- Atlanta Sr Invitational, 2018. Jimmy Parker, No. 1 ranked Men's 75 singles player in the U.S. (9th in the world) squares off against Fred Drilling, ranked No. 2 in the U.S. (No. 23 in the world) in a classic match of the best senior players in their divisions. Hint: Drilling mounts a fierce comeback starting in the 2nd set at 7:12 Filmed with a Muvi K-2 . I now promote the SwingVision "platform" (stick plus analyzing software) available through my link: swing.vision/r... . And yes, I own stock in the company. :)
Lob, backhand slice and drop shot are the best weapon in single senior tennis competition.
Yep, you'll be a great senior player if you have those shots! If and when I see Jimmy Parker again, I will ask him if that's the way he always played. Maybe he was a power player in his younger days....???
Thanks for filming this match, Mike. Great job.
These guys still have it... thanks Mike!
I love it! These guys got it going on! They are wearing their tennis kit and are locked in battle. Good stuff.
Amazing shape for +75, God bless them.
I'm impressed with their movement. They cover a lot of court!
At. about 7:10 into the video the commentator says to not count anybody out yet. I did at that time. I counted Drilling out because I KNEW he was incapable of having the endurance to win in 3 sets. I knew that if by some small chance he could win the second set he would be completely exhausted after that.
Parker has over 130 Gold Balls (Winning a US National Championship). More than any man ever!
Damn, that's good!
great stuff!
Camera quality's amazing.
It really is, but I've switched to using my iPhone for my own matches as the quality is even better....and the battery seems to last forever.
Their strings sound like they have a tension of under 10.
Good stuff again! Thanks for posting. I'm still hoping to see the 45's or 55's from Atlanta maybe?
this year I hope!
The gentleman in red has fantastic movement!
Blandon Tennis He’s an interesting guy. Playing tennis over 60 years. Flew C130s in Vietnam. There’s an article about him in the Santa Fe New Mexican from last year.
WOW!!!
Yeah, I know.
Well done. The soft hands of Parker's slice backhand make it hard to cover the court.
Not bad for a guy who drilled JConnors a frw years back...
Players play like Gonzales and Laver in the 1960s.
Drilling's dad played those guys.
it would help if you guys name the racket they are using. Is Parker using an Asics?
Yes it is the Asics and I switched over to that racquet myself and love it.
He was using an Asic when I watched him a the Grass Court National Champs in 2017.
Yes ASICS is the only one I know of with that shape. I know there is a 116 and a 125.
Parker has been using the mid-size Asics 116 for quite a while. I always used the larger 125 Asics since it came out, until a year ago I lost to a fellow using a Gamma Big Bubba, 135 sq. inches and 2 inches longer at 29inches. It's the largest legal and longest legal racket made. Don't knock it until you've tried it. It's one of the most popular rackets on the Senior tour. I get more power on the serve and more power on the backhand. No different than Roger playing better once he switched to a larger racket. Pro's will try new rackets and the first time they miss a shot, they say I never missed that shot with my old racket and they switch back:)!
Where is held? thanks.
This is held at the Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta.
What’s with the glove? I’m seeing this more often with seniors.
Being old makes many things tougher and one of those is the condition of your skin.
"The loss of the elastic tissue (elastin and collagen) in the skin with age causes the skin to hang loosely. Skin becomes more transparent as we age. This is caused by thinning of the epidermis (surface layer of the skin). Skin becomes more fragile as we age."
Years ago in the middle of summer I couldn't hold onto the racket. The glove gives you an excellent grip when wet and you gain complete confidence holding onto the racket. Don't know anyone that uses a glove because of a skin condition but it would work as well.
A glove can help, as a last resort, if you have blisters. Cuts down on the pain caused by raw skin pressing into the handle.
You've got to be kidding me! I'm 77 and hit my serves and ground strokes twice as hard as these guys! #1&2????
So, I don't know who you are, but if you can also keep the ball in play, we would all love to see you play. These guys are amongst the best in the world in their age group. Or maybe hitting hard isn't what it's all about??
Haha, nice, commenting like a young guy
You should upload video of you playing. Shots ALWAYS look much slower on video. Also these guys have fantastic hands and really good defensive skills.
Have you beaten Jimmy Connors in his teens? Winner here did...
My guess is you know very little about tennis. You should try pickleball.
