Sidney holding Roman's hand was a nice touch. It shows what a strong, compassionate person Sidney is. Roman was the brother she never knew she had. Even after everything he did, she could still pity him.

Scream 3 is my favorite and too under appreciated - it's such a good origin story. For 2 films we watched dozens of people die all because of Maureen, and she's bashed so negatively by EVERYONE from high school girls to news reporters. Scream 3 finally explained who this woman was - was she some troubled, problematic woman or was she the harmless, innocent victim that Sidney desperately hoped she was.
Underrated fun fact: Since Jay and Silent Bob exist in this movie, Alanis Morrisette is God in the Scream movies.
Problem aboute reading the comments about this one BEFORE even watching it, is that you went into the movie already expecting it to be bad. Unfair to Scream 3, it's such a fun movie and honestly, one of the best in my opinion. Can't wait for you to watch 4, 5, 6 too

Remember this was made in 2000, a lot of these actors were not that well known then. Grey's anatomy and Gossip Girl were not made then.

If you feel icky about them insinuating Sid’s mother was assaulted just think Harvey Weinstein worked on this movie. The Mirrors that Jennifer (fake Gale) was killed behind is a one way Mirror in a bedroom. This movie was letting people know what was going on even in 1999

Parker is the best part of 3 (one of them has to be the worst) and probably the best part of Blade 3 also 🤣🤣🤣
Last year I saw (& immediately saved) The Assembly Cut of Scream 3, it is quite different especially the beginning with Cotton stuck in LA traffic, it's longer (prob why it was cut) & has Ghostface's voice instead of the fake voice & ends with the alternate/deleted scenes seen on the DVD/Bluray i.e Christina's death.
The Assembly Cut also has more scenes in Sidneys home in the woods, a longer talk with Ghostface & small tiny scene of Ghostface preparing the voice modulator & Dewey being smart & brave!! In the final showdown instead of "accidentally" (causing the lights to go off for Sidney to hide from Roman) he PLANS IT to give Sidney a fighting chance!! Defiantly saying to Gale "He can't kill what he can't see!!" 🤯🥰👏
The Cut (at 2hrs 22secs) is very low quality (641mb file) black & white with watermarks & was immediately taken down by Paramount but for fans if you can find it still, it's an interesting & fascinating watch. I'm not having them on my back so don't ask me!! 😂 However if you put "Scream 3 Assembly Cut" into a youtube search you might smile 😉
Scream 3 is unapologetically a horror comedy, which made it different from the others. People far too often associate drama with quality, and treat plain comedy as immature or silly. This movie's goal is to make you laugh to balance out the darkest story in Scream. Because beyond the humor it features without question the darkest killer. Roman was a child of rape and knew it, so he wanted to obliterate his entire bloodline. Milton was a stand-in for his unknown father because he participated in and/or facilitates the assault on Sydney's mother. Many folks don't actually make that connection or appreciate that revelation and where Roman's rage actually comes from. Sydney's mother was deeply troubled because of what happened to her all those years ago, and not dealing with it; just like she didn't deal with Roman when he showed up at her door. That's why they lean into the comedy because the subject matter is way heavier than a typical slasher movie.
Oh girl, PLEASE get to Scream 4 sooner than later.

The things we have to forgive about Scream 3 are due to them having to not only rewrite the script due to leaks, but the fact that due to societal pressure as a result of the Columbine tragedy, The violence had to be Nerfed. Therefore, it was substituted with comedy.
I think they did the best they could with what they were left with.
I love the cast though.The addition of Emily Mortimer, Scott Foley, Deon Richmond, Jenny McCarthy, Parker Posey, Patrick Warburton, Patrick Dempsey Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes and Carrie Fisher.
I remember it being a lot of fun in the theater, and with a killer soundtrack.
Honestly, I felt this movie had Sidney in the most danger. I really did think Roman would kill her. He beat the sh*t out of her and, while the vest was obvious in hindsight, I saw this in the theater and the whole room really thought he had shot her. I'd never heard so many gasps! Plot armor is a thing nowadays, but it wasn't then, and it was rare (if not unheard of) to have a final girl get through three movies. Thanks for reacting to this one! It's my fav, and Jennifer is that queen!
I think there's still a lot of charm to this one and I love the constant poking fun of the genre that continues through them even if some of the decisions came off as extra cheesy or fell flat in this one. FWIW the comedy was upped in this one following the moral outrage against violence in media following the Columbine shooting.
Another interesting note is the Milton/studio plotline in 2000, especially considering Weinstein was one of the executive producers...

