The main reasons it hasn’t happened yet is probably JK not feeling it, possible disrespect to the movie cast and crew, and no one feeling ready to take on such a massive production. It would be one of the biggest shows ever made even if it sucked.
I couldn't agree more. She has this gigantic backstage knowledge about every character in the story. She knows the wizarding world in every detail. And for that I admire her.

I can definitely see HP as a TV series in like 10/15 years when the movies have been around for quite a while. Because there are scenes that the movies do not have, that I would like to see. Though, I cannot see anyone other than Alan Rickman as Snape
definitely. Would be even better if they'd add a bit of additional HP lore, like some more depth of character origins, or just additional stuff the Trio does during their magic years. There's hardly any wizard-school-stuff in the movies except for "its not leviosa is leviooooosa", whereas the books have plenty and it is so fun to read about both their daily school stuff as well as the main plot
In the beginning when Jo said that the books couldn't have been filmed scene by scene because they would have had 12 hour films, immediately I screamed "I would sit in a theater to watch all 8 films 12 hours long." I would be okay if the films were that long, because Harry Potter is amazing.
One big problem with making the first 3-4 movies was that the actors were children. And some law in England said that children could only work as actors for a few hours each day. I've heard the number 4-4,5 hours each day. So they could not spent 12 hours every day making the film. The director was under a terrible time schedule.
People have heard many lies about the Harry Potter stories origin. One lie being: Jo Rowling was on a delayed train after a day-out house hunting in 1990 when the story of Hary Potter popped into her head, fully formed. I know this because Jo Rowling did not create the stories in the first place. She claimed that, at the time of writing the story, she was suicidal. She has amazed everyone who has heard her lies about the story. That steered her prey into thinking how brilliant an author she is, writing one novel after another - until the series of Harry Potter stories was published. Not once has Jo Rowling told the true origins of Harry Potter. I know this because I am the original creator of the stories that inspired Jo Rowling to begin writing the long-winded novels of the Harry Potter series. I began a story that became the Harry Potter series in 1978 while I was a soldier in the Australian Army. After leaving the force on which I based my wizard boy series, I spent several years creating the artwork for the stories, which began as a series of storyboards. My wizard story was to become "The best story for children, for the film". The reason for that was I was a cinema projectionist when I began to create the story. Over the years in the Army, I drew the artwork for the scenes in my primary story. It became so long that to make it into a movie would have resulted in a production that would have been about 12 hours long. That caused me to divide my storyboard into five sets for which I created titles. A visiting friend, Alan Page, picked up my binder-ring file that contained the storyboard drafts. Alan opened the file and moved it over my lap. While I sat in my lounge chair, Alan began pointing at things and asking questions about my stories in that file. He got me to read aloud all five title names, then asked me if there were any more title names. I thought his question was rude and imposing into what was very private information, so I thought of two more title names and read them out to him - after having written them down beneath the other title names on my note work on the Harry Potter series. A picture can present a story in itself. I had many drawings in my drawing file. I had hundreds of stories set in the form of storyboards - all with written names of the main characters and creatures and features in them. The delayed-train Jo Rowling speaks of having been on, then thought up the story of Harry Potter was not real. Jo Rowling has cooked her golden goose. What I began to create as a story to inspire children grew to suit an older audience over the years I was in the Army. After my military service years, the story developed with drawings I drew and added to my stories. At some time, my design and story files got stolen from my home. Years afterwards, I was bewildered from not knowing what had happened to my work of about 30 years. I was without any project to further- develop, as my stories became novels, productions or products made that were once my inventions. Jo Rowling is nothing to me but a well-paid plagiarist who habitually lies to keep the unsuspecting readers and followers of her dastardly well-played-out plan she has been casting out over the world's people since day one when she first made an ugly-duckling appearance in front of news media. Quacking about how poor she was as her mother was dying, she kept her biggest secret to herself. The reader may find THE LIAR BIRD poem of interest. I wrote it in a depressed state of mind after many months of heartache and anguish. You can find it at jkrawling.tumblr.com. The stories I storyboarded grew long as I added drawings to them. They had to be segmented and transformed into a series of smaller stories. That meant that Jo Rowling had to write about each drawing's elements and the storylines presented within those drawings I had drawn. I accept Jo Rowling has put a lot of effort and time into writing up my stories of the Harry Potter series - but I am the original creator of much of the stories content. Because of the theft of my work on those stories, followed by plagiarism, I am not known for my authorship of what took me about 17 years to create. That is an enormous loss to me personally and financially. I accept my loss, but Jo Rowling is simply a well-paid plagiarist, in my view.

