www.dileesa.com I died laughing at my pathetic attempt to imitate her so I left it in the video. I hope you're not offended and take it as love. Enjoy!!
I Worship Gays And Satan Nonsense. She can sustain Bb's and Soprano C's in pianissimo. Impossible without support. She's held resonant G#'s for well over 10-15 seconds...
oTheGalacZo it is VERY possible to sustain and holds really high notes like Bbs & soprano high C6s even without supporting them and Rachelle is a perfect example of that.
I Worship Gays And Satan that, that’s not true at all lmao, especially with how well her breath support is, like I mean you may not like the tone but it’s clearly supported.
Haha, I know you were struggling, but it was actually a pretty accurate impersonation! I'm always impressed by your artist imitations, especially because some of the things you pick up on are very subtle.
Couple of things that weren't mention in the analysis; RF is a composer, lyricist, as well as an accomplished keyboard player which also contributes to her phenomenal vocal facilities.
You have a very nice voice! With respect to Rachelle Ferrell, I would not consider her performance to be "dramatic". To me, she just takes on something that is abstract (music) and it uses her body as a means to have form in the physical. She is not merely expressing what she is singing; she becomes that music. Most who have dramatic performances have dramatic performances but Rachelle Ferrell is on a whole different frequency. She is one of a kind and has sacrificed a lot to remain who she is in a cookie cutter type world.
shes untouchable, flawless, underrated and a sanging women. i finally saw her live a couple of weeks ago for my birthday, if she came on the mainstream scene, shed blow all these "celebs" away......i really need her to come outnwith another project. if u arent familiar with rachelle ferrell, u need to get to know her!!! lord jesus her voice is powerful
This was a perfect vocal analysis! You really went into depth with her. She definitely is a very academic vocalist. She definitely is a masterclass vocalist, and is in a league of her own.
Rachelle Ferrell is a remarkable, expert vocalist. This is indisputable lol. Great analysis. I waited on her in a restaurant about 15 years ago and I know she was thinking what does this 20 year old girl know about me? I knew everything lol. I struggled to let her enjoy her meal without gushing over her brilliance. Sometimes when you are in the presence of people so gifted, it feels spiritual because you know no one but God gave this talent. She was so gracious and kind while I was having a meltdown lol. Love her music. Forever a fan.
I love this commentary! Rachelle Ferrell is my favorite vocalist and some of the things you mentioned articulated what I have felt about her but couldn't quite put in my own words. Thank you.
Have you seen her vocal range video? Miss Ferrell is anything and everything except a lyric soprano. She has the agility of a lyric soprano, but she also has the vocal resonance and sustainability of a Contralto( View her live performance of "With Open Arms" at the Apollo). She can maneuver and master all fachs of mezzo soprano( dramatic , lyric and full) transitioning from one range to another and she has an extensive lyrical range that can easily transition to the coloratura register. Rachelle Ferrell range is from G2 to F7. That's from the lowest of Contralto range to the height of any Coloratura's range. She has many vocal dynamics within her voice and registers. Her voice can sound as robust as a Contralto, as full as a Mezzo and Dramatic, as brassy as a Spinto, (she can sing over an orchestra) and as light as a Lyric/Coloratura Soprano. If she was a classical opera singer, she would be considered a Soprano Assoluta. I think you need to do a little more research on Miss Rachelle's voice characterization( vocal fach) and research here on UA-cam what exactly is a Soprano Assoluta. It is a very distinctive and rare hybrid voice that very few ladies encompass. Rachelle is one of those rare voices.
Calvin375 I love Rachelle Ferrell I accidentally ran across her looking at another video several months ago now I am addicted . I love all the commentary on here regarding her and esp your extrapolation!
Soprano assoluta is a skillset, not a voice type… and it does not apply to pop singers. And it is certainly not a vocal fäch. It is an Italian voice description of an ‘absolute’ soprano that through skill is able to sing across all repertoire. Virginia Zeani is a perfect example…
I'm a huge RF fan. I've seen her perform 80 times in the last 9 yrs. I think she is technically one of the most gifted singers on earth. Thank you for appreciating her gifts too. You're right, RF will still be singing great until her last breath.
When RF performs in LA, she usually performs 4 nights in a row. RF has 2 sets each night. That's how I accomplished it. I've had the pleasure of seeing RF perform many more times, since 1993. RF is amazing!
colortura wow thats crazy!!!! I wish i could be in your shoes but i finally saw her last month for the first time live.....i was sticking atound after the concert was over hoping she'd come back on stage and sing some more. Man thay woman has a voice of gold. ♡♡♡
The same for me... i finally had a chance to see her for the first time (after many years of wanting to see her) this year... i actually made her a scarf, because i love her so much. Sadly, i never got to give her the scarf myself (but she did get it). i would love to see her a few more times, but seeing her 80 TIMES is so fortunate! Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Vaughan are my favorite vocalists of all time, but Ms. Ferrell is the GREATEST LIVING VOCALIST- EVER! i love and respect how uncompromising she is, and i love how she is strictly about the art. i saw this woman do a full interview in song! Only a woman that great could do this, and make it a compelling interview. She is one of the few artists where i have all of their albums. You tend to see Beyonce Knowles, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Cristina Aguilera, Barbra Streisand (and a few others), among the list of greatest vocalists of all time; for some reason you rarely see Ms. Fitzgerald or Vaughan; and you never see Ms. Phyllis Hyman or Ms. Rachelle Ferrell on those lists. Listening to, and seeing Ms. Ferrell will change your life. Her vocals for me, it's like listening to Pharaoh Sanders or John Coltrane- they put me in a very peaceful, spiritual place. Be well...
