I wonder if any of the starlink payload simulators would have cameras and transmitters to see what it all looks like, and maybe used to inspect the ship before reentry.
This would be the coolest
0:13
They better
Lets light these candles!
It would be interesting if they really end up switching to a metallic heat shield, or a metallic heat shield in combination with active cooling. The metallic tile tests seem to indicate that ceramic tiles have more problems than they originally anticipated.
Sounds doubtful. Metal tiles are invitation of heat into body.
@@hrissan Search for "metallic TPS" on Google. There was NASA research on it, and it was planned to be used on the VentureStar SSTO (Lockheed Martin's projected Space Shuttle successor which later got cancelled).
I think it will continue to have ceramic tiles, tho it might be a hybrid with maybe they'd think to tile the whole ship to reduce the boil off further and the probability of in-space space debris strikes causing catastrophic failure
That would be cool if they put a couple of PTZ cameras with starlink antenna on a couple of those dummy satellites to view the starship and part of the re-entry.
Unless they've got attitude control on the dummies the camera movement will start the satellite rotating. Space is awkward for things like that. Probably best to have a 360 camera like they use on those buoys, no moving parts = no inertia.
didn't miss this update good job
Ryan & Co: Excellent details and explanations of improvements and testing plans for IFT7! You guys really blow the other Starship channels out of the water when it comes to the nerdy details 😊
Wow so much great info shared by SX about mission tests and objectives. This is how it should have been. SX is an amazing organization.
Great information about the pressurization of the booster prior to movement. I have never heard that before, thanks.
Well, it's basically a very large soda can...
Ryan, you are my favorite presenter for this information. You have superb delivery and timing. Keep it going!!
Great update!
Remember when we thought there was no chance this was NET February. Thank you Space X
Exciting week!
Really really well done, Ryan! Thanks!
Ryan and NSF, y'all rock! Peace 🤘 🍻 💨
Excellent coverage, as usual.
Nice to see you mentioning some of the other 'geniuses' that work at SpaceX, it's time to shift focus towards many of the other experts that work at Spacex and make this system work the way it does.
Until lauch day I absolutely will have "Go for catch" echoing in my dream while at the same time having "Booster off-shore divert" playing in my nightmares.
Good grief! So much progress! I can’t believe the dummy Starlinks! Let’s fly Block 2!#wenflight7patch
I love the new intro!
Exceptional update ✨
The bloke just has the best presentation voice & this website (unlike many others) is jam packed with awesome information that thankfully contains NO REPETITION!!
Truly a great website that doesn’t try to bambozzle u with too much scientific jargon which is terrific for laymen like myself. Definitely worth subscription to the site. Greatly appreciated
This a great channel!
That new intro was FIRE 🔥!! Keep it up nsf!
Thank you!
Excellent reporting
Wow! Great video…
Good job Ryan!🦅
THANK YOU
I thought that SpaceX's 2024 progress was unreal. It looks like 2025 is going to result in a tremendously increase in progress.
15:50 "SpaceX is testing the idea of active calling on this flight again"
Again? Did they test the active cooling on the previous flight?
In the early days of starship they wanted to use active cooling but they abandoned the idea. They are testing the idea again.
@@viciousspud8620 That's my point, back then I don't think it ever passed the "idea phase" and get to the test flight.
The QD cover possibly requires internal water spray cooling to protect the QD.

Who here is born after 1990? I hope our generation is just as excited as the older ones!!
I only wish. Born early 80's. Hope I live long enough to see us go to Mars and beyond.
@OhShiitakeMushrooms you will, brother. My guess is within the next 5-6 years!
Oh even more so. 2001 is my year. I know the internet is full of insanity like flat earthers and people spewing nonsense like “We shouldn’t go to space, we have problems here on earth” and “Space is for billionaires who want to escape earth”, but in reality, the new generation is just as excited and engaged as ever in space travel, and when we land on the moon again, the public view on the whole will change completely
@@Supac617 That's not going to happen. SpaceX is under contract for a lunar landing vehicle, and that's certainly not ready. Then there's a lot more that has to be sorted, namely the launch window, the return window, etc. Optimal launch windows occur about every 26 months. The shortest missions possible would be 1.1-1.8 years (total mission time), but those missions would require fast transit and a lot of energy for the orbital transfers. Lower energy missions would last 2 or more years longer. In either case, you need a lot of food, a lot of energy generation in transit and while on Mars, energy to get back into Martian orbit, etc. Then there's all the oxygen that has to be produced and carried. Where's the fuel for return coming from? Then there's all the training/practice, test flights, etc. None of that has happened yet. And SpaceX cannot do it alone.
Maybe it could happen in 10-15 years. Maybe. I'll bet 20 years is a more reasonable guess. "Colonization" of Mars? That's not going to happen in the next 30-40 years.
@@robinseibel7540 Yea, I'd guess 20 years just for the first trip. Colonization 40-50 years. Maybe.
I feel like a super fan being here so early
We're all doomed
Your a card Ryan well done great update👌🇦🇺