These were the finest books ever written. Made my childhood a million times better. I’ve waited to feel the same profound connection with a book again, but never could. I wonder why that was. This is very nostalgic for most of us and will forever be a part of the good old days.
I love that story about Evanna, I love that she's just one of us, just a Potterhead who wondered into an open audition and became a part of the this world that we love. I'm glad one of us manged to achieve that dream.
Her characters' depth is inspiring. You could feel her sorrow while talking over their demise from the same pen that gave them life. That's inspiring too.
In my opinion, in the books he was a bit more aggressive and savage, especially with people he hated(snape), in films he was milder, also portrayed smarter and more capable, in books he more often relies on others. Looks in my imagination also differ quite a bit, in books he's thinner, hair is crazy, eyes are greener. In films he's just average.
Yesh... Ron was Harry's best friend, and in the movies they interact so awkwardly? It's like Hermione's the only one keeping them together, which is the opposite in the books
My personal opinion people saying Ron Weasley was done dirty in the movies.. for someone who has read the books.. I completely disagree when people say that.. now when people say Ginny Weasley was done dirty in the films I completely agree! But Ron Weasley in films in my opinion he doesn’t get enough credit and people say he doesn’t have enough stand out moments or his character to shine I completely disagree so while yes I would of added more to his character but I think the performance by Rupert Grint made up for that because he played Ron Weasley so incredibly well and was still a great loyal friend to Harry and Hermione and he was the glue to the Trio and kept them together! I didn’t mind the comedy their added to his character it wasn’t just butt of jokes like Finn from the Star Wars sequel trilogy.. Ron in movies was fine really good just not perfect but you could say same thing about Harry and Hermione you can nitpick anything from any character in these movies.. just my opinion compare to some other books to movie adaptation Harry Potter was done perfect and I don’t think the TV series is going to capture that magic! Just my opinion 😊
@@nont18411 I know man. Hermione was almost a Mary Sue at that point. She did do some wrong things- they still didn't take out the part where Hermione attacks Ron with those birds. But other than that, she was made to be *too* perfect.
He ruined the movies for me. I love Ron. I hate Hermione. Hermione is a beeyotch! I don't mind her intelligence, I mind her stuck-up, bossy personality.

To be honest, I still think Steve Kloves hated Ron as a character. Kloves spent most of the films turning Ron into a walking punch-line, and only gave him a few good moments at the end because Rowling made it crystal-clear in the last book that Ron was always more than just a joke. It would also explain why Steve Kloves gave so many of Ron's best moments to Hermione, and why the films made Hermione Ron's role as Harry's closest friend and ally. Seriously, Rupert Grint deserved better than the meagre characterisation he was given.
and dont get me started on how horrendous he made Ginny,, i have always visualized her to be a strong girl, stronger than hermione perhaps. she grew up with SIX boys and had to constantly be overshadowed by them. she felt merely misunderstood by everyone around her, hence everything that happens in the second book. then in the fifth book, you really get to see Ginny's badass side, you really get to see that she is one badass woman like her mother, she was funny, brave and not afraid of anything, not to mention that she has a very strong personality. and that the reason why Harry fell in love with her. In the movie Ginny is just this girl who is obsessed with this famous teenage boy. i was, and still am, very disappointed in how Ginny was made to look in the movies.
At least Rupert Grint had it better than Bonnie Wright (who played Ginny). Bonny Wright only had just *two* moments in the whole series where she was actually given something to work with, one when she told Draco to leave Harry alone- and two when she shouted at the whole Quidditch team to "SHUT IT!" Those were the only moments where she was like Ginny from the book. Otherwise she was an extremely awkward human being and Bonnie Wright, even if she didn't look it, must've been bored out of her mind when doing the role of Ginny.
@@nazsherif5514 I understand what you mean; although I think Male Gaze is more to do with female characters being heavily sexualised on the pretence that the audience is a heterosexual male (hence, male gaze). It's especially frustrating, considering that Rowling used the book characters to subvert those expectations; Ron actually fits the mould of 'love interest' for the lead (since he is the emotional support), whereas Hermione has the sidekick thing of having talents that the main hero does not. The films mangling of the characters completely wrecked all those subverted tropes.

@@angeliqueroux3017 I knew Dumbledore was gay when I read the books. It's obvious that he and Grindlewald were lovers. People who clearly didn't know the books very well and had never seen her interviewed before jumped all over her (and continue to do so) for absolutely no reason. Yes, it was bloody obvious that Dumbledore was gay in the books!
I agree with them that Rupert hasn't got much cred for his acting, but I think it IS about the script. It actually did make a prat out of him more than once. He's not the complex person in the films that we meet in the books. He's almost never unpleasant in the films. And I too believe it's unfair, because when given a chance he's always proved why he was casted. The row between him and Harry in the last film was almost breathtaking. I also think they took the Lavender Brown character a few miles too far. She really was silly enough in the books without exaggerating.
Ps. Speaking of wich, in film seven I really missed Ron silently crying after breaking the locket, and Harry admitting that most evenings he and Hermione didn't even talk to each other. Their naked vulnerabarity really brought dept to it all. And instead Ron was supposed to shrug his shoulders smile and move on. So one dimentional compared with the book. A lost opportunity.

