Nice to see Larry in action. He coached my 4.5 league team in Cincinnati back in the late 90’s. Learned so much about the doubles game from him.

That was a good match. Both players with great hands obviously know their way around a tennis court. Interesting and impressive how well Larry, standing inside the baseline to defend against the drop and low bouncing slices, is able to hit balls that have already passed him to stay in then regain control of the point. At 59, and working my way back to the game, I’m finding footwork very challenging to regain and am well aware how well these guys move at their age.

Great observation. Good luck with the footwork, I agree 100%.

This is encouraging and I may enter my first tournament at 70 if I don't have to go too far.

I can certainly vouch for him being an excellent tennis player. Tough both mentally and physically. I haven't used him as a coach but from talking with him briefly I really liked his attitude and knowledge. A great sportsman!

Hope to see more senior videos. Over sixty years old. Or 55. Thanks

Why do players 65 and older tend to use the slice so so much more than all other players?

Is it common for players in that age group to use so many drop Shots? I guess they work so well because opponents are not that fast anymore and players have great touch to execute them perfectly?

Pretty much. Especially the better players who can control that drop shot. I learned a long time ago when playing senior tennis that you have to stand either on the baseline or inside it. Otherwise, many players will drop shot you to death.

Yes, I understand he's been a force for some time now. I wonder how his relative performance against someone like Turville is, i.e., did he do better or worse way back then against the likes of Turville? He certainly didn't seem intimidated in this match!

Larry...r.i.p... Vishnu played a Cornell friend, & lost 1st or 2nd round. Larry was much tougher... probably had cancer during this match
