I think the visual symbolism is Ren trying to forcibly open the eyes of the "player's" only to acknowledge they still can't see. Finishes with self destruction rather than destroying the player. Highlights how we are incapable of revolution against the malignant institutions that be, we always choose self destruction to protect the money game.
He drew eyes. so the person can see the truth and make choices for himself. He's no long a sheep just flowing the hurd. He raises the guitar to defend himself. Ren represents the greedy in this world.
I think the guitar guy is the “money game” and him drawing eyes on it is like “can you see it now? can you see what im saying?” but when he goes to finally kill it , he realises, “wait, i’ve always been part of the money game”, and so its himself that he pours the gasoline on. idk that’s my thought on it.
Romain Axisa is playing the guitar (his bandmate from The Big Push and also his housemate in Brighton). Amazing lead guitarist, check his solos on Big Push songs (I recommend you watch Wade in the Water cover they did 4-5 years ago, brilliant). Has solo stuff singing and playing too.
This Wade in the Water cover is actually what got me into discovering Ren, Romain and The Big Push a few years ago. It was such an amazing performance that had me instantly hooked to the talents of the group and it's individuals! Never have I ever been so grateful to randomly stumble upon a song in a playlist I was (up to that point) distractively listening to while working, and what an adventure it's been since!
Thanks for asking about Romain. He and Ren have been playing together for several years in The Big Push. It may not be the most intricate guitar solo to play, but imagine playing blind with someone doing things around you're head & face that you can't see. Ren spoke in one of his Twitch episodes about how Romain was practicing this blind.
Yes, you definitely need to watch Money Game 2. Also, if you want to hear Ren’s pure voice (which is beautiful) watch Chalk Outlines (both the version with Chinchilla and the busking version (where I was privileged to be). Enjoy!
Money Game 2 made it on the radio and was previously considered his biggest song to date. It probably didn't hurt that it was also turned into the Luigi Meme and got an even broader audience. A lot of people that see Hi Ren first, won't even understand the She Sells Sea Shells part unless they've seen Money Game 2 first.
My friend, absurd theatre director Rikki Tarascas helped Ren with this early piece. There are a few versions out there. Ren has gone on to direct such great ideas of his own as you can see from Hi Ren and Sick Boi. Very proud
He used the guitar like that as the gun in Screech's Tale too. Also, how he integrated the deep breaths in and out in Sick Boi. I love how he integrates items into what he's doing as well. In some ways it reminds me of Musical Theater with acting ability as well as the musical talents. The way that I interpreted the ending in my own mind. He gave the 'nameless' guitarist eyes so he could see the hypocrisy in the music business, then realized at the last moment that he was just as guilty. Thanks for covering more of Ren's music. I hope you are enjoying the journey!
Hi Ren introduced me and it’s very important to understanding his music, but he is not his illness and this song is a great example of that. This is an excellent reminder of his brilliant mind and creative approach that we love, as well his transparency and vulnerability. But I want to get rid of treating him as the poor brave sick boy. He’s just genius straight up.
Ren spent over a decade living with buskers and performing on the streets while trying to get several bands started so he's pretty much perfected live one-take performances. Trick the Fox is a pop band he was trying to get started a decade ago. Then he did a lot of solo stuff before trying to get The Big Push going with friends - which he's still a member of. But he's made so much stuff, from so many different genres because he's been trying to make up for all the time he missed while being bedridden & sick.
If the big push is still going its about to get *really* going. I keep thinking how much of a noodle twister it's going to be for chinchilla and Sam Tomkins to suddenly be properly famous considering those now famous songs are a few years old. They probably have normal jobs now and got into work one day and someone in the office casually mentions they saw them. Now imagine in like a year when ren yas released the rest of this album and likely done an Adele level Grammy awards show performance of hi ren or whatever else comes out while he is in Canada. And let's be honest, rens gonna be in a movie within 3 years. His music is good? His acting and presence is immense. Personally I see him doing that thing, it's got an acronym. Where you win one of all of them, like a Tony, an Oscar, a Grammy etc. This mfer walked through hell and came out... different. If Harry mack is the Michaelangelo of rap then ren is the davinci. Creativity *and the ability to apply it* across a multitude of spectrums. A true artistic polymath. I've been lucky enough to see Ronaldo and messi, tiger Woods, Usain bolt, michael phelps, Harry mack, and ren in the last 20 years. This is a golden era folks. Be grateful.
If Ren was only a rapper, writer, singer or guitar player he would still be insanely talented. The fact he can do them all at a level rarely seen is truly something to enjoy.