Lidia F the thing about Dan was that his character was much harder to express. As jk rowling mentioned, Harry is the eyes through which we view the world. You don't get much of an idea of what kind of character Harry is in the books, so imagine how hard it must have been for Dan to make him more "real"..I personally think he did a tremendous job. 🙌
I think it's funny that JK thinks, Ron is way easier to love than Hermione... I always get the impression that Ron is the most underrated character of the Trio. And as Harry is the protagonist and Hermione and Ron are his best friends, most people like all three of them.
@@jaydee4697 I read books and I can honestly say I didn't like Ron. But according to some fans only people who didn't read books don't like Ron. But those who read books are supposed to like him. Yes he had good moments but he had moments where I hated his attitude. Actually I'm glad that the movie didn't show how Ron is trying to hurt Crookshanks or many other moments like when he's telling Ginny to go away because Harry has something to tell them. That was in the Prisoner of Azkaban.
I must echo others and say that I would happily listen to Rowling talk to absolutely anyone about these books and their universe for hours on end. She is extraordinary. This was a fascinating conversation and I wish there were more like this. I love that I am only now seeing this even though it's 6 years old at the time of my writing here. ☺ This may be my favorite interview with her, in part because it's less an interview and more catching up with a good fiend she hasn't seen in ages. 🙂 I have enormous admiration for her as a writer - her Cormoran Strike novels are excellent in their own right - but I'm also greatly inspired by her sensitivity and integrity concerning matters outside the realm of fiction. I am so glad that she is weathering all the storms swirling about her and the grotesque attacks aimed at her, and I wish her success and happiness in all her endeavors.

It's my favourite book dude and it's the worst adaptation out of the series along with GoF. I liked Ginny in the books and even think Bonnie was a good choice .. the writers really dropped the ball on her
Wow, such much respect for JKR. In Steve's defense, he wrote A LOT more than was eventually in the final cut of the movies. It's the directors and editors who decide what stays in and what doesn't -- but I do agree he gave many of Ron's good lines to Hermione.
Disaster Ron was so perfect in the books hahaha. like how could he hahaha. Let's not forget that Ron had awful lines and moments in the books. But a lot of fans find themselves in Ron. As apparently Ron is more relatable haha. I don't relate to him one bit. Steve Kloves had a bloody difficult job.
though i appreciate the incredible adaptation of the books to the films and the work steve put in, it was very evident he favoured hermione over ron what with her getting almost all of his lines. he also completely washed over ginny, she was only ever given small moments where she resembled book ginny, but every other part she was made to look awkward and her relationship with harry always seemed forced despite the fact that i loved them anyway.
I agree with you although I don’t think it’s a good adaptation. So many characters are completely different from the original ones, and that’s a big deal
In the books Hermione had amazing and important moments. But canon shippers make it seem as if Hermione was just this bossy friend. Yes she was bossy. But she did a lot for Harry in the books. Goblet of Fire she brought him sandwiches. She gave him a hug after Dumbledore died. I mean books there are many other instances where Hermione is a good friend and instances when she's nagging friend. But I wish I had a friend like her. As for Ginny she didn't have many moments in the books.
Rupert could have been a much better ron if they gave him the chance, the script didn't make him justice, and its clear here when u hear kloves talking about his character. They should have cared more....
Kloves deliberately made Ron look bad; hence why he gave most of Ron's best moments to Hermione. Same for Ginny having most of her character erased. It's even been theorised that Kloves wanted to have Harry and Hermione as a couple, and that's why he diminished Ron and Ginny's so much, because they "got in the way" of his preferred pairing.
Jay Dee Yess! But I think it’s not Kloves fault of his own (although I really dislike him), probably it’s a warn*rbros demand. OOTP was not written by Kloves and still bashes Ron down and favorites Hermione. Not mentioning that Ginny’s development is forgotten in that movie, witch was really important in the book. Also, a lot of directors deleted important Ron moments, so... :(

I just want another series of books or movies about kids going through Hogwarts again. It is the most pleasing feeling in the world to re-experience school through a fantastic world.
I was hoping they’d speak about the final battle scene between Harry and Voldemort... it was so epic in the book where they were circling each other and Harry telling Voldy the facts of what’s happened and explaining why he has won... I thought the movie scene didn’t quite do it justice.
I gotta disagree.the movie did fine with the battle between the two. I thought the book version was anti-climactic which ends in a very long and confusing sentence

Yeah, they totally butchered Ron, Ginny, and a few other characters in favour of Hermione. It actually makes Hermione *more* irritating in the films than she is in the books, because at least in the books she isn't almost a flawless Queen. And as we know flawless characters are extremely dull.
Rupert was the best casting out of the main 3. His comedic relief and believability as Ron was outstanding. I can imagine the other two having been played by other actors and to a better degree, but I don't know that you could have cast a better Ron.
There’s so many people in the comments saying that they hate this guy because of how he portrayed characters or how he cut out scenes. But I think everyone just needs to appreciate what a difficult job he actually had to do, to take Jo’s books and try and do them justice in a movie length is a really difficult thing to do. And if the writer of the books is happy with them then that’s good enough for me
And I think we should appreciate how difficult it was for Rowling to make all the characters well-grown so that kloves didn't have to ruin it. Don't you ever see the reason why Rowling just accepted what kloves had made? the first until the second movie were precisely the same as the books Rowling's wrote until the third and the last that kloves just ruined all of it. Don't you think it'll be weird if Rowling were angry if she complained about he characters kloves made? You'd likely think she were like an old hag witch. That's why Rowling like 'Gosh.. allright do whatever you want'
He didn't have a difficult job, the books are incredibly easy to adapt to screenplays of 2 hour and 30 minute movies. I could do a WAYYY better job. I would have give the relationships better development too.
If one is not accostumed to saris, and I'm not, they' re looking fabulous! When I married, my bridesmaid had a stunning sari in golden yellow and shimmering emerald green. (And a thick, looong loose plait) Sari is just beautiful.