This is the first video i am watching from your channel, and i must say you have a beautiful voice yourself! Thank you so much for honoring one of music's greatest gifts, Ms. Rachelle Ferrell.
I agree she is indeed a master class. It's hard to imitate her but you still sounded pretty good. I love your videos really cool stuff. Can you do an analysis of Lalah Hathaway?
Great analysis! You're great too and funny! Also, I think that, vocally, Rachelle is fearless. She approaches her singing with reckless abandon. Even if the listener may think she sounds ridiculous or even cray cray, when she lets it out, it's...it's what you get! Finally, Rachelle is a superb pianist as well. She once refused to continue a live concert performance because the piano was not tuned to her liking...paying audience be dammed! LOL
Rochelle Farrell had an album out that have the songs on it like: Welcome to my life Waiting Nothing has ever felt this good /w Will Downing( duet ) I know you love me (listen to this song of hers and it will blow your mind on how long soft and hard she holds this note) With open arms (here is another song that she even sung on the show called the Apollo) it is phenomenal just like everything she touches turns to gold. I love and enjoy your videos so much, please continue with them. Before asthma influenza and pneumonia took my breath and acid reflux corroded my esophagus, i was an amazing singer getting ready to sign a contract. It was tragic to me when this happened and all i wanted to do was commit suicide. My voice warm ups were for me to sing a song each of : Linda Jones, Chaka Khan, Rochelle Farrell, Barbara Streisand, Minnie Ripperton, and Teena Marie. Once i would do one each of those songs i was good to go. My path may not have gone the way i wanted it to and of course no suicide, I've learned to deal with it. God is so good. I love American music, it helps me with your highly difficult language of English. I'm from the middle east, my mother is Egyptian and my father is white Norwegian although we've traveled the globe. And English is my fifth language and most hardest. Well, please do more videos i look forward to them over here. Peace my friend.
I really enjoyed your videos and your Lovely Singing VOICE is all that. I love you talking your analyzing out and demonstrating with your voice it's different than everyone else . Can you please do a voice analyzing Miss Diana Ross singing " Mirror Mirror live in Central Park , I just think her Voice on that particular concert was amazing ! Mirror Mirror. Live in Central Park.!
Welcome back Dileesa! Great video as always! That was funny when you was tryna imitate Rachelle Ferrell LOL! I agree with you when you said that Rachelle is a masterclass vocalist cuz she has completely mastered her voice from top to bottom. The only thing that I didn't agree with you on so much was when you said that she's a lyric soprano cuz she don't sound like a soprano to me at all. I always thought of her as a mezzo cuz her voice has so much fullness and richness in her mid-register and by the time she gets to a C#5, her voice loses resonance and it becomes very brassy which is a characteristic of a mezzo-soprano. I guess she might be one of those sopranos that has mastered her lower and mid-register. Btw, I did a vocal analysis on Rachelle Ferrell many months ago coincidentally but my video is no where near as good as yours lol.
She might not sound like a soprano but she is and as matter of fact she has a six octave range and she never loses anything she a master at what she does and then again maybe she's not a soprano because she can do it all so I wonder what do you call that a well gifted vocalist
I think your impression was spot on! I used to try to imitate her too. I know what you mean about that airiness and floating from one note to the next so effortlessly. She does do a lot of improvisation which lends itself better to jazz. I would love to know my instrument as well as she does. And you're right, her voice is will remain well-preserved!
I agree with this. My vocal technique improved from watching Rachelle Ferrell. Her mouth placement allows the notes to come out so full and beautiful. Yessss
Hey Dileesa! I'm a bass-baritone who's been singing for a few years now. I've listen to Rachelle for a long time now and and I've always loved how seamless her voice was. In this video you talked about her transitions which is something I've, and a lot of guys, have struggled with. Could you somehow share with me or make a video about how to better match your head voice tone with your chest tone to make a more seamless transition.
rachelle is in the tradition of most blk gospel inspired singers, the black voice is the best voice on earth and she is not a session singer at all.The album you speak about was a album she did in Japan entitled Something else, and Rachelle is a Mezzo soprano
I love hearing your thoughts on these vocalists-- especially the incredible Ms. Rachelle Ferrell. Makes me listen to them with new insight. I'd love to hear your analysis of Ms. Aretha Franklin, Ledisi, Ana Carolina (Brazilian singer--- delicious low range), Chaka Khan, Marsha Ambrosius, or Jill Scott.
Interesting. I would never describe her voice as gorgeous...and man, does she oversing - always energetic but emotionally superficial., However, when she is focused and contained, she can be brilliant.
I disagree with only the dramatic part this woman scarified a lot to own her craft instead of letting the industry control her That's why she's so amazing and keeps coming with more surprises and superiority as a vocalist in her own right she's in a league of her own, she wouldn't be able to give color and expression as much to her songs without the facial expressions which helps manipulate the words and vowels her cosanant us superb. Rachelle Ferrell=MASTER VOCALIST indeed! Great analysis!
Eh not really, she doesn't really support her belts, her tone can get irritating and looses resonance at like D5
I Worship Gays And Satan Nonsense. She can sustain Bb's and Soprano C's in pianissimo. Impossible without support. She's held resonant G#'s for well over 10-15 seconds...

