    That was what I call a "cold seize" caused by many different things that can easily be avoided, well the next time anyway :). Unlike the newer engines that have a nikasil bore/aluminium bore, that motor has a cast iron bore sleeve (looks like a Vortex). The aluminium piston increases in size quicker then the cast iron as the motor comes up to temperature, water cooled makes this a slower vs air cooled. Being water cooled the piston and bore can run a finer clearance then an air cooled too, however you need to warm these up for a few laps first before pulling 18K down the straight. The tune was out, too lean in the mid range and on the high end jet, plus you where running way to many teeth for a casual day out at the track. A two stroke that is on tune should four stroke/run rich down the straight when its cold and clear up when its up to temp. Rebuild the motor and learn how to tune the carb get the motor to four stroke on the straight and then screw in the high end jet so it just doesn't and then tune the low jet so its pulling out of the corners but not four stroking in the midrange. These things are great fun to run but they are not a Rotax Max they are a real race engine and need to be run like one. Driving style has I lot to do with it also, you can not have long periods off the throttle especially before that main straight, if you do, you need to choke the engine with your hand with the throttle open before long parts of off throttle, long braking areas and sometimes in long tightening sweepers. No throttle = no fuel = no oil = no friction modifiers = heat = piston size increases = seize, that's why a two stroke engine will almost always seize as soon as you take your foot of the gas because there is no longer oil mixed fuel lubricating the engine. Hope this helps, btw I have run these things for over 25 years.

      The lack of lubrication during closed throttle is something my dad warned me of when I was just 16. I had just got my first moped. Especially in countries with steep hills this is pretty important information for vehicles with a two stroke engine (mostly mopeds).
      But it's not common knowledge, unfortunately.
      My second moped was a Honda MB-50 which had it's own oil pump and tank which seeped oil into the intake manifold. That was an absolute beast of a machine, for a 70 cc at the time. It had a top speed of 110 kph.

      I'm more of a tinkerer myself.
      Not every engine is the same and parts need to be made to spec.
      An engine doesn't like constant changing rpms and gearing.
      In leyman terms it's like grabbing a piece of iron and constantly bending the strip up and down (like shifting gears) till it snaps.
      Whilst an engine like to run at a certain rpm(constant strain) , like it states in the owner manual: 185 HP at 2700 rpm.
      That's the best rpm to keep your engine at for the most power(which you often don't need in regular traffic).
      But the physics are the same for a high spec engine, I guessed 😂
      Only in a race you go max and that could result in a catastrophic failure.
      No strain, no gain 😜

    Many years ago we used to have the same problem with Rotax motors; just as you take your foot off the gas the engine seizes. After taking the motor apart each time we discovered the gudgeon pin had fallen out. Tried different circlips and the problem stopped.

    • @gavinvalentino6002
      @gavinvalentino6002 Рік тому +1

      Short-throw dipsticks cause aeration over .5G, which you can achieve rolling an office chair over the floor. A kanooter bypass valve is a MUST to relieve EGR pressure in a Rotax cart with a short-throw dipstick mod, especially if the airconditioner is running. But if one is built right, they can be cogged to run shortcourse specific, or to have topend speed up to 160mph @ 26,482rpm on a course like VIR. The rev limiter is set at 26,500 and it's not a soft-touch system, it just suddenly cuts all fuel for a few seconds, which is uncool when you have carts closing behind you and it's like you suddenly dropped anchors onto the pavement. Thankfully, at that speed, any crushing of the fuel tank causes it to spray backwards, and the vaportrail flows right over the tailpipe and ignites like a James Bond gadget. You'd think that would deter kart tailgaiting, but for the most part, the guys are willing to risk the burns for the thrill of the sport.

    AIR LEAK
    When you read all the other advice, just remember this about 2 strokes. It doesn't matter if the piston is cast aluminum and the bore is iron, or etc.
    1) tune the carbs perfectly - pilot jet, midrange jet, main jet
    2) run through the entire RPM range then pull the spark plug and make sure it's not too lean - you should know what a proper spark plug looks like if the carbs are tuned correctly
    3) and STILL, if a small air leak develops, even if 1) and 2) are correct, the air leak will kill the engine
    There are lots of reasons why an air leak (which instantly leans out the mixture by suddenly adding too much air to the fuel-air mixture) can happen INTERMITTENTLY (heat, vibration, etc) but CHECK THE INTAKE MANIFOLD and anywhere else on the intake side of ANY 2-stroke engine for cracks etc.
    We use starter spray (such as "Blaster Starter Fluid 11 Oz Fast Acting Engine Spray Start in Extreme Weather") and spray it around the intake side of the engine:
    - when the engine is cold
    - when the engine is warm
    - when the engine is hot
    If you are CAREFUL and JUDICIOUS and use a minimum amount of starter fluid spray, and control its dispersion, listen for the RPMs to climb.
    The RPMs should NOT climb if the intake side of your engine is air-tight (ie. no outside air gets in except through the air filter). If you hear the RPMs climb under different temp conditions when testing with starter spray, you may have an air leak.
    My background is with 2-stroke motorcycle engines and those freaking air leaks suck, and are unhealthy for the engine. You can troubleshoot air leaks with starter fluid spray as above. If you replace all the intake parts, you must still check for air leaks with starter fluid spray. Good luck!