I love her as a writer and her personality... I was 11 when I seen he first Harry Potter for the first time , in a theatre with my whole class...I grew up with the characters. Now my son is about to turn 11 and I can't wait to show him the magical world of Harry Potter. ❤️

Authors will never understand we don't need 8-hour films. We just need loyal adaptations. "Small" things such as Harry repairing his original wand and putting the Elder Wand back in Dumbledore's tomb. Why not at least repair his original wand before breaking the Elder? Leaving out Sirius' mirror in film 5 until film 8. Tonks not getting to tell Harry that she and Lupin were having a child. All of these things were unnecessarily changed or dropped and would've taken less than 1 minute in the film to get right. It's not about length, not about quantity, but QUALITY.
Danyl Young The quality was off the charts. Putting the Elder Wand back where it's already been taken from once, then going off to become an Auror, the job with the highest chance of you being disarmed, beaten, or killed, is just dumb. However, snapping the Elder Wand is a completely selfless act. It breaks the cycle. Harry sees it as nothing more than a magnet for those who crave power above all else. To leave it intact is to take too big a chance of other megalomaniacs coming looking for it. Snapping it in two not only stops all the bloodshed and power-trips that go along with it, it also represents the breakdown of evil and corruption and prejudice that caused the all prior events to unfold. In the book, Harry puts it back in Dumbledore's grave believing, if he manages to go undefeated his whole life, the Elder Wand's allegiance will die with him. There's absolutely no evidence to support that; again, it's too big a risk. I understand that's a reason why Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him. As he planned his death with Snape, he wouldn't have been overpowered, so its allegiance wouldn't change. That was an assumption on Dumbledore's part, though, and, I believe, an incorrect one. The Elder Wand is shown to be extremely fickle, much more so than any normal wand. It craves only power, not caring who its master is, so long as they beat the last person who owned it. Dumbledore wielded it for over half a century, and one Expellimarmus caused it to switch allegiance. That doesn't sound like something that's allegiance would die with you. I believe, if its master were to die in a manner other than murder, its allegiance would simply reset. It would lie there, waiting for a wizard to come and pick it up. They'd then become the master, and the cycle would start again. Snapping it ends that. It's the most selfless thing Harry could have done. Dumbledore always had a problem with the craving of power, and he would never pretend otherwise. By doing something Dumbledore perhaps couldn't bring himself to do, and something that brings peace, as Dumbledore desired, Harry truly honours him. Of course, I do wish they'd shown him repairing his own wand first, but, again, you can't deny there's real meaning behind him snapping it. As for Tonks being pregnant, she tried to tell everyone but Moody interrupted her. And having her way it only to later see her die wouldn't work as well as Reis revealing to he audience that she was pregnant. She did tell Harry, just as he did repair his wand, it just happened off-screen.
@Graig Simmonette It was given during a very traumatic, stressful and distracting period. You won't believe the number of times I have completely forgotten something I had been looking forward to for years, because of the stress I was enduring at the time. If anything, it resonated with me even more, even I had completely forgotten about the mirror until Harry found and broke it, and I knew EXACTLY what he was feeling at that moment, because it had happened with me before.
Or writing in scenes that don't move the plot forward as opposed to scenes that are integral. A perfect example is Half Blood Prince; the Burrow being destroyed never happened in the books and took up the time that perhaps some of Tom Riddle's backstory that literally tell us what the horcruxes are (the scene with Hepzibah Smith!) I was so annoyed that that wasn't in the film.
I'm glad they discussed Goblet at length, I was so upset at the cuts in that book/film, because the puzzle in it (with Crouch and Winky) was one of my favourite parts, but I'm glad to hear that he also struggled with the cut of it. That mystery could be a movie within itself I guess. But I could watch endless discussion around this world and the layers that go into it.
I love jk rowling for saying that ron is her favourite character!!!!!!!! I MEAN RON IS THE BEST CHARACTER OF THE SERIES and SNAPE is also marvellous character!!!!!! NO DENYING IT
I HATE that he claims Hermione is his favorite character, when he consistently wrote her as such a perfect immature view of a perfect woman. To not include her flaws-- her bossiness, stubbornness, closed-mindedness, anxiety, panic under pressure, etc.-- while claiming she is your favorite character just shows that he did not see or understand the real Hermione. This hurts because in mainstream society and media women are so often expected to be perfect in order to be likable or even valuable. His writing did a disservice to the complex character in the books and ultimately to women.
He made Hermoine look more close to Harry than Ron. In Deathly Hallows pt2 , he made only Hermoine cry and hug Harry when Ron was just standing there. IT JUST MAKES ME SOOOOOO MAD
I had a really rough childhood, but my LOVE for fiction is what stopped me from becoming a really bad person, and even though I don't have all of the movies, I've seen and read all of the books and movies!!! I will NEVER not LOVE the Harry Potter universe!!! ❤ ❤❤🥰💯❤
What I really loved that was added to the movies was all of Ron's hilarious dialogue - it is so perfectly matched to his character, especially the movie version, and to a British teenage public school lad!
we will one day look at this footage and find it so inspiring. I wished more such interviews were recorded with her - and similarly famous authors such as Tolkien.
I liked the movies and will watch them whenever they are on TV, but never had a desire to read the books (felt I was too old), but watching this conversation has convinced me to embark on that journey. I want to read all the bits they say had to be cut out.
I cracked open book 5 and found it very kid-centric. Like I shouldn't be reading it as a 35 year old. However, re-cracked Book 1 open and it's very readable for an adult. Dahl-esque.
I used to have very minimal interest in HP growing up. i'd watch each film in cinema but it never interested me in the same way LoTR or other fantasy could. Now i'm 26 i re-watched all the HP films from the beginning and i'm potted outta my mind.
Second time I've watched this video. Was pleased that novelist and screenwriter collaborated so well in bringing story to screen. I suspect that this is rare. Am glad Jo Rowling stayed involved with the filmmaking process and came to trust that Steve Kloves and the several directors would translate her vision to screen in a way she would approve.
I don't care about plot points I care most that Ron is undervalued throughout the movies and I get Hermione is his favourite character. The worst part is Hermione is great cuz of her flaws and when you take them away it makes her worse
People complain about Kloves because they can't stand the fact that Ron and Ginny aren't perfect. I read books and I never thought that Ron was undervalued. In fact books had his good moments and bad moments. People dislike Hermione because she likes to read and study. In my opinion movie made her better.
Since everybody seems keen on blasting Kloves for his adaptation to screen, I’ll give him a massive amount of credit for his work given the pressure and challenge of turning a 7 novel series into a coherent set of films.
It’s a hard job but it’s also not that difficult to give the correct lines to the correct character who is already in the scene and not waste time with dancing. Also literally anything is better than “shoelace”.

