im a DIY mechanic and i learned a lot from all of your videos, thank you for sharing.. it saves me a lot of money cause im fixing it all by myself.. please keep sharing videos and it help us a lot too..
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. I love data and what you shared is critical data. I just checked mine and my balance shaft tensioner is currently extending at 9.4mm using my digital caliper.
Naptown, this is great info considering I'm doing a timing chain + balance shaft chain in the next month. Amazing this 2011 engine with AM pistons doesn't have oil consumption, while I have a 2013 allroad (CPMA w/ 23mm) at 140k miles and burn 1 quart every 1,700 miles.
Nice you covered the scoring! I cleaned up some scoring about that bad on one of the heads I rebuilt for my 2011 a5. No machine shop just some Dykem blue , Dremel buffing wheels and Dremel silicone rubber polishing bits. May not be so to speak withing spec of Audi but as long as I could spin the intake cam without that Dykem getting removed I felt I was good. Haven't had any issues for the past 10k miles. Been trying to figure out on how you can adapt a bearing once the journals are that scored as I see that would be better than tossing a head. I am though rebuilding another head on my coffee table as I'm typing this.
Just installed both chains and guides and tensioners brand new but still have that oil pressure light switch comes on . I even put oil and filter and a brand new sensor from Audi but still get the same light comes on . I started to think that this problem is electrical, I’m not sure but that’s the next thing I’ll look into . Thanks for sharing this stuff , it’s very helpful
@@ArkECSGO i replaced oil sensor, vvt solenoid, magnet, and oil pump, still getting low oil pressure. cjaa engine i think. did you guys have any luck fixing?
My experience with CCTA at 103k, worn bearings in balance shafts causes the low oil pressure symptom. Replacing both shafts and chain tensioner fixed the problem.
Without having to remove the lower cover... on an engine that is noisy, do you think slightly rocking the crankshaft, while monitoring water pump gear movement, could help identify excessive slack in the chain? I suppose as long as the tensioner is able to apply tension, there won't be much of a delay in water pump movement.
I believe my son has this issue on his car. With low oil pressure error. Would/should this have been corrected when the main timing chain was replaced?
I had one in last week that had 220k miles on a 2014 engine. Had fuel pressure codes i never was able to duplicate, saw no signs of oil pressure problems in the cam bearings (also resealed the cam bridge) but when the customer picked up THEN he asked, "hey I get an intermittent oil light, did you fix that?" ...well that was the first I heard of it. So here's hoping It all rooted back to the chains.
in my case the problem (very persistent oil pressure warning on idle sometimes with miss fire on all cylinders but not always) was dirty vvt adjuster/magnet! Litle bit of parts cleaner sprayed in each hole and problem is solved!!!
Hi, great video, something to thing about, I have a 2008 2.0 BPY engine, and for over 100K its starting to sound like a diesel. Do you have any suggestions?
Naptown, I am rebuilding my 2.0T TFSI engine and am replacing the balance shafts (Exhaust and Intake) along with the Intermitant sprocket. I have the balance shafts in and they spin freely. When i put the intermitant sprocket on and use the torque specs of 9Nm ( Should be 9Nm, 25 Nm and then 90 degree turn according the manual) and then try to manually hand turn the the sprockets that I timed together it only turns about 90 degree before getting friction. Is this normal and should I continue putting back together. if I back the bolt off and pull the sprocket out a little, it does spin freely. Any advice you have would be appreciated.
Hello i have a question i have a 2008 Audi Q7 4.2 sometimes when i start the vehicle i get the oil pressure light or when i press on gas. Sometimes i wont get any light when i start it could that be the issue? Or just the sensor thanks
please people ! if your 2.0l is giving you the low oil pressure light and setting codes, check your crank case breather pcv system ! it's a $50 dollar fix. if it goes bad then the excessive vacuum enters the crank case and can keep the oil pump from drawing oil due to a negative pressure source . check this first ! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Man your videos are great but I hate when people say chain stretch. Chains don’t stretch they wear just a couple thousands in every link and all of the sudden you have problems
Did that happen to you? What did the adjuster look like? I just replaced the cam bridge chain and the middle seal ring on the solenoid was shot but that was it
@@ianmoore322 yeah I’m still dealing with the resultant damage. the inside of the adjuster itself didn’t have a single identifiable part! it was all bits and prices and metal dust. The stealership that my brother in-law worked for put the whole f’ed up top end back on a new block. Didn’t even check the parts to determine why the first block blew up.. fml
Hello, My Audi A6 model 2013 2.0 TFSI has a strange noise only 1or 2 seconds when I start for first time of the day than everything works fine? What do you think is the issue?
I don't completely understand how this would fix the oil pressure problem. The oil is anyways shooting out the end of the tensioner and through the hole in the guide to lubricate the chain, so what does it matter ( from an oil pressure POV ) if the guide isn't tight up against the tensioner?
Can anyone help me please? We have one Audi A4 from 2008 with 1.8T engine. We have changed everything from oil pump, sensors, oil oil filter except we haven’t changed the chain. When the car is warm and at idle let’s say in a traffic light we get this light on with the code p164D. The engine works perfect and has no noise/issues. Everything is perfect except for this light comes up. Can it still be the chain or something else? Please reply. Thank you
Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/-wICnK56lEs/v-deo.html I've got the same problem, plus getting camshaft related codes. Going to replace the VVT solenoid on the intake as I've seen this problem pop up in a few different videos.
@@ArkECSGO Been super busy and am just starting this project tomorrow, so ping me in a week or two and I should have an answer. I replaced the VVT solenoid which didn't help, but I'm looking at the time and to see if the intake camshaft is worn, which seems to be classic for the low pressure only at hot idle problem.
@@ArkECSGO So I started by looking in the tensioner inspection hole in the side of the lower timing cover and the tensioner is completely extended as far as possible it looks like, and it also looks like some teeth have been sheered off the balance shaft sproket right above the tensioner... Yuck. I'm going to order a timing set, and I'll know more once I've got the full timing cover off. Looks like it's going to be nasty though...
Hey buddy I have the same vehicle and the mechanic replaced the engine with one that was running perfect in another car but now starts but when you push the pedal nothing happens , the scanner said that it’s not communication between throtle body and computer, any ideas , thanks

Where is your home shop located?

Does the worn bearing in the balance shaft cause a loud engine ticking noise as well ?

Do you know of a good aftermarket brand for chains or do you go oem all the time ?
Hi is there a way to make original oil pump stay in bigger pressure mode? If i replace something solid in spring place will this work?
Helloo ,
I saw in the video jack for the red gearbox, I would like to know the model or article number.
Do you have any videos on the charcoal canister for the 2.0
The stretching probably also has to do with one's driving style and how much bhp the block produces.
what was the sound of the engine with this fault? I have this fault code in my car and the engine whirs strangely
I agree, these engines need chain maintenance, just more expensive than than timing belt replacement.
...is this a TDI? I have a 2014 Jetta TDI with 174K miles and oil light occasionally flashes
Can you do some videos on P2279 codes since they are for multiple areas. Thanks for your awesome videos

It was rare at idle hot engine. The parts are made to fit together so it will lose enough pressure to trip the light