I waited about 20 minutes and once the engine cooled down I was able to start it back up and drive away like nothing happened! I wouldn't pay much attention to the comments about the jetting because the engine was cold and there is no way of telling. But because of the same reason, you shouldn't be pushing so hard... warm up the engine for a couple of laps before revving so high or warm it up before practice so you don't lose track time. Your engine will certainly last longer.

    By the sound of it, the side of the piston seized (not the top). My guess would be either lack of lubrication (bad premix) or the main jet was too small. Good luck sorting it out!
    edit: if the piston or cylinder was recently replaced, and this is the first test in such conditions (air and engine temperature), maybe the piston was just a tiny bit larger than optimal and the heat expansion caused it to seize.

    All the manufacturers ever had to do for hobbyists is take the direct drive 100cc air cooled engines and up them to 125cc and detune them slightly so they offer the same performance with much higher reliability.
    Instead they chose to switch to Touch and Go bull so that they keep making tons of money off batteries and clutches without even offering an option for a direct drive 125cc.
    Seeing as they were killing karting for hobbyists they came up with the OK engine, should have gone with that from the start,manufacturer greed has ruined the sport for me.

    Cold engine + Very High Rev + Bad Oil or mix + lifting a little bit the gas pedal --> seize
    I use to race old bike, the rule is never go 90% throttle after a long 100% throttle (what you've done here). Release gas at 0% and brake

    • @emiljai8346

      And you should also look the setup of the air/fuel ration , cause the mixture is not good on low rev med gas/

    Mine did the same thing. I was racing a dirt oval and for the three laps before it blew it was the fastest it had ever been. I shoulda known it was coming. I just thought I had it dialed that day. Nope!

    What shutterspeed are you using? Would be interesting to see this at 25fps with 50th/s shutterspeed for more motion blur and sense of speed.

    I run Amsoil Saber Synthetic in everything I own. They will guarantee any engine you run it in up to 200:1(!!) and have ran their tests as lean as 400:1 with no damage whatsoever. My brother has a 50+ customer lawn care service and at 75:1 he is using about one-third the amount that he used to run over the course of a season. Tanakas & Stihls cant get enough of it. As his primary mechanic I will add that the operating temps are a bit lower that the old Dino-based garbage oil he used to run

    • @thiswillprobhrt
      @thiswillprobhrt 7 місяців тому

      It work take a miracle for any oil at that ratio to suit this kind of scenario. Peak RPMs approaching 21,000 RPM with a power output approaching 300hp/l leading to extremely high localized temps.

      @thiswillprobhrt Plus, run the ratio of your choice up to 200:1; start out at the 10:1 you I am inferring that you think your engine needs; unless you have money to burn and more dollars than sense

    • @thiswillprobhrt
      @thiswillprobhrt 7 місяців тому

      @@doctorcountersteer6580 you want to talk about "more dollars than sense".... pistons and lost races cost a lot more than oil.
      We're not talking about a chainsaw or lawn equipment... This is a high output racing application
      From Amsoil's own materials it's for " handheld two-stroke equipment using other oil"
      ie, consumer products, not racing and not high output.

    • @doctorcountersteer6580
      @doctorcountersteer6580 7 місяців тому

      @thiswillprobhrt So your POS oil appears to have failed; what have you got to lose? If you were that pressed why are you not having yours analyzed?Listen, if the 'Browns can pull off a punt, even before Flacco came along, why not? Some of us men have it ALL figured out and are reluctant to try anything new ( especially ME ). You gonna tell me your mill runs any hotter than 6k for 8 hr days like my Tanaka weed eater, for like 14 years as of next season? Just bc you are guaranteed to make a millionaire out of a race car driver by starting with 2 million doesn't mean it has to be YOU! You can't be afraid to take risks if you are a driver or you will lose.