B/c it wasn't an excuse to escape from our world but a way to look at it from another perspective. God has gifted her with such a clever mind. The main reason I love Harry Potter is because I can connect with the main trio the most. I could connect with Harry the most, I almost always had the same thoughts as Harry, he'd do the exact same thing in a situation which I would expect myself to do if I were in his situation. I always felt like I was emotionally most attached to Harry. And also, most of the my friends perceived me as Hermione, so I could connect with Hermione greatly too. And, my best friends are like Ron, I love Ron because he's exactly like my best friends, he's my most favourite character in the entire series. This is why I love Harry Potter, I would connect mentally, emotionally and spiritually with it which is why it is my favourite series ❤
This was so great to watch. Seeing the person interviewed that invented Harry and the entire "wizarding world" is really something to see. Harry Potter is something that the books translated quite well onto the screen. So, also very interesting to see what kind of thinking went into that. Even where the story had to bend and diverge a little was done in the best possible way. I wish the Tolkien films had turned out like this but they just did not.
What is so fascinating about the Harry Potter universe is JUST how much detail Jo has gone into like the smallest details and characters you never see or hear from really and there’s just so much back story and details etc

In the beginning when Jo said that the books couldn't have been filmed scene by scene because they would have had 12 hour films, immediately I screamed "I would sit in a theater to watch all 8 films 12 hours long." I would be okay if the films were that long, because Harry Potter is amazing.

One big problem with making the first 3-4 movies was that the actors were children. And some law in England said that children could only work as actors for a few hours each day. I've heard the number 4-4,5 hours each day. So they could not spent 12 hours every day making the film. The director was under a terrible time schedule.

One lie being: Jo Rowling was on a delayed train after a day-out house hunting in 1990 when the story of Hary Potter popped into her head, fully formed.
I know this because Jo Rowling did not create the stories in the first place.
She claimed that, at the time of writing the story, she was suicidal.
She has amazed everyone who has heard her lies about the story.
That steered her prey into thinking how brilliant an author she is, writing one novel after another - until the series of Harry Potter stories was published.
Not once has Jo Rowling told the true origins of Harry Potter.
I know this because I am the original creator of the stories that inspired Jo Rowling to begin writing the long-winded novels of the Harry Potter series.
I began a story that became the Harry Potter series in 1978 while I was a soldier in the Australian Army.
After leaving the force on which I based my wizard boy series, I spent several years creating the artwork for the stories, which began as a series of storyboards.
My wizard story was to become "The best story for children, for the film".
The reason for that was I was a cinema projectionist when I began to create the story.
Over the years in the Army, I drew the artwork for the scenes in my primary story.
It became so long that to make it into a movie would have resulted in a production that would have been about 12 hours long.
That caused me to divide my storyboard into five sets for which I created titles.
A visiting friend, Alan Page, picked up my binder-ring file that contained the storyboard drafts.
Alan opened the file and moved it over my lap.
While I sat in my lounge chair, Alan began pointing at things and asking questions about my stories in that file.
He got me to read aloud all five title names, then asked me if there were any more title names.
I thought his question was rude and imposing into what was very private information, so I thought of two more title names and read them out to him - after having written them down beneath the other title names on my note work on the Harry Potter series.

