I feel like this is really a stupid question but what is the point of a HOA? I live in a really rural area where we dont have any HOA's around us. Just every time i hear someone talk about their HOA its always some crazy drama or someone is getting some wild fine because their garage door aint a certain color or something.

Almost every time I hear about HOA drama it involves abuse of power, illegal activities or situations like high school immaturity. NOT YOU or your HOA of course but just saying it’s been my experience. One of the situations involved the HOA treasurer who got angry at other members and pretty much said you don’t know a password for the account good luck and held funds hostage. Until lawyers got involved that is.
Most Boards are shady AF. I was once employed by a nonprofit run by a Board of Directors and they were absent, incompetent, unhelpful, and ignorant. Most of them had sat on that Board for 3+ decades!! Worst employment / HR experience of my life 😖
