s) to me.
Ivar has a huge arch. He's definitley meant to be disturbing and obnoxious. But it makes his painstaking growth and ego checks much more rewarding later on.

I tried to but I just stopped when I saw the black chieftain (jarl hakkon). I was like barf than never watched it again.
season 1&2 amazing
season 3 still good
season 4 half good half bad
season 5☠️ what the fuck is this shit and why is it 20 episodes long
season 6 why are we here just to suffer
the ending is shit
still realy enjoyed the show for its setting but after season 4 it was really downhill some scenes where still great but 40 episodes is crazy.

Season 7😢 season 8 💩

I thought this was gonna be a commentary on the series. Instead, it was just "This happened...and then that happened...and then this happened." 👎
At 13:10 I think they foreshadowed his death by subtly showcasing the swing (throw) of the axe heading towards him in his eye.
There was no downfall, I didn't watch the video to be fair, but there ain't no way this is not clickbait, and reading the comments, it confirms that.
Wow, this video came just in time. I just finished season 4 and I’m currently watching season 5. Already I can tell season 5 and 6 won’t be as good. But I’m planning to watch it for a few characters
How u watch the show and review it and still get it wrong Bjorn is definitely ragnars son rallo was wrong
I think that was poor writing, they strongly hinted that he was Rollo’s son but they completely forgot that plotline and had absolutely no solution for it, so they never mentioned it again whether to confirm or to deny
Seasons 1 through 4 are damn near perfect. Season 5 is watchable but get less interesting. Season 6 is a mess but the last 2 episodes are really good.
Rollo carried the whole family.
This is just a summary of the show. Not a description of the downfall. Watching this if you want a recap, not if you want an interesting take on where the show went wrong
I never understood why rollo supported ivar when caring so much about Bjorn and lagertha…
Poor writing, at some point they just have everyone switching side with absolutely no reason or bigger plan, everyone just switches sides. That’s poor writing
Ivar was the worst character in the whole series. He ruined the show for me

Lagretta killed her ex because she asked her to. She was pregnant and she did not want to have Fine Hair’s baby.
Lame scene
Assuming it was his.. she was gang R worded
23:50 if there is no embelleshment to that statement then it's the funniest thing I've heard all year
One line why the vikings had it's downfall - the series ended
lol i was watching this review while making joints and the outro is just perfect XD
The series literally has no ending. It just ceases
I appreciate the humor you added in this video

I tuned out after Ragnar’s sons got revenge. It got so cringe and predictable
But that’s what happened in real life
@@austinkurmay8646Nope, each son became kings. In the show they did not.
Are you kidding us?
The biggest reason why Vikings were kinda worse after Ragnar's death is the whole Rus story, if this was cut entirely the show would benefit from it
This video really drives home how repetitive the show became after a while. Though I still liked it until Season 5
17:57 I'm going to hell for laughing at that one but that was random as hell
Everyone falling in love
Judith gets breast cancer and dies
Ragnar made that show great it for sure should of ended when he died and possibly had some text about the others at the end type of deal

Season 1: Great
Season 2: Excellent
Season 3: Good, not great
Season 4: Half-decent
Season 5: Complete joke
Got so many nuances and details wrong
I watched the show up to where Ivor killed Sigurd, decided the show was going downhill and I should just watch this recap instead. Thank you! This was much more enjoyable than the time I would have wasted actually finishing the show.
So basically they raid win raid win raid win raid win go back home leave raid win raid win
The show was good for about 2 seasons
This is spot on, wish I'd seen it before watching 90 episodes
I did fall off after ragnars dead, but Bjorn dead whats really good and lagerta as well last season was really unnecessary
I still love the show even though the fake-out deaths and predictable storylines were starting to get on my nerves by the last season.
Now imagine what an old norse history buff would have felt. I gave up after season three or so, it has become so unwatchable. The last nail in the coffin was the chinese-princess-plants-chewing. I just gave up for a show that could not even produce correctly writen runes on the sword. 🙂

You're full of BS. Vikings is an amazing show.
Season 6 was kinda ass. The deaths were kinda anticlimactic
Way too many useless "comedy " edits. Pass
