I think what really killed Revolver is that it came out in May of 2004 San Andreas dropped in October and completely dwarfed it. Like, there was an ad for San Andreas in the little instruction booklet that came with the game.
That and also Revolver had a really hard development cycle. The project was started by Capcom, but eventually they abandoned it because Capcom kept throwing new ideas and the San Diego studio had no idea what they are supposed to do with it. It's really lucky for us that Houser brothers liked to drink with the head of San Diego studio, since this is the only reason Revolver even was released, studio bought by Take-Two and became Rockstar San Diego, and we, eventually, got ourselves a Red Dead Redemption. You should look up the story of Red Dead Revolver's development, it's interesting stuff.
@sebswede9005 absolutely not. Revolver is a classic western with clear lines of good and evil. Redemption 1 is a spaghetti western where our hero is morally gray and the world is exaggerated. Redemption 2 is a revisionist western where our hero is again gray and the world portrays violence in a more realistic less fun way and is more brutal”
This was my first Red Dead, and I still love it all these years later, it's a great love letter to classic Spaghetti Westerns. Red is a legend, even in the Redemption games, you can hear people tell his story over campfires in the first game, and Redemption 2 has NPCs that will bring him up, which makes me glad Rockstar still shows love to the game that started it all.