Also may I fill you in on a fact about why this one doesn't feel as good is because it was supposed to be at a school when alot, if not most of it, but with the Columbine school shooting (RIP to all the victims) they had yo do a quick re-write and as quick as they could screenplay as well.
Fun fact: David Arquette and Courtney Cox met in the first Scream movie. They were dating in 2, and were married in 3 (just before, I think).
I've heard that this is the weakest of the Scream movies. If so, then I'm in for a treat when I get to the others. It is weaker than the first two, certainly, but I still find it eminently watchable. My understanding (comments on other reactions) was that a lot of the problems in this movie were studio interference with Wes Craven's vision of the movie. Don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Something else I have seen folk mention was that Maureen's history, and particularly her being treated the way she was, was a deliberate dig at Harvey Weinstein, one of the producers, which makes Milton's line "If I said anything it would make me a suspect" a deliberate challenge. I don't know if it's true, but I'd like to think so.
I hate when people do that with franchises! People do it a LOT with Scream 3. I love this one! Plot holes and all! Sidney and Romans fight was so good and Neves acting was just amazing as always!
this movie is less gorie because the events of Columbine, they re made the script.
This is actually my favorite one of the whole franchise!!!!! The comedy is so good !!! And also the kills couldn’t be graphic in this one because of the school shooting at the time.

Don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but in early drafts, Angelina was meant to be the 2nd Ghostface. She was going to be an old classmate of Sidney's back in Woodsboro High. The scene Sid found her in the restroom, she was actually putting the Ghostface costume. If you pay attention, there are some scenes that only make sense if there were two Ghostfaces. The change must have come late in production.
I've seen that rumour but I've never heard anyone from the movie confirm that. Do you have a source or a link?

Youre right this one really focused more on cheesy bad comedy instead of horror. They had to change it many times due to leaks but also Columbine shootings. Still my least favorite but makes sense because they had to change the writer also.
I feel like everyone thinks I should hate this one but I can't help but love it. It isn't as great as one and two but it makes me so happy and I think the ending with the proposal and Sydney choosing not to live behind locked doors was beautiful. I'm a minority but I do think that's where it should have ended

It was GOING to be “Fake Sidney” and Roman. But they changed the script. Also this was more funny and less Corey because I think Columbine had just happened and the studio wanted it to be less gory..
This was has grown on me. It’s still one of my least favorite but I still love them all. 4 is a return to form in my opinion. You will probably love it.

This is my favorite one despite the amount of people who dislike it. As far as I know, most people dislike it because of the voice changer aspect and frankly, as far as I'm concerned, who gives a shit? Get over it. I think 4 is the worst one, obviously making it my least favorite. I just dislike the whole motive of the killer in that film. For me it's boring and predictable.
Milton is literally an on-screen character version of Harvey Weinstein. It's actually astonishing that he was a producer on the film and either didn't happen to even watch it, or he did, but was just too stupid to know he was being outted in the dialogue. Such a shame that this came out in 99 and it still took almost 20 years before he was caught and arrested.
The Gale and Deputy Dingbat theme was stolen from Broken Arrow starring John Travolta, fwiw.
I'm not a fan of Hollywood themed stuff, but the main thing I dislike about this movie is the voice changers. Those things are more authentic than AI voice changers we have today.
Fake Gale is easily the best part about the movie. xD
So the people who dislike this movie and just my opinion, keep in mind, but I don’t really think their fans of scream, this movie is pure scream if you want a scream to hate and yes, I know I’ve overuse that word.
Please dislike the sixth movie, Neve Campbell is not even in it so it’s not even technically a scream movie.

I'm a diehard scream fan and 6 was unwatchable, another bloated opinion is that Jenna Ortega is a good actress, that whole movie made me soo sad.

While this was still the weakest movie imo, it's still fun AF and definitely not a bad movie. I would say though that if they used the original cut, this movie would've been 10x better.
