To Zola's point, it just wasn't Maradona: The entire league was HUGE back then. The quality of players in Serie A from 1983 through 2008 was astounding. The competition was beyond top level. We'll never see it again.

He wanted a team that loved him, and that reminded him of his homeland, and he got it at napoli, and without maradona no one would ever of heard of napoli as a team.

As good as Maradona was, the Divine Ponytail reinvented the No. 10 position into a "9.5", at least 30 years ahead of time.
Defensive players need some recognition when it comes to best ever....for me it would have to be Maldini or Beckenbauer. Mentions going out to Baresi and Rio as well.

@@brentinnes5151 the number 10 position is the most "spectacular" but not necessarily the best. A team can play without a number 10, but they can't play without a defense.
I remember Zola playing in USA 1994 WC, he was great.
