  • In this video I use standard household bleach to remove the chrome from some Kyosho Icarus wheels. This process should also work for other chrome plated plastic parts.
    Thanks for watching.

Thanks that’s great to know that bleach strips the chrome off old Kyosho wheels. In the UK we have a bathroom cleaning product called Viakal. It comes in a spray bottle and that’s great for stripping Chrome and at the same time whitening the wheels. I have stripped three sets of option house turbo optima wheels back to white and they as good as the originals.
    Keep the great content coming

Oh nice, sounds like a great product. I'll look online and see if I can get some Viakal to try out. Thanks David! 🙂👍

I bleached all the chrome off my HG P407 bruiser clone body. Took a week but they came up a treat. I’m actually surprised it worked so quick for you. I saw someone use a product called “Super Clean” but unfortunately I could not source this product in Australia. Thanks for sharing this information. I love your RC tips. Always informative. Look forward to the blitzer build.

I was also surprised how quick it worked. Always the way, isn't it? Whenever we hear of a good product we can't get it. David Chapman mentioned (here in the comments) a product called Viakal which he uses in the UK, he said it removes chrome and also makes the plastic whiter. I've had a quick look and it turns out to be a limescale remover, looks like we can get it from eBay or Amazon. Might be worth a look. Thanks George, I'm looking forward to building the Blitzer. 🙂👍

@@seatime674 That's not too bad. Over here I found it online for $30.95 for a spray bottle, I guess it was around 750ml. Bleach is around $2.95 for 2 litres. I think oven cleaner works too although I've not tried it. I would guess it would be quite fast if it does work.

Nice, this might be the first time I've seen an Icarus on UA-cam... I thought my brother was the only person to have ever bought one of those back in the day.

Thanks! I never saw one in person back in the day, only saw the Pegasus. I guess they weren't very popular. I remember them for the old Kyosho catalogues, always wanted one. Cheers for the sub. 🙂👍

It's good to know, usually I use acetone to do this kind of work, but I didn't know that you could do it with bleach, super tip. Very good choice for this new rc, the Blitzer is awesome .

Well, I used acetone, and it melted all the plastic... It was an old kit from the 80s, maybe they used a different kind of plastic, but it was a nightmare :D Best to be sure and just use bleach.

@@RCHobbyShed your right, I'll be needing a Blitzer beetle, the mad bug got her into these beetles. The little thing just jumps and bounces along the rough ground. Trouble is Hobbyking never have parts for anything, I like some of their cars but there's no point buying them when they never have parts. Take care mate and thanks for the help.

    Yehhhh Blitzer Beetle 😃
I've got one and love it 👌
I painted mine blue and white similar to the sand scorcher but didn't paint the perimeter of the roof blue, a couple of touch ups and its done, you should like yours!.
Thanks for the chrome removal tip!, I'm going to use your peroxide whitening trick on some plastics that went yellow on my enduro bike this weekend.

The peroxide works really well. I planned to use it on these wheel today, of course now there is zero sun. Always the way! 😞

I used enamel interior exterior paint or I guess automotive enamel spray can from Repco or Super Cheap. It left a nice gloss. I scuffed the body with a kitchen scotch bright pad in soapy water then undercoated it. I'm really happy with the finish except where my finger touched the wet paint on the mudguard Dohh!,
Haven't used it outside but looking at its footprint it should stand up pretty well!.

You don't need to glue those tyres, same as the original Optima's they're a clamp together type thing with the internal band.
