I think an underrated part of this game that I rarely see discussed is like, the semiotics of this game. There's a coherent thematic language in things like the planet cards and tarot cards. My favorite detail that tipped me off to this, for instance, is how the Death card does not remove cards from your deck but rather transforms a single card. That's not the *obvious* choice for what a card called Death would do, but it is certainly in line with how it's commonly interpreted in tarot readings. Or how Pluto is High Card because it's kind of a runt of a not-planet the way High Card is kind of a not-hand. Also you'd probably be pulling some "far-out" strats if you're buffing high card. You sorta pick up on implications like that and it's really fun to try and read between the lines in this game.

Scraping by on those razor fine margins is what makes many games so exciting, and in my opinion STS is one of the most godly well balanced games of all time in that regard. debuffs for picture cards is my cryptonite
This game looks interesting
Always its nice to watch a Cold take
I was wondering what all the fuss is about but now I get it
Great video as always!
I won the second round I played with a double plus stone card deck and then uninstalled the game before it was able to consume all my free time. 😅
If Balatro ever comes out on mobile, it might be enough to singlehandedly break my gacha addiction.
I'm dead serious.
It’s coming to mobile
It's available now. Go.
Be free.
Best series on the channel!
Da hell I see an interesting Balatro video, click on it, and behold: Frost the (previously?) smite UA-camr begins talking
This game is absolutely fantastic and timeless. It's as simple as Windows Solitaire but as complex as chess.
Just bought Balatro a few days ago. My friend and I even made a Let's Try video about it just last night!
Frost? I'd recognize that voice anywhere... So this is what you've been up to.
This is about the 3rd review I've seen that has sung this game's praises. I should probably look into this.
The way that i got hooked on luck be a landlord. I've got no hope resisting this game.
Balatro has legitimately gotten me to memorise the various combinations you can play in poker, like i had tried to multiple times before but just never was able to get it to properly click. Next stop is the casino!
as usual Frost, an excelent video
brilliant game, thanks for highlighting
Feels as if I'm playing a round of no holds barred texas hold'em against the devil for my soul, and even after I've won I choose to stay here for one more round.
Goddam what a line.
I was listening to this review while playing Balatro.
This is the only review style that I want to see talk about Balatro.
My friend showed me the Demo on steam and I didn't think much of it. Suddenly it was popping up everywhere.I had some spare $ on the eshop so picked it up and have really enjoyed it. For me it's a game you have to play to get properly
i feel most (roguelike) deckbuilders are like this. the balatro demo didnt really click with me but i can see myself playing this excessively after getting invested
A very satisfying review. Thank you.
MAKE NUMBER GO UP
MAKE NUMBER GO UP
MAKE NUMBER GO UP
MAKE IT RAAAAAIIIN!
Welp, I see an addiction I'm avoiding. Looks really fun, but I'd get lost in it.
"looks like gambling for kids" 😥😥
"real gambling for kids" 😃😃
They only care cause if kids are addicted to playing Balatro they aren't gambling for real
So sad kids can't experience the joy of pulling a 5 star joker from a premium pack 😢
The depth of Balatro is incredible, but getting to understand it takes some investment
So addictive I play it on Switch, Apple Arcade and I just bought the physical PS5 version. This game is crack.