He’s in black, the prisoner is in white… yin/yang… such genius… Money Game 2 continues it… has “she sells sea shells, on the sea shore” which is sampled in “Hi Ren”. There is an absolute classic album within his catalogue. Dearly hope he releases a double Album of these all together on his own independent label. Love Ren. Great reaction dude(s)
Now do Money GamePart 2 pls :), different vibe same chorus. The second verse from that one became more famous than the song and it became a meme. And there is a connection to Hi Ren in that, too.
@@cas9065 :) Np mate, just have been a fan a little longer I guess. Yep, someone made that Luigi meme with that second verse from his song and it went viral (his song came first of course, it is his own lyrics). I think the song has 7M+ views on YT, the original meme has similar numbers, but there are so many variations of it on youtube. There is a funny Eminem one for example: ua-cam.com/video/-W9zpUKfyCU/v-deo.html
On the school topic, Ren is PE for the brain. Mine has been encouraged by Ren to listen, read lyrics, and take notes from reactors like yourself. Wish they taught kids in school who didn't enjoy reading with works of art like Ren.
Maybe even the "neutral guy" who suddenly realised he's no longer "neutral" and needs to self immolate. By opening eyes he's assaulted his captive, and the captive can see what Ren is planning, and Ren suddenly sees himself

Another great reaction. I believe that the guy playing the guitar is Ren's former bandmate from "The Big Push," Romain Axisa. He is an exceptional guitar player and plays various other instruments. Ren and Romain recorded another song together called “French Song.” I love Ren's singing voice, no matter what genre it is. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Oh My Woman," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," "War Pig," Guns of Brixton," and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability.
Love watching your reactions. Haven’t listened to or watched anything from Ren and his cohorts that hasn’t had me intrigued and entertained. He creates like a mad scientist! More please. He explores so many music forms and gives them serious Ren twists. ❤
I feel like I can't just listen to Ren's music, I feel like just listening doesn't do it justice you need to experience the full performance. And one thing about him is that it almost feels like he embraces some form of his psychosis and has turned it into his art form through his ability to just change his flow so comfortably, it is almost like he's moving through personalities conciously
If you want more of Rens singing try his colab with Chinchilla titled 'Chalk Outlines'. Also he does a cover of War Pigs (Black Sabbath) while busking with The Big Push
I think it is his and his cinematographer's (Samuel Perry-Falvey) best work video-wise, amazing single shot. I think they said they did 280 takes on it (including incomplete ones).
He does such amazing job of crafting these performances with great composition, writing, directing, artistic videos, lyrics that make you stop and think.
Thank you both for another fun review. Yea, I also think it is us sleeping in the middle getting eyes. Next time you would like a bit of Ren for the morning, try What you Want. Super fun. But this now cries out for money games Part 2, which has lyrics on the non live video!
He try to open he’s eyes, every thing it’s a reference or poetic what to say the same. Love Sam as the director in this videos really helps to channel he’s lyrics. Love part two of money game too. ❤
Romain is his roommate I believe . They play in the big push busking band and all three are so talented and beautiful people and are bringing so much happiness to a world that has been sad so long. I believe they recently have disbanded but I believe it is because they all now will do great as solo. I think at some point they will all reunite because of their friendship but this is only my opinion as to what I have observed.
One of my favorite songs from Ren.....I just love the blues influence in this on the guitar and vocals. Obviously incredible lyrics, another amazing performance, and another crazy good music video. Everything this guy does is different and at another level.
I'm loving the attention Ren has been getting lately as a fan of him for a couple years now Great video guys, just a quick tip: either reduce the audio on the video you're reacting to or boost your own volume, I'm noticing that when I tune the audio to be a comfortable listen to the song, you two end up at a low whisper where I almost have trouble making out what you're saying
Everyone is part of the money game. He's opening your eyes to what's happening!. Which got more agitated Are you going to look and learn or the ultimate sacrifice? Not you, but him
💯 yes he's only improved on novel approaches to social therapy. Meanwhile I'm believing The Money Game ARG Seven Sins promo is a social experiment to unite us all and create an army of thoughtful outcasts😂❤❤
I see "raincoat Ren" as a representation of the "Money game". The guitar player is also Ren, but as the song goes on he's learning, that's what the eyes mean, he finally sees the system put in place for what it really is. Then burn the system to cinders.
I saw the Whiskey Myers reactions you did and I always like when they get shown some love. Super underrated band in my opinion. They have so many good songs besides Stone and Broken Window Serenade though. For The Kids, Heart of Stone, Trailer We Call Home, Dogwood, Bad Weather just to name a few. Really enjoy the content, new sub
This is just a guess on my part but maybe putting eyes on the masked guy is his way of saying.... open your eyes and look at what's going on around you with the world. Without the eyes, one is allowing everything spoken about in this song to carry on because we're turning a blind eye to it all. Not sure if that makes sense, but it's just a thought
I think in this video Ren represents the World (Earth)... and the guitar player is us, humans destroying it with our money game. It's warning us and tries to open our eyes, but at the end... woosh !
Have you ever wished that you could make a politician that you so strongly disagree with sit down and listen to your opinion, your reason, and feel like if this person weren’t around the world would be a better place? The fantasy of righting so many wrongs with just one sin? In the end he realized that burning down the system would burn himself down as well. Thus he made the choice to be better than his potential victim and rid himself instead. Brilliant Video
If you want to know, symbolism in the meaning, behind video and song, I can only with me to another reactor Nail with that really mind blowing! You should go watch it before you watch money game 2… his name is Shadow Aeternum! He’s a really deep thinker and encourage you to go watch his explanation and breakdown of this entire Artistic performance and the metaphorical meanings ! Enjoyed you guys together here and your Buddy was onto this in the few insights he was thinking!! ❤
Am pretty sure it‘s Romain Axisa, Rens Bandmate from the Big Push. Also an accomplished Musician and fantastic Guitarist - you ought to check him out. Money Game was what hooked me on REN in the first place…🔥🔥🔥 Cheers
It seems to be more about how the “money game” (politics, consumerism, etc) is so destructive, but even if we are held hostage by it, there are things that we can do to rise above like music. Also, the dichotomy that even though we are hostages of the “money game” we are also playing our part in perpetuating it. If we want to blame someone, the first source we need to look at is ourselves and how we are feeding the machine. Once we recognize that we can “burn the system down” by changing our actions and how we interact with it.
if that one guy likes hip hop, i recommend listening to the hunger with him if that have not! It is a rap which is definitely up there (as in, im not a fan of rap at all but even i enjoy it) but you should check it out if you want :D
I'm going out on a limb here, so bear with me.... Ren is Ren....as in, what he himself represents ie lateral thinking, change in the tide of society. He's able to highlight the 'system' from within it, but take an existential approach to communicate it so everyone can appreciate it. The guy playing the guitar is our current complacent society, our politicians, our, for want of a better word 'leaders' playing the melody were all just supposed to dance along to and Ren (like others confronting the norm) is trying to force them to see by drawing eyes. But theyre still blind and will not take off the blindfold despite his hands being free (being willfully ignorant), so Ren will burn down the ones pushing agenda, even if he has to go with it.. I told you to bear with me
Yeah, that's the (sort of) I mentioned but he also talks about how "we denigrate immigrants and then goes into the whole thing about how we are all immigrants and how the US was colonized by the British who were colonized by the Romans and the Saxons" so, It's our system which is led by the USA (especially when it comes to the Money Game) I don't think you are that far out on a limb and I'd join you out there if we weren't supposed to be in the middle
To me I agree masked person represents society and the ending where he goes to burn down society for its ills but then realizes we are all to blame and that he is also to blame so torches himself.
Ren is single-handedly keeping the owners of dingy basements in Brighton, afloat with rental fees lol. (Or hell maybe they break in)
I think the visual symbolism is Ren trying to forcibly open the eyes of the "player's" only to acknowledge they still can't see. Finishes with self destruction rather than destroying the player. that is also my understanding exactly
the end is someone at the of their tether...fed up with the machine.. the monk who set himself on fire in desperation

