Starting off with one of the most beautiful, but possibly the most difficult shots in golf... The Flop Shot!
*Coach Nathan Leonhardt is a former Tour Player that specializes in Short Game.
**A few extra points to go along with this video:
    1) If the ground is rock hard, less bounce would be needed. If the ground is soft, more bounce is needed. The ground was about a medium firmness in this video and I used a 12° bounce lob wedge.
2- Acceleration is key, just like in bunkers.
    3- TRUST IT!

where I play, Spain, during the summer the fairways are hard like cement. If I want to flop there a ball then with that kind of bounce you use ( 12 ) the club will bounce on the hard ground and the leading edge will hit the ball topping it

I use 4 degree bounce. Never used a 12. You just adjust bounce depending on the course conditions. So use a low bounce and you’ll be fine.

Great info. I do this with my 56*13 too. The bounce really pops it straight up

I dont know where you play but if you would try to play a flop shot in Spain during the summer with your 12 bounce wedge you would duff/thin every shot, specially if you will keep the weight on your left foot.On a hard lie your club will bounce and it will expose the leading edge that will hit the ball. You need instead a very low bounce wedge to play in South Europe durung the summer.High bounce wedges for flop shots are ok only in soggy conditions during the winter in North of Europe

Well, I personally wouldn’t duff or thin every shot since I know how to manipulate the bounce to make it work. But I understand what you mean. There’s no question that firm, tight lies need less bounce. And vice versa. Thankfully they make plenty of bounce/grind options to choose from.
High bounce is also not only good in soggy conditions. I understand that if your goal is to only hit flop shots and no other shots, then lowest amount of bounce would be necessary on firm, tight conditions. But most golfers are hitting a lot of other shots around the green (like bunker shots) that they may benefit from more of less bounce.
If you travel, or if your climate changes a lot during the year, I always recommend having 2 lob wedges, low bounce and mid-high bounce. Then you can play anytime, anywhere.

Nice man. Are u hitting an inch or two behind golf ball, like its a bunker shot?

    • @TDA_golf
      @TDA_golf  2 роки тому +1

Yeah exactly, about 1” roughly. Hitting too far behind it will have the club bouncing back up too early which can lead to skulls.

Seve said he put his weight on back foot more. Maybe it's a feel thing, seems like your weight hangs back here also

Don’t you want a club with little bounce hitting flop from a tight lie though? Instead of using a higher bounce like 10/12 degree, I like using 3degree bounce from a tight lie, I only use a 10/12degree bounce from a thick rough lie

      Great content though!

@@JohnnyDunn thanks for the question! With this way of hitting a flop shot I am using the bounce to help launch the ball straight up, as opposed to only using the loft of the club. When you drive the head into the ground like I'm showing here, 3deg of bounce will most likely dig too much into the ground and not allow for much bounce to pop the ball up. Now, there are times when you're on extremely firm turf when you will need less bounce to pull off the same shot.

@@TDA_golf thank you! And understandable makes sense! So if you have ball on say real tight lie fairway or fringe, but need to chip / flop it a lil bit but the turf isn’t extremely firm kinda soft but again on tight lie, would you still recommend the mid to higher bounce? I personally feel confident in using 3degree for any tight lies even if it is lil softer than firm, i really only like using the mid to high bounce in deep rough but i know its preference just wanted to hear your thoughts

To be honest, I used to always use 4deg bounce when I was competing, so there is no one way to answer that for everyone. In an ideal world, I would prefer people try it with a few different options and see which works best for them. Most of the time though I would get people into a little higher bounce unless they are really good with a wedge. When you are really good with a wedge you can manage this shot with all different types of bounce.