I had many drawings in my drawing file.
I had hundreds of stories set in the form of storyboards - all with written names of the main characters and creatures and features in them.
The delayed-train Jo Rowling speaks of having been on, then thought up the story of Harry Potter was not real.
Jo Rowling has cooked her golden goose.
What I began to create as a story to inspire children grew to suit an older audience over the years I was in the Army.
After my military service years, the story developed with drawings I drew and added to my stories.
At some time, my design and story files got stolen from my home. Years afterwards, I was bewildered from not knowing what had happened to my work of about 30 years.
I was without any project to further- develop, as my stories became novels, productions or products made that were once my inventions.
Jo Rowling is nothing to me but a well-paid plagiarist who habitually lies to keep the unsuspecting readers and followers of her dastardly well-played-out plan she has been casting out over the world's people since day one when she first made an ugly-duckling appearance in front of news media.

The stories I storyboarded grew long as I added drawings to them.

In my opinion, in the books he was a bit more aggressive and savage, especially with people he hated(snape), in films he was milder, also portrayed smarter and more capable, in books he more often relies on others. Looks in my imagination also differ quite a bit, in books he's thinner, hair is crazy, eyes are greener. In films he's just average.
I loved Hermione, but yeah Ron was downplayed way too much.

But Ron Weasley in films in my opinion he doesn’t get enough credit and people say he doesn’t have enough stand out moments or his character to shine I completely disagree so while yes I would of added more to his character but I think the performance by Rupert Grint made up for that because he played Ron Weasley so incredibly well and was still a great loyal friend to Harry and Hermione and he was the glue to the Trio and kept them together! I didn’t mind the comedy their added to his character it wasn’t just butt of jokes like Finn from the Star Wars sequel trilogy.. Ron in movies was fine really good just not perfect but you could say same thing about Harry and Hermione you can nitpick anything from any character in these movies.. just my opinion compare to some other books to movie adaptation Harry Potter was done perfect and I don’t think the TV series is going to capture that magic! To be honest, I still think Steve Kloves hated Ron as a character. Kloves spent most of the films turning Ron into a walking punch-line, and only gave him a few good moments at the end because Rowling made it crystal-clear in the last book that Ron was always more than just a joke. It would also explain why Steve Kloves gave so many of Ron's best moments to Hermione, and why the films made Hermione Ron's role as Harry's closest friend and ally.
Seriously, Rupert Grint deserved better than the meagre characterisation he was given.
and dont get me started on how horrendous he made Ginny,, i have always visualized her to be a strong girl, stronger than hermione perhaps. she grew up with SIX boys and had to constantly be overshadowed by them. she felt merely misunderstood by everyone around her, hence everything that happens in the second book. then in the fifth book, you really get to see Ginny's badass side, you really get to see that she is one badass woman like her mother, she was funny, brave and not afraid of anything, not to mention that she has a very strong personality. and that the reason why Harry fell in love with her. In the movie Ginny is just this girl who is obsessed with this famous teenage boy. i was, and still am, very disappointed in how Ginny was made to look in the movies.
At least Rupert Grint had it better than Bonnie Wright (who played Ginny). Bonny Wright only had just *two* moments in the whole series where she was actually given something to work with, one when she told Draco to leave Harry alone- and two when she shouted at the whole Quidditch team to "SHUT IT!"
Those were the only moments where she was like Ginny from the book. Otherwise she was an extremely awkward human being and Bonnie Wright, even if she didn't look it, must've been bored out of her mind when doing the role of Ginny.
@@nazsherif5514 I understand what you mean; although I think Male Gaze is more to do with female characters being heavily sexualised on the pretence that the audience is a heterosexual male (hence, male gaze). It's especially frustrating, considering that Rowling used the book characters to subvert those expectations; Ron actually fits the mould of 'love interest' for the lead (since he is the emotional support), whereas Hermione has the sidekick thing of having talents that the main hero does not. The films mangling of the characters completely wrecked all those subverted tropes.

I agree with them that Rupert hasn't got much cred for his acting, but I think it IS about the script. It actually did make a prat out of him more than once. He's not the complex person in the films that we meet in the books. He's almost never unpleasant in the films. And I too believe it's unfair, because when given a chance he's always proved why he was casted. The row between him and Harry in the last film was almost breathtaking. I also think they took the Lavender Brown character a few miles too far. She really was silly enough in the books without exaggerating.
Ps. Speaking of wich, in film seven I really missed Ron silently crying after breaking the locket, and Harry admitting that most evenings he and Hermione didn't even talk to each other. Their naked vulnerabarity really brought dept to it all. And instead Ron was supposed to shrug his shoulders smile and move on. So one dimentional compared with the book. A lost opportunity.
Rupert was always my favorite as an actor. Daniel was the worst until the end. But i loved him none the less.

Lidia F the thing about Dan was that his character was much harder to express. As jk rowling mentioned, Harry is the eyes through which we view the world. You don't get much of an idea of what kind of character Harry is in the books, so imagine how hard it must have been for Dan to make him more "real"..I personally think he did a tremendous job. 🙌

I think it's funny that JK thinks, Ron is way easier to love than Hermione... I always get the impression that Ron is the most underrated character of the Trio. And as Harry is the protagonist and Hermione and Ron are his best friends, most people like all three of them.

Yes he had good moments but he had moments where I hated his attitude. Actually I'm glad that the movie didn't show how Ron is trying to hurt Crookshanks or many other moments like when he's telling Ginny to go away because Harry has something to tell them. That was in the Prisoner of Azkaban.