Sr. Principal Mars Landing Engineer. That's a sweet job title.
The space industry is poised to welcome skilled professionals from the traditional oil and gas sectors, creating exciting new opportunities for growth and innovation.
These individuals are accustomed to working under high pressure and managing difficult gases, as well as navigating large and complex infrastructures with extensive automation. For a worker experienced in drilling 5 km deep oil wells on a platform 500 km offshore, constructing a space rocket launch facility feels like a simple task.
The hot staging ring looks a but different.
Is it just me?
Maybe it is integrated this time.
Has anyone seen it on and/or iff?
Looking forward to it.
I'd like to know for instance what exactly that loadspreader is doing at the site to help prepare the vehicle for launch. It's moving dirt, but for what purpose exactly?
And what does "HSR" mean?
@@MrX-zz2vk hot staging ring HSR, it's the connecting piece between the booster and the ship.
@corrinastanley125 Thanks, that's right. Brain fart on my part.
But what does the loadspreader do with the HSR since it was already attached to the booster several days ago?
@@MrX-zz2vk it will remove the HSR from the booster. It may be to work on the gridfin actuators or perhaps sensors or cameras. They have done this in the past.
@corrinastanley125 so LS will R&R the HSR for PAO? Got it
Nothing says Christmas like a frosty rocket booster.
Weird there's still going to be a hot stage adapter. Seems they've had time to work that out.
They're still using a block 1 booster. Any change to the hot staging arrangement won't happen until at least block 2.
@KeandeLacy And there's what, 2 more block 1 boosters? I get that they won't re-fly the one they caught.
Blue Origin sent an email saying New Glenn is scheduled for launch no earlier than Friday, Jan 10th. The launch window opens at 1 AM ET for three hours. See their news section in the About tab of their website.
What’s the latest on 10th for the launch? I been reading a few comments expressing concern about a nasty weather system heading towards Boca that might be an issue for a launch on 10th but forecasts can change. Has that weather front changed direction or is it still a threat for the 10th? I really hope not because it would be pretty cool to have IFT-7 and New Glenn both launching on the same day.
can we have a weekly lc-36 update for new glenn? :D
Not yet. But I can offer you our monthly Space Coast Flyovers? Plenty of LC-36 updates in those!
@@DPodDolphin fair point
i wish blue origin was more open to cameras, thats really the only thing they need: more openess/pr
I'm curious. Has anyone counted up the number of Raptors which have flown and the number which have failed during flight? I think it would be pretty interesting, given that the full-flow staged combustion engine was thought to be too difficult or even impossible outside of laboratory conditions before SpaceX came along and made one.
Yeah
Let’s go IFT-7! Yes, I said “IFT.” Suck it Ryan! 😂
they will probably not move the chopsticks out until after flight seven
Date and time of launch please 🙏
Is he the son of one of the members of "Neds Atomic Dustbin"? Bravo anyway. I'm 51 😀
Seems the only delay may be the weather !
Suuuuup nerds
Starfish to fly is good .
I want to thank the good soul that gave me a free subscription. 10 thousands of my best thankyou´s to whoever
Why was the whole of US dealing with fog that night?
I didn't expect Ryan to talk faster than R2D2....
This intro has "The cake is a lie" vibes
is it tomorrow?
when it will start?
right now

Seeing the launch of Falcon 7. I was encapsulated, extremely so happy & glad tht everything went well during lift-off.
Plus, the highlights when Falcon 7 so auspicious to return to its Droneship.
Fascinating 🎊✨️
Thanks HEAVENS 🌟

Light the rockets already. But make it SAFE ABOVE ALL !!!
Trebuchet @1:55 ?
It's been there for four years. Most of the non-joke speculation indicates it belongs to Lab Padre.
Your sounds great, interesting
Way too many details for me, I just want to see the thing fly 😄
IFT-7 prediction: Successful launch, booster will be caught. Ship will RUD immediately after touching water though.
Yeah thats now the ship works
I mean if sx intended starship to land in the water (large scale/ long term) starship would look like a boat! Excitement guaranteed!
The reason the ship has to land on water (and get destroyed) is because it is only licensed to land on water - this time. Besides, there is no way to catch it with the tower. To do that the ship needs hooks like the booster (to land on), and it can't do so while the booster is still between the chopsticks. The booster has to have time to be made safe, to then place it on a stand and moved it away before the ship can try to land. That in turn means it has to get to orbit and remain there for some hours.
I've missed a video or two.... What are those "fins" at the base of the booster for?
If there's a video, I'd appreciate a link please - thank you.
Probably to make the booster better resemble TinTin's ship?
Imagine if it makes orbit on the 8 th try
👍
No comments about the reused Pi Raptor Engine? I mean the number, no the fact of reuse. SpaceX / Elon seems to like interesting numbers...
YESSS FINALLY
Does Elon consider this a “block 2” ship, or is that more of a…community note? ;)
Where's Jack? Come back Jack. We miss you!
When do we think SpaceX will start ship queuing in orbit in prep for the Mars journey and how many ships do we think will be going on that journey? I would think a few for redundancy, increase success rate?
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
At 1:53 in the video, just to the left of the Yamaha ad... Is that a trebuchet??? Not really a "spin launch" but fun.

Hey, is this a Dutchsinse video or what ? He uses this intro a lot.....
The premier intros are randomly chosen by UA-cam not the channel itself
So they spent all the HLS money on building a StarLink launcher. Someone call DOGE
The ”Starlink Launcher” is more or less the same as the HLS except HLS has a crew compartment that they are already working on
Why dont they cover the launch mount with the heat tiles?
This issue has been addressed many times as people have also suggested tiles on the OLM legs mm . Basically the tiles are intended to withstand the compressed atmosphere on reentry which causes them to heat up. They would be shredded by the high heat and thrust energy from the raptors. Look at what those raptors did to concrete which was designed to handle high heat on ITF-1?!
Your intro is the same as The Why Files
It’s chosen randomly by UA-cam
Very longwinded. In one paragraph sum up so people can see whats going on. then skip out of the vid or stay and listen to the word salad

I think that the word sneaked isn't correct but the actual word is snuck . I've notified this is quite common these days and it's a bit irritating . Proper wording is important for your videos to be credible!
What? 2 bananas this time?. Is P2P going to start before 2029 Gwynne ?.

Can we just launch Elon Musk into space? 😂
You are a very good presenter. And rather cute.
So will the "Starlink satellite simulators" for this flight look like actual PEZ candies?
Will the payload be peanut the squirrel