Dude I've been dying to see some reactions from Hardys album that dropped from you. You're starving me bro 🤣
He wanted him to see what's coming! He didn't bat him... cause he couldn't see it coming!

Now you need to react to Money Game pt.2, Blind Eyed, and ChalkOutlines.
Great reaction! 👏👏👏
Am pretty sure it‘s Romain Axisa, Rens Bandmate from the Big Push. Also an accomplished Musician and fantastic Guitarist - you ought to check him out. Money Game was what hooked me on REN in the first place…🔥🔥🔥
Cheers
It seems to be more about how the “money game” (politics, consumerism, etc) is so destructive, but even if we are held hostage by it, there are things that we can do to rise above like music. Also, the dichotomy that even though we are hostages of the “money game” we are also playing our part in perpetuating it. If we want to blame someone, the first source we need to look at is ourselves and how we are feeding the machine. Once we recognize that we can “burn the system down” by changing our actions and how we interact with it.
🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥 #ren
Thomas Shelby kills it on this one
If you really want to hear is sing voice watch him and Sam Tompkins "I shot the Sheriff" and also watch is interview on Catching Coffee with Ren

If you really want to hear him sing check out The cover “I shot the sherif” with The Big Push. Best cover id ever heard
I told you to bear with me
The sleeping middle that he is also part of.
Yeah, that's the (sort of) I mentioned but he also talks about how "we denigrate immigrants and then goes into the whole thing about how we are all immigrants and how the US was colonized by the British who were colonized by the Romans and the Saxons" so, It's our system which is led by the USA (especially when it comes to the Money Game)
I don't think you are that far out on a limb and I'd join you out there if we weren't supposed to be in the middle
@@DyvmSlormlol my limb is cracking, but MG3 will offer more limbs to grab onto and I'm so excited
To me I agree masked person represents society and the ending where he goes to burn down society for its ills but then realizes we are all to blame and that he is also to blame so torches himself.
He just doesn't give you an option to not to pay attention when he is performing...
REN’s “Bring out the gimp” song lol
You have to do Money Game Part II
There's a part 2 to this song.
Watch him sing with The Big Push if you want to see him sing more
You gotta check out money game part 2
Aren't you actually "Q" from Impractical Jokers??
