"So I Just Reviewed Your Games" and it was weird but keep at it. It takes hours of work to make a game, and it sucks to have all that effort go unnoticed, hopefully this provides some kind of user feedback to help you progress with your game and/or future projects :)
    Games covered:
    - King Of Swords: store.steampowered.com/app/23...
    - The Future Project: store.steampowered.com/app/18...
    - UFO: The Ranch: store.steampowered.com/app/23...
    Additional
    - Zombie Land: Survival: store.steampowered.com/app/22...
    - Royale King: store.steampowered.com/app/26...
    Timeline

I'm WickedWiz from the What Went Wrong series coming at you with some of the most cursed indie games on Steam. This new series is for games that are so bad, that they're actually good. Worst Game On Steam, is a question that hopefully turns out to be false each time. These are games that won't fit the longer form What Went Wrong videos.

I'm actually hugely impressed by the last one. That game very obviously took a ton of effort to make - fully unique models and animations by someone who obviously doesn't have much experience with it. As someone who doesn't know how to animate and has tried (and failed) to make animations, how far this guy got is crazy. Same thing with the models - when you don't know how to model something, making something look like that is very difficult. That game looked like a game made out of passion, and I'm always happy to see something like that.

FUTURE GAME DEVS: Learn Unity, THEN Unreal, that way you get used to coding by hand and you get to understand how the code itself works. Make a few games in Unity, then switch to Unreal once you feel comfortable in Unity and it will become a lot easier. Also, NEVER use the default mannequins in your fully released game. Don't flip base games like Lyra, try to build up your multiplayer and whatnot from scratch. However, I do recommend using the prebuilt first-person/third-person set up and working your way up. Lyra and similar things are meant to TEACH, it is NOT meant to be a crutch. Real gamedev takes time, and you should understand that a good quality game is going to take a long time.

    • @kitsunemusicisfire
      @kitsunemusicisfire 5 місяців тому +1

@@d_mb That's true but right now Unity is safe for now, they rolled back most of their new policies and fired the CEO. And Unreal is pretty easy to use for solo devs. I made a game in one week with a couple of friends in Unreal, and have been able to do a lot of decent work in Unreal Engine.

I really dig this format style of reviews! I really like how you're just judging if the creator put in effort by looking over various things, especially recognizing something simple like the controller vs keyboard prompt changing. It's a really nice way to encourage less experienced developers and make players appreciate simple design mechanics they might have never thought twice about.

Honestly, I think the Future Project DOES have stylised graphics. I've played it - actually before Wiz did, interestingly enough - and not only is it taking place inside a simulation as Wiz said, it's made clear its in-universe creators weren't particularly concerned with how it looked (since it presumably wouldn't affect the AI's performance).
I think the art style is supposed to reflect this, and it looking THAT silly is a design choice.

I love that enemies barely have combat animations and the terrain is clipping through itself but someone took the time and energy to code in poop mechanics. That sure is a use of time and energy.

love this video, it was super entertaining, thank you ❤! I'm relatively new to your channel but I've noticed that you usually comment about games in a slightly deeper level than most gamers. could it be that you have some game dev experience yourself?

12:25 “Old jeep” says land rover on the front. Probably not intentional but that’s pretty funny

Calling that unlicensed model of a Land Rover Defender a Jeep was the real crime here.

    17:33 That isn't a Jeep, it's definitely a Land Rover.
