First off, we appreciate your opinion and perspective and this was a well produced video that does highlight some aspects of Ruckus that are unique enough so as to be inherently divisive. Unique characteristics tend to be divisive but sometimes innovation requires it. We didn’t set out to make Ruckus to be exactly like what already existed. We set out to make a highly customizable truck that can have multiple characteristics changed quickly and efficiently from moment to moment.
I would say that that particular aspect is something I’d want to highlight in contrast to what you spoke of regarding firm bushings. The maneuverability and fun you spoke of enjoying on Ruckus at lower settings and lower speeds is precisely one aspect of the Ruckus design philosophy. Giving insanely nimble slow-to-medium speed maneuverability and carving. The ADT can then be adjusted to a slightly higher combo when that desired ride experience shifts to something a bit more medium to high speed and if someone has a straight away ahead and wishes to push further with some assurance of risk reduction they can crank it up further.
The point you raised about switching between multiple boards the way reviewers do and huge collectors do is a fair point also. Ruckus becomes part of you the longer you commit to it and figure it out but if you’re someone who likes to switch between boards often, or are a reviewer of boards, that process is going to be regularly interrupted in ways that are totally different than someone who has maybe a Ruckus and a mini only and learns to make Ruckus their main longboard.
Hopefully you enjoyed the flex and curvature of the deck and our latest FOC 3,0 esc. Hope you continue to play with Ruckus and find some settings you enjoy to switch between. Thanks for you video.

@@evtechstevenI like the video game controller analogy you used actually but my thing is that I think we made the equivalent of a video game controller without lag and hyper precision when ADT is turned off due to the 3 x bushing setup in each truck. Which removes some of the slop and dead zone area seen in some channel trucks near the center point. This is with ADT turned off.
However, sensing that the average rider may not like the feelings of such precision under foot immediately (like switching from a regular mouse to a precision mouse to paint) the hydraulics allow riders while adapting to the board to offset for that level of precision by introducing more counter measures until they’re more ready to handle that level of hyper precision under foot.
ADT therefore offers several functions simultaneously. 1) A new rider can use it while adapting to the DKP-like hyper mobility when both are set to zero in order to get more accustomed slowly to the board and find their own sweet spot. 2) It can allow for dramatically different ride characteristics at the click of a dial. A recent situation I found myself in was riding on a mostly straight lake front trail that eventually meets a super busy pedestrian boardwalk where people, kids, dogs, etc are everywhere. I had my ADT turned up higher for most of that trail ride but once I saw the crazy crowds I pulled over, clicked them down, and maneuvered through that pack like it was nothing. 3) The third aspect is having an additional tool in your tool kit to fight back against a wobble once a wobble feel begins. There’s no way to stop what initially causes a wobble-like sway from occurring if it’s human/terrain initiated but what that lag / muddy feel you described does do is give you more time to regain control by slowing down the board’s ability to violently sway side-to-side in increasing speed. Sensing and learning to trust and work with this correction takes some time after years of hard wiring from riding more basic designs but once you recognize it and learn how to use it the peace of mind is freeing.
@@evtechsteven if the lag is consisten u can adapt to it and the issue i understood from the vid is that u will have to pay a bit extr5a for an unnecesary option of dampers wich is debatable
Steve excellent video man I can definitely understand your perspective. I have my ADT setting on 1&2 but my biggest issue with the trucks are how difficult it is to change rebound bushings!! I’ve watched the UA-cam video from Propel but in real life scenario it takes a considerable amount of force to secure the spring to the trucks. I can’t see another way but force but maybe you can give me some tips?
The comparison to the motorcycle dampening is really interesting, also I didn't know about the oil system in the dampener but that makes a LOT of sense. Thanks for doing the research and this honest review
I have ridden motorcycles from the age of 17 I’m now 51 . Now a steering damper works every time you go round a corner or ride unstable road etc. Anything that makes the bars move left or right if you were just to lean the bike wouldn’t go round the corner you have to apply pressure to the bars for this to happen various amounts depending on speed and damper setting the faster you go the less they move and the less the damper is having to travel through its full movement but is still working . This is and can be a life saver and result in a smoother predictable more fun faster ride if that’s what you want . As with the ruckus I get what they are trying to do 100% and I will have mine very shortly it may be over engineered that’s half the reason I bought it and it looks so cool ! Maybe Propel will release softer bushings in the future or have you tried their softest bushings this would definitely make a difference also did you play with the preload on the rebound springs ? So you mention the lowest setting you can’t feel the damper slowing things down as much ,that is exactly what an adjustable damper is supposed to do bingo and at high settings most amount of damping least responsive harder to manoeuvre for straighter lines and speed .
At the end of the day you have ridden it I havnt as yet but I understand there design concept and why they have done it and having ridden motor cycles for a long time with damper and e-skateboards getting speed wobbles it ticked a box . Reality of owning and riding one will be different !