I must echo others and say that I would happily listen to Rowling talk to absolutely anyone about these books and their universe for hours on end. She is extraordinary. This was a fascinating conversation and I wish there were more like this. I love that I am only now seeing this even though it's 6 years old at the time of my writing here. ☺ This may be my favorite interview with her, in part because it's less an interview and more catching up with a good fiend she hasn't seen in ages. 🙂
I have enormous admiration for her as a writer - her Cormoran Strike novels are excellent in their own right - but I'm also greatly inspired by her sensitivity and integrity concerning matters outside the realm of fiction. I am so glad that she is weathering all the storms swirling about her and the grotesque attacks aimed at her, and I wish her success and happiness in all her endeavors.
Nothing brings out the emotion in me like Harry Potter. So heart-filling, so devastating. I love how honest and real JKR is. Such an incredible woman ❤

though i appreciate the incredible adaptation of the books to the films and the work steve put in, it was very evident he favoured hermione over ron what with her getting almost all of his lines. he also completely washed over ginny, she was only ever given small moments where she resembled book ginny, but every other part she was made to look awkward and her relationship with harry always seemed forced despite the fact that i loved them anyway.

In the books Hermione had amazing and important moments. But canon shippers make it seem as if Hermione was just this bossy friend. Yes she was bossy. But she did a lot for Harry in the books. Goblet of Fire she brought him sandwiches. She gave him a hug after Dumbledore died. I mean books there are many other instances where Hermione is a good friend and instances when she's nagging friend. But I wish I had a friend like her. As for Ginny she didn't have many moments in the books.
I'm envious of the fact that she knows so much more about the harry potter world. More details, more backstories, maybe even more futures

Kloves deliberately made Ron look bad; hence why he gave most of Ron's best moments to Hermione. Same for Ginny having most of her character erased. It's even been theorised that Kloves wanted to have Harry and Hermione as a couple, and that's why he diminished Ron and Ginny's so much, because they "got in the way" of his preferred pairing.
Jay Dee Yess! But I think it’s not Kloves fault of his own (although I really dislike him), probably it’s a warn*rbros demand. OOTP was not written by Kloves and still bashes Ron down and favorites Hermione. Not mentioning that Ginny’s development is forgotten in that movie, witch was really important in the book. Also, a lot of directors deleted important Ron moments, so...

@@jaydee4697 Yes of course Ginny stood out in every book. Come on let's not exaggerate. Lets say in book 3 she wasn't present much. Neither was she present in book 4 that much. Harry and Hermione had important moments in the books too. But canon shippers and Ron/Ginny fans make it seem as if Harry and Hermione were distant. I also liked Hermione in the books as well as movies. This guy had a bloody difficult job.
I just want another series of books or movies about kids going through Hogwarts again. It is the most pleasing feeling in the world to re-experience school through a fantastic world.
I was hoping they’d speak about the final battle scene between Harry and Voldemort... it was so epic in the book where they were circling each other and Harry telling Voldy the facts of what’s happened and explaining why he has won... I thought the movie scene didn’t quite do it justice.

Rupert was the best casting out of the main 3. His comedic relief and believability as Ron was outstanding. I can imagine the other two having been played by other actors and to a better degree, but I don't know that you could have cast a better Ron.
I’m 100% going to argue that,at this point, I could not see anyone else inhabiting Harry or Hermione like Daniel & Emma did, no way.

There’s so many people in the comments saying that they hate this guy because of how he portrayed characters or how he cut out scenes. But I think everyone just needs to appreciate what a difficult job he actually had to do, to take Jo’s books and try and do them justice in a movie length is a really difficult thing to do. And if the writer of the books is happy with them then that’s good enough for me

He didn't have a difficult job, the books are incredibly easy to adapt to screenplays of 2 hour and 30 minute movies. I could do a WAYYY better job. I would have give the relationships better development too.
Ron is so easy to love. Years later everyone hates Ron because of how Steve Kloves made him in the film.

I love her as a writer and her personality... I was 11 when I seen he first Harry Potter for the first time , in a theatre with my whole class...I grew up with the characters. Now my son is about to turn 11 and I can't wait to show him the magical world of Harry Potter. ❤️

Authors will never understand we don't need 8-hour films. We just need loyal adaptations. "Small" things such as Harry repairing his original wand and putting the Elder Wand back in Dumbledore's tomb. Why not at least repair his original wand before breaking the Elder? Leaving out Sirius' mirror in film 5 until film 8. Tonks not getting to tell Harry that she and Lupin were having a child. All of these things were unnecessarily changed or dropped and would've taken less than 1 minute in the film to get right. It's not about length, not about quantity, but QUALITY.

