1:30 First test on the regular wheel
2:24 I always have to go full gaz on the TT bike...
3:19 First test data
3:40 Second test on the disc wheel
4:40 Chain drop!
5:11 Second test data
5:37 Let's go FULL AERO!!!
7:33 Last run data did not go as expected...
7:58 Wrapping up - Спорт
1. The TT fit is coming soon :)
2. No car drafting involved here. I made sure the car was always in the opposition side of the crosswind
3. Love you guys
I think you'll find the aerodynamics get exponentially better if you use a deeper front wheel. Basically, you cannot recover air once it has become agitated for about 3 bike lengths (depending on speed). Thus if you used a deeper front wheel, you would find the differential for the disc got bigger. I hope that makes sense.
awesome!! Thanks for sharing hambini. Yes I'm currently working on getting a new deeper front wheel!
It's mainly the bottom bracket that saves all the watts though ;)
My man did TT efforts just to answer a question we had. Kudos!
ahaha thanks man!! Went in the deep red for you!!!
Nice video Charles! btw what's the crank length in your TT bike vs road bike?
I have one of my road cranks here , so 170mm, I know some people shorten their TT crank!
Nice going, you should try stabilize your pedal stroke, you are leaning side to side on each rotation, perhaps it was some of the crosswinds or saddle height not totally dialed in. Anyways keep it up !
Thanks! Yeah working on the position, will have a new video soon
Love your enthusiasm. It will be interesting to see you with a proper tt position - you will go 2km/hr faster for sure.
Thanks man!! Yes working on it
Great video Charles! But shouldn't you cover the valve hole with tape or something to avoid turbulence there?
I definitely should!!
You should get a deeper section front wheel! You'll get more noticeable aero gains
Yes that's the next upgrade!!!
For maximum time you're gonna want a frame bag filler. A back saddle wind splicer or bag to guide the wind cleanly from your back. a front fender only at the front of the tire covering 135 degrees of the wheel. A top tube bag. A water bottle in your back shirt pocket, possibly an uswe smooth surface water backpack, full length pants or stripper length aero socks, foldable aero bars, and finally a chain chassis protector, aero gloves and finally if you're feeling dangerous, a front disc wheel as well.
There you go that's the absolute maximum speed time build not taking into consideration of wind direction based on scientific drag studies. High aero bars will also help or super long reach aero bars that go past the front wheel
If extra bottles is a must then the best location is either at the front bar or at the back of the saddle in addition to the one of your back shirt pocket which guides the wind away smoothly
Great vid, get that head down!
yes, working on that!!
Which disc is it,
(Elemental) or (Elemental X) ?
Great Power!!! One silly question, are you sure that the saddle height is correct?
Nope I'm note ahahah! will have a bike fit soon
@@CharlesOuimet haha I really like your sincerity! As I can see from the side video shots ,a couple millimeters higher would fit you best! Anyway , I admired your efforts! Keep on!
La chaîne drop souvent avec un 1x et un chairing standard? Je suis tenté de me mettre en 1x mais je mettrais un chainring Absoluteblack avec le profile Narrow-wide comme en montagne pour éviter ça justement.
Pas trop non!
are you running tubular or clincher option?
I got the wheel in tubeless!
Thanks for the wheel recommendation. Those are some really reasonably priced carbon wheels!
They are!!!
Nice vid!
Thanks man!!
how many watts was the disc savings? nice video.
I went the other away around, at 318w on both runs it saved 30 secondes on a 12min course!
316W for the second run is really solid and strong!
Thanks man!
Salute Charles good Job 🙏👍🔥🇵🇷💯
Thanks Luis 🎉
Did you have the same power with the TT suit?
Maybe!
Watching from Philippines ❣️
Thank you for watching man!!!
Thanks for the awesome video Charles! I love these types of real-world equipment comparisons. They give a good idea of the performance benefits to expect from various upgrades. Please keep them coming!