You don't want to be agile at high speed. If you don't ride at 35 then don't turn on the dampeners. But if you commute like i do and ride 10 miles at full speed this is useful. Then when i ride around town i can just click to reduce.

This is really disappointing :( I really like the look of this board but was never really excited about the damper trucks. I have been trying to decide between this and the Acedeck z3 and I really liked the flexible BVR deck and just the general look of this board. I wish they just sold the deck an enclosure like the do with the endeavour line so I could just go DIY and put something like the Acedeck 2 in 1 gear drive, either some 3 link or cnc TKP trucks, some molicel p45b's and a vesc.
i feel like I conquered speed wobbles a long time ago by riding almost daily with super loose trucks + regularly snowboarding. I completely agree that speed wobbles are not a problem to be solved by some gimmicky technical solution, but through leg and core strength and riding experience. There is still a chance I might go with the Ruckus, as I said before I do thing it's gorgeous, and I'm a sucker for that sort of thing but I am leaning more towards the z3, I just wish it had a more flexible deck and that they made a version with a non top mounted battery.
Absolutely agree to the review. The board is unreasonably over engineered, high quality bushings would basically resolve the issue that this system tries to resolve, but without so many additional parts. But props to designers for making it look so damn cool

Did you notice any problems with motor stutter and synchronization at lower speeds? I have no fine speed control 0-13 mph and the board rides far better in “sensorless” mode.
I did find a lot of stutter when I hold still on a slope. The motors seem to rock back and forth like crazy. I'vnt experienced any stutter at lower speed though.
As much as I appreciate the ingenuity, this board and a few others are going in a direction that is further away from the traditional longboard feel. They somewhat fall in the category of transportation than traditional longboard. It's stable, heavy, comfortable etc. and sure this can be great as a transportation method, it's just not as fun. Longboarding and skateboarding is inherently somewhat uncontrollable and risky. You overcome these things by making mistakes, getting hurt and learning from them. If you just eliminate wobbles at high speed and didn't give yourself the time to learn how to balance, shift weight and control your board overall, you may still hit an obstacle of some sort while going high speed and won't know what to do under those circumstances; wobbles are not the only thing that causes injuries.
Yes, it is a bit tricky with electric skateboards because they go 30mph, 50mph, 80mph and even faster. At these speeds, it's deadly when accidents happen, whether it's due to your own lack of experience, slow reaction time to obstacles, or just something completely out of your control like faulty hardware. With this in mind, I get why there is a market for eskate as a transportation method, but it's still very niche. Now, the question I have is that will this dampener setup NEVER wobble under ANY circumstances? If so, then sure, it can be useful as a transportation device as mentioned above.
I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a truck anti--wobble device that doesn't change the characteristics of the steering EXCEPT WHEN THEY WOBBLE.

Excellent review! Does this dampening tech actually improve the ride? From what I am seeing it does not. I think the systems claim to fame is it prevents speed wobbles. I don’t think it does.
It does, at the cost of carving ability
So it does prevent wobbles. But you are gonna have one hell of a leg-day workout. And it the board feels sluggish. But, all you care about going straight line and fast, then it's actually pretty good (so far).
