I used to watch movies in a normal way as a generic audience. When I found this channel back a year ago, I am now watching and analyzing the technical side of film making. This channel changed my perception of film making. Thank you studio binder. The only channel I allowed for notifications. I wish one day I could see the narrator.
These series are so well organized with easy to understand breakdowns to tie in with examples of the cinematographic greats. We are all lucky to receive this information for free!! In fact - the series is becoming a popular reference and shared in my industry (vfx/animation). Even though we're using virtual 3D cameras all these principles can be applied even down to the lens choice, as we are able to copy the specs to mimic the "real-world" lens.
Me too. Because I cannot afford to go to film direction learning institute because of money and the only way I'm learning is studiobinder. Thanks a lot studiobinder
13:26 The plane of focus can be *tilted* left/right/up/down. The shifting doesn't change the plane of focus, just which part of the image circle you want.
I literally cried watching this, I have never noticed such fine details in the movies that's been shown as an example here. Hats off to the StudioBinder team.
I finally found a National Geographic Channel for filmmakers! Salute to the creators. This would be the best tutorial I ever had. A big thanks to the team. This channel deserves a million subscribers!
Who else sees a bigger picture with these guys? The way the narrator explains every point makes me feel like am the next filmmaker in the making. Kudos. From Kenya
from studio binder I've learned more about film and it's fundamentals than any other channel out there, the information presented is simple, easy to understand and to the point
Just stumbled into your channel and now forever hooked. The amount of care you give into these lessons is a breath of fresh air. Will continue rewatching them. So much to learn and apply.
4:45 Extreme Wide wide angle start at 10/11mm / For The Revenant, Emmanuel Lubezki used lenses between 12mm and 21mm on the wide Alexa 65 sensor as said MR Pernickety. You made the best video series I saw on YT. Thanks and congrats.
I'll never get tired of commenting how thankful I am for being subscribed to you, awesome people. Really hope someday I can support you with something more than a mere like and comment. All the best for you!
I'm grateful to you all. Your videos teach me SOOOOOOOO much. I'm learning from a few other places, but these videos are so concise, and informative. I literally take notes and go envision my next scenes with the knowledge of the lens, frame, or sound. THANK YOU!!! I promise to pay it forward!
When I become a succesful screenwriter one day, I will owe all my hard work to you guys. You guys made learn everything about a film. Brought me to new levels and made my day. Thanks a lot you guys!!!
A content that gives a feeling as if I'm watching something premium. Exact things that I always was curious about while watching movies because cinematography is such a topic of interest for me. Wow! Truly an awesome, awesome job you have done here.
My name is Noah from Iraq, Baghdad. I would like to thank you for this beautiful video, which contains a lot and is rich in information. Thank you from the heart.
As someone who is not a filmmaker but is just curious to learn more about the craft (I make music for film so it's definitely good for me to know) this channel has been illuminating to say the least. And presented so simply to be easy to understand.
The narrator has that unique brand of david attenborough-e kind of voice that could make me listen to him for hours, no matter the subject. And the rest of the production is just as good, great facts and pacing, aswell as the editing. Easy instant subscribe, keep it up, I LOVE IT!
Love that you use the movie "the 90's. It looked so shoe string yet drew me into story. I just rewatched it last night after watching these. Thank you so much for these chestnuts of knowledge.

The Telephoto lens was widely used in those classic films that were shot on Petrero Hill & Stainer Street San Francisco. Thank you Studiobinder for this wonderful lecture.
The moment I saw you videos I subscribed coz genuinely no one describes the way your videos describes the details of any cinematic videography. Seriously am getting lots of knowledge by your tips. Keep it up
5:35 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas use (info I found) a Zeiss Prime 10mm and 12mm on a 35mm Alexa. It's shure it's NOT a fisheye but ultra wide angle. For example, look the wall at 5:48 it's straight. Same in Birdman it's Zeiss Master Prime 12mm and it's also NOT a fisheye. (Thanks for your superb video. )
I have shared you videos to.many of my friends . Please make more videos so that many others can know and understand cinema in a better way Studiobinder 🔥🔥❤️❤️
(must watch for complete lens guide) for last 2 days I was looking for best lenses for video on my r6 then i found this it gave me all the information i needed and taught me everything about lenses.
Great primer on lenses! I think it needs a point of context when referencing focal lengths. All of the numbers quoted are correct for the 35mm format. Change the sensor size and the relationship to focal length will change. A 50mm prime is a standard lens on 35mm full frame and kind of standard on APS-C. The same 50mm lens would be a telephoto on micro 4/3 and a wide angle in IMAX (and probably have significant exposure falloff at the edges of the frame of IMAX as well). Test your gear, learn, and know what it can do for you... and have fun!
Awesome job on creating this video. Very informative, interesting, with very good examples. Videos like this are so valuable…amazes me that we can learn these for free. Thank you.
When i found this channel, i felt like a greedy child who found lots of chocolates, i didnt want to share it with anyone and keep all the knowledge to myself...but i realised these guys shared it for free...and the least i can do for them is to share their videos as much as i can. Kudos to the creators. You guys are making many distant dreams seem closer for aspiring filmmakers
Exactly my thoughts. FOR FREE!! Such a nice, to the point book. I read 3 in one day as it was so much interesting to learn about exposure, camera lenses and colours. Thank you so much @studiobinder. Love you guys.