I was surprised that your full-aero test ended up being slower than the previous test, as everything I’ve seen indicates that an aero skin suit can offer significant gains.
As you pointed out in the video, this was probably due to weather conditions at the time, but I also noticed your head was sitting a little high in some of the shots, so you might be able to gain a bit of speed by tweaking your aero position on the bike.
Thanks David! Yes the wind picked up quite significantly for the full TT suit. I'm sure it's way faster, just bad timing!
Yes I know I can get more aero, will have a new bike fit soon!!
I am still waiting for full review of LUN wheel. Looking forward to hear what your opinion on it.👍
Ahah yes yes, I'll get it done soon. I just don't ride the LUN much since they are on my girlfriend bike
@@CharlesOuimet you should have just hijack the wheel or your girlfriend bicycle (aware it is too small for you) and review it for sake of humanity 😂😂😂
@@hamtairo ahahahah!! The problem is my bike is disc and her rim!
@@CharlesOuimet oh no, then hijacking her bike is the only way to go. After all, world tour rider tend to ride bike smaller than it supposed to be😂😂so you get the pro feel too😂
Your 12:20 PR somehow shows on your strava below the #2 time in the first shot of the phone screen, or am I mistaken? :)
The guy who I beat freaking went back and took it yesterday LOL, I'll go again on a less windy day and get it back
@@CharlesOuimet Strava war initiated 😂
@@CharlesOuimet go for it, start fresh, you'll smash that KOM for sure man :)
Was your saddle height lower?
Yeah I can maybe raise it !
you and the bike look great... too hell with the speed lol
Thanks,!
so 90 PSI for best performamce and speed is good right?
Depend of the pavement! You could go all the way to 110psi, but thats really uncomfortable
@@CharlesOuimet yeah sounds good but my question is 90 pptimal for the best speed and and performance i mean going any more than 90 any gains? i know going less than 90 like 80 or 75 slows me down in my opnion on fast gropu rides....i need to hang with faster guys so was curious thanks!
In my area its so hard to get koms anymore. Everybody waiting for the perfect tailwind and with extremely low drag bike setups
yeah that's the problem :( create some new segments!!
@@CharlesOuimet Thats also a problem. Like every piece of raod is pretty much already a segment. We have KOMs where ppl averaged like 270W and had an average of 70km/h. No chance without a typhoon as a tailwind or without ftp like a monster
@@someguy9520 or mechanical doping my guy
Why don't you get a specific 1x chainring or crank?
Working on it... ahah, shits already so expensive
Can you experiment on what happens if you put the disc wheel at the front instead of at the back?
ahah the bike would be hard to handle! Full disc at the front is only used on the velodrome!
@@CharlesOuimet but the wind comes from the front and not the back? Wouldn't it be better if the disc wheel is at the front but then crosswind would make it unstable... 🤔
Can't imagine riding outside with a full disk front wheel... recently upgraded from 35mm deep to 51mm deep carbon wheels and i really feel the gusts in my handlebars... and im on the heavy side of riders at 180 pounds. Full disks at 150 pounds in crosswinds = sketch !
Can u do a training program especially for newbies
I actually have this in the works!! Should be ready soon
@@CharlesOuimet Great, cant wait
Think u need to post graphs depicting the power you were riding at. Proper quantification and qualification is important
thanks for sharing! I shared the strava average power for the whole loop from my powermeter, but yes I'll keep that in mind for sure!
I think your saddle is a bit short, the legs should get more extended
I was thinking the same
yeah maybe ehh, I found it comfortable like that, bike fit coming soon!
J’ai repris le kom avec mon bike de route mais j’ai mon TT en réserve au cas ;)
Chanceux, tu as probablement eu une journée moins venteuse ;)
Is your seat a little bit lower ?
Yeah I can maybe raise it !
Totally understand the Full Gas Feeling.
Saddle a little low but great speed! Raise the saddle a few centimeters and you’ll be even faster.
thanks!
