I think what really killed Revolver is that it came out in May of 2004 San Andreas dropped in October and completely dwarfed it. Like, there was an ad for San Andreas in the little instruction booklet that came with the game.
That and also Revolver had a really hard development cycle. The project was started by Capcom, but eventually they abandoned it because Capcom kept throwing new ideas and the San Diego studio had no idea what they are supposed to do with it. It's really lucky for us that Houser brothers liked to drink with the head of San Diego studio, since this is the only reason Revolver even was released, studio bought by Take-Two and became Rockstar San Diego, and we, eventually, got ourselves a Red Dead Redemption. You should look up the story of Red Dead Revolver's development, it's interesting stuff.

This was my first Red Dead, and I still love it all these years later, it's a great love letter to classic Spaghetti Westerns. Red is a legend, even in the Redemption games, you can hear people tell his story over campfires in the first game, and Redemption 2 has NPCs that will bring him up, which makes me glad Rockstar still shows love to the game that started it all.

I _do_ remember Red Dead Revolver, it's actually the only game in the Red Dead series I've actually properly played for more than an evening and at a friend's house and outright, actually. I also distinctly recall it being a legit solid and fun third person shooter.
I feel that way about Vice City. I downloaded it several years back on PS3 and couldn't believe how it looked LOL. When that game came out, the graphics felt so realistic.

Man I love the Spaghetti Western thematics in Revolver over the Western GTA cowboy edition of Redemption games even I adore those games too but nothing beats the charm of the Revolver’s old spaghetti western inspired setting and tone including the soundtrack borrowed from the films

the nostalgia trip when i heard that opening music, this was one of my favorite games as a kid. pig josh took me so long to beat, and if i remember right when you are playing as the girl you can ride one of the bulls when you fight.

Fun fact: This was supposed to be a spiritual sequel to the Capcom Arcade game Gun.Smoke, and when Capcom became less interested in the game Rockstar scooped up the studio with this game. This game definitely still has DNA from the Arcade game it was supposed to be a sequel to, and this alongside the other Red Dead games were published by Capcom in Japan, so it goes full circle.
I definitely remember being a kid reading the instruction manual for this when i was going to school but when the xbox was mine i was finally able to play this and it didn’t disappoint!

In real life, metal cookware was valuable out in the 'wild west' ... shooting cast-iron skillets would have been very VERY expensive target practice.

You should play RDR 2 before RDR 1 if your interested in the story as the RDR 2 is a prequel to RDR 1. Both are great games though.