Putting the Elder Wand back where it's already been taken from once, then going off to become an Auror, the job with the highest chance of you being disarmed, beaten, or killed, is just dumb.
However, snapping the Elder Wand is a completely selfless act. It breaks the cycle. Harry sees it as nothing more than a magnet for those who crave power above all else. To leave it intact is to take too big a chance of other megalomaniacs coming looking for it.
Snapping it in two not only stops all the bloodshed and power-trips that go along with it, it also represents the breakdown of evil and corruption and prejudice that caused the all prior events to unfold.
In the book, Harry puts it back in Dumbledore's grave believing, if he manages to go undefeated his whole life, the Elder Wand's allegiance will die with him. There's absolutely no evidence to support that; again, it's too big a risk.
I understand that's a reason why Dumbledore wanted Snape to kill him. As he planned his death with Snape, he wouldn't have been overpowered, so its allegiance wouldn't change. That was an assumption on Dumbledore's part, though, and, I believe, an incorrect one. The Elder Wand is shown to be extremely fickle, much more so than any normal wand. It craves only power, not caring who its master is, so long as they beat the last person who owned it.
Dumbledore wielded it for over half a century, and one Expellimarmus caused it to switch allegiance. That doesn't sound like something that's allegiance would die with you.
I believe, if its master were to die in a manner other than murder, its allegiance would simply reset. It would lie there, waiting for a wizard to come and pick it up. They'd then become the master, and the cycle would start again.
Snapping it ends that. It's the most selfless thing Harry could have done.
Dumbledore always had a problem with the craving of power, and he would never pretend otherwise. By doing something Dumbledore perhaps couldn't bring himself to do, and something that brings peace, as Dumbledore desired, Harry truly honours him.
Of course, I do wish they'd shown him repairing his own wand first, but, again, you can't deny there's real meaning behind him snapping it.
As for Tonks being pregnant, she tried to tell everyone but Moody interrupted her. And having her way it only to later see her die wouldn't work as well as Reis revealing to he audience that she was pregnant. She did tell Harry, just as he did repair his wand, it just happened off-screen.
Maybe not 8-hour long films, but 8 one-hour long episodes.
@Graig Simmonette It was given during a very traumatic, stressful and distracting period. You won't believe the number of times I have completely forgotten something I had been looking forward to for years, because of the stress I was enduring at the time. If anything, it resonated with me even more, even I had completely forgotten about the mirror until Harry found and broke it, and I knew EXACTLY what he was feeling at that moment, because it had happened with me before.

Or writing in scenes that don't move the plot forward as opposed to scenes that are integral. A perfect example is Half Blood Prince; the Burrow being destroyed never happened in the books and took up the time that perhaps some of Tom Riddle's backstory that literally tell us what the horcruxes are (the scene with Hepzibah Smith!) I was so annoyed that that wasn't in the film.

I'm glad they discussed Goblet at length, I was so upset at the cuts in that book/film, because the puzzle in it (with Crouch and Winky) was one of my favourite parts, but I'm glad to hear that he also struggled with the cut of it. That mystery could be a movie within itself I guess.
But I could watch endless discussion around this world and the layers that go into it.

I HATE that he claims Hermione is his favorite character, when he consistently wrote her as such a perfect immature view of a perfect woman. To not include her flaws-- her bossiness, stubbornness, closed-mindedness, anxiety, panic under pressure, etc.-- while claiming she is your favorite character just shows that he did not see or understand the real Hermione. This hurts because in mainstream society and media women are so often expected to be perfect in order to be likable or even valuable. His writing did a disservice to the complex character in the books and ultimately to women.
He is even worse than Umbridge. His favouritism ruined many charcaters watched all over the world

What I really loved that was added to the movies was all of Ron's hilarious dialogue - it is so perfectly matched to his character, especially the movie version, and to a British teenage public school lad!

I cracked open book 5 and found it very kid-centric. Like I shouldn't be reading it as a 35 year old. However, re-cracked Book 1 open and it's very readable for an adult. Dahl-esque.

Second time I've watched this video. Was pleased that novelist and screenwriter collaborated so well in bringing story to screen. I suspect that this is rare. Am glad Jo Rowling stayed involved with the filmmaking process and came to trust that Steve Kloves and the several directors would translate her vision to screen in a way she would approve.
I don't care about plot points I care most that Ron is undervalued throughout the movies and I get Hermione is his favourite character. The worst part is Hermione is great cuz of her flaws and when you take them away it makes her worse

People complain about Kloves because they can't stand the fact that Ron and Ginny aren't perfect. I read books and I never thought that Ron was undervalued. In fact books had his good moments and bad moments. People dislike Hermione because she likes to read and study. In my opinion movie made her better.

B/c it wasn't an excuse to escape from our world but a way to look at it from another perspective. God has gifted her with such a clever mind. The main reason I love Harry Potter is because I can connect with the main trio the most. I could connect with Harry the most, I almost always had the same thoughts as Harry, he'd do the exact same thing in a situation which I would expect myself to do if I were in his situation. I always felt like I was emotionally most attached to Harry. And also, most of the my friends perceived me as Hermione, so I could connect with Hermione greatly too. And, my best friends are like Ron, I love Ron because he's exactly like my best friends, he's my most favourite character in the entire series. This is why I love Harry Potter, I would connect mentally, emotionally and spiritually with it which is why it is my favourite series ❤

This was so great to watch. Seeing the person interviewed that invented Harry and the entire "wizarding world" is really something to see. Harry Potter is something that the books translated quite well onto the screen. So, also very interesting to see what kind of thinking went into that. Even where the story had to bend and diverge a little was done in the best possible way. I wish the Tolkien films had turned out like this but they just did not.
I really wish they would do a 10 years later version of this!
What is so fascinating about the Harry Potter universe is JUST how much detail Jo has gone into like the smallest details and characters you never see or hear from really and there’s just so much back story and details etc
