I would say 1-1-1 would be the best to grind DMW, because you don't need to use the DMW skills (at least for the characters) and they're a lot easier to clean up when you're done.

FYI for the Genji Shield, you can attempt this earlier in your run without the Octaslash materia (since its unlocked only much later). You will have to get lucky with the DMW though. Took me about 5 retries (I got super lucky!)
If anyone still trying to grind for DMW Misson 1-1-4 :shinra 100 troops the last sergeant “sergeant major J is broken just stand away from him, he’ll only toss grenades and it ALWAYS miss. You can go afk, watch a movie, walk your dog. Hydrate. Zack will still be okay when you get back.
One thing you should make sure of, before you go to get the Genji Shield, you need to have the Magic Pot Tricks DMW unlocked first (preferably in mission 10-1-3 where you fight the Master Tonberry for the Tonberry DMW as it's a bit more reasonable with it's requests) otherwise, you'll have to do this twice, because the first time you complete it's requests, it'll give you the DMW if you don't have it already.
just wondering is there a ribbon item in this game? i remember always getting one in other ff games to guard against many status effects. some enemies do death and i don't have anything in equipment to guard against that yet. i'm on chapter 9 at the moment.
First of all, I FINALLY FINISHED THE DMW WHEN I WAS JUST FINISHING OFF MUSSIONS I HAVENT COMPLETED FOR THE TROPHY, secondly, when I came across my first magic pot when following this video, I couldn’t get octaslash with 2 octaslash materias and it called me boring then left. So I walk a little forwards to a battle zone or area or whatever and it was a magic pot! What are the chances! But then I couldn’t continue because that first Gil toss ate all my Gil so I had to fail the battle and sell a bunch of trash to do it again. Then I did and finally got the Genji shield. Now I’m SO CLOSE to being as strong or even stronger than Sephiroth in canon. What a lucky day, huh?
Something I found out, don’t execute the move the pot requests until he asks for it, I launched Octoslash too early and he disappeared saying disappointed, so I had to do it again. Very annoying.
Mainly just beat on him and dodge until he dies. If you have Costly Punch, Break Damage Limit, and Break HP Limit, you can boost up your HP and deal massive damage to it, potentially even one-shot it. If you don't have that stuff, you can also equip Zantetsuken materia to make it easier to summon Oden, who can one-shot it. Sadly, a lot of later bosses like this were given Gravity immunity in the Reunion remaster, that didn't have it in the original PSP version. Otherwise, you could just spam Gravity/Graviga to halve its health until you could finish it off.
I can't find this answer. Do you have to be so far in the main story for scenes to show up in the DMW? I'm at Ch. 7 with over 60 hours and Sephiroth is only 50%. Seems off for one of the very first you get.
I have 255 atk with sp turbo and when I hit the magic pot it only does 20k… why doesn’t it hit the 99k damage cap? I’m below my max hp and have genii glove as well. Only done the magic pot 2 times but both times it’s done substantially less than 99k

Is the materia that you're using to deal damage maxed? I had a weird moment where I was only dealing 20-30k, but then it did 99,999 the next attempt. Not exactly sure what controls that.
I don't know if using the Aerith's limit break to make her say "Good luck" right after you said it was intentional or not, but it was good timing nonetheless

It's completely random. The only way to increase the odds of it appearing are to equip the Octoslash materia. Each level the materia gains, the higher the chances. It also stacks, so you can equip multiple Octoslash materia for even better odds.
Lots of health helps, but it's tough at an early stage to make that happen. Run away from the bad breath and the ability where it rains poison. Far, far away. Pepper it with fire spells as it's casting them. If you can stay in its face otherwise, it will rely on its one physical attack, a head smash, which you can learn to avoid as it has a very long windup.
So I’m playing on hard mode and haven’t gotten the buster sword yet. I got the costly punch and have my attack at 255 but when I fight the magical pot and do the costly punch I’m still not doing 99,999 requirements any thoughts?
Does anyone know if the trophy pops still if I get the genji equipment on separate saves? Have gotten the armor, glove and helmet at endgame and realized I have fused my gil toss and got no other steal/mug materias to fuse for gil toss. Is it possible I load up my previous save to get Genji shield specifically?
Are all flashbacks available since you get a character or you have to get to a specific chapter before seeing them all? I ask because, for example, I couldn't trigger a Cissnei flashback until chapter 4

Yes, don't worry about maxing everything out until the end. You can't even get Phoenix until you go to Nibelheim.
Leave your game running on mission 1-1-1 for a few hours and you’ll get it

You aren't doing anything wrong. It's a frustrating part of the game, but it's just what you have to do.

Costly Punch converts your max HP to damage so you need to have the potential for 99,999 HP in order to use it effectively.

If you haven't gotten all the equipment before then yes the system doesn't care which save as long as you obtain every piece.

You won't be able to trigger every single flashback until Chapter 14.

It took 50 freaking hours to 100% the DMW. And, of course, Genesis was the one that I completed last. Seriously, fuck Genesis.
Non of the genji sets are hard to get just time consuming