I would just keep it and go with the midfoot patrocleat
beau garçon, beau vélo, belle roue :) ça a l'air d'aller vite tout ça
MERCI :) !!!!
So now we wanna see a 100mm front wheel from aerocoach like Ineos team! 😅
ahah yes!!!
Aeroidiot 🤣
The dangling helmet straps is slowing you down lolz
ahhaha yup
Maybe a few free watts can be gained for your benefit by cleaning up your chin strap. It was flapping a lot.
ahahah probably XD
Next tri spoke front.
ahah yes!! or super deep
I wonder if he'd be faster with the bars 5cm lower.
Maybe yes!!
completely besides the point but I just want to say: Fuck you have huge quads dude, I used to be a bodybuilder in a previous life and I would have killed to have your quads! :D
AHAHAH Thanks man!! Appreciate the comment :)
Definitely lost the KOM to the flapping strap of the helmet. Thus little thingy offsets all other Aero gains 😅 Just joking, big kudos dir the effort!
LOL yup, my bad on that. Thanks man
1st from Philippines 🇵🇭
HELL YES BUDDY
anyone else see the promo code for wheel science?
Sorry, just added!!!
@@CharlesOuimet No worries thanks!
Australian flag on the bike??
The bike has been own by a pro cyclist from Michelton scott before Robert Stannard
He replied me
Thanks guys!!!
you need shorter cranks, mate!
yeah I'd love that!
7:40 This strap doesn't look aero, that's probably why you lost those 9 seconds ;)
I KNOW AHAH not my helmet, borrowed from a friend
5% faster by using a disc wheel. It's alright but not when you consider that the wheel cana cost up to $2000
Worth it for lots of people!
@@CharlesOuimet data shows that they actually perform the same as disc covers so now i'm thinking about selling my disc wheel and just buying cheapo covers
Hello Charles, pourquoi tu parles pas français dans tes vidéos?
Puisque mon audience est très internationale :)
In my opinion is the sadlle too low
Yeah will raise it
i hate to be 'that guy' but lift your damn saddle ffs, love your video's btw keep it up !!
Yeah I can maybe raise it !
yeah, looks way to low
Are you really sure to lift it? Because when you was driving you was shacking around to left and right and I think this indicates, that the saddle is too high and you have to stretch with each rotation your whole hip.
But maybe I am just wrong and this shacking is caused by the hight effort?
@@SaschaN Going point!! I did had hip shaking when the saddle was higher. In this video my hip seem at the right height, but a bike fitter will let me know.
My shoulder were shaking at the end of the effort, which is not a good thing. I'll keep in mind!!
@@CharlesOuimet would be interesting what the expert recommends you. I stay tuned 😉
keep the head low
yes !
It's all fun and games until you hit a crosswind
ahahah yupp!! Especially with a disc wheel
Why slower with all the gear
Wind condition changed and tired from the last two effort. Not the most scientific test out there ahah
@@CharlesOuimet You are saying tired, so you did not run the same power all runs?
saddle too low
yeah I'll raise it up!
@@CharlesOuimet it looks low but idk how you feel lol dont raise it up if you feel that its ok
may want to tape the chin strap on the helmet from flying around.
ahaha I know, it was my friend helmet, he lost the rubber that hold the straps. I'll make sure mine doesn't do this :p
Tired + head too high = slower
cool!
Bro, your fit doesnt look good. Not too aero. If you raise your seatpost, it’d be so much faster. You dont look short at all, so the seat looks too low. You wont get aero benefits with that tt bike. Just my 2 cents.
Working on it! Bike fit soon
Riding a TT bike without a TT helmet just doesn't look right.
ahahhahah agreed
I think your bike is way too big, your font end is so high and it is making you very unaerodynamic.
The size is right, just need to tweak the position 😋
Your seat is too low.
Your seat looks low
yeah maybe!