Don't worry about the struggle. Every one of us singers burst a blood vessel when we even TRY to do any of her songs!

I saw somewhere that Rachelle is a soprano assoluta, which is extremely rare.

Her lower notes do not project well enough for her to be anything but a soprano.

Yes Miss Rochelle Ferrell is one of the very best vocalists I've ever heard she is incredible and very underrated , thank you
OMG!!!! Where were you all this time. I missed you!♡♡♡ My suggestions are currently Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Tori and Toni Braxton
And don't forget Teena Marie
Rochelle Farrell had an album out that have the songs on it like:
Welcome to my life
Waiting
Nothing has ever felt this good /w Will Downing( duet )
I know you love me (listen to this song of hers and it will blow your mind on how long soft and hard she holds this note)

I love her long time. And I think the album you're talking about is "First Instrument." She's AWESOME live.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Rachelle. Been a big fan since the early 90s.
Excellent analysis - She is absolutely phenomenal & sooo underrated!!
Suggestion: you should insert clips (throughout the video) of the artist that you are analysing. That would be awesome 😘❣
Master vocalist for sure. The song Blackbird, an amazing rendition, is featured on the album First Instrument.
My absolute favorite overall singer. She's the most organic singer out there....she couldn't give two fcks about what people say LOL. #TeamRachelle

Man that woman has a beautiful voice..I love have she just maneuvers those notes. That song she sings with Will Downing is so pretty.
I'm surprised you didn't mention her whistle register and how effortless it is for her to get there
Welcome back Dileesa! Great video as always! That was funny when you was tryna imitate Rachelle Ferrell LOL! I so agree with the over dramatics. I hate how long she will drag out notes sometimes, but other than that. This woman is a beast!
The album is First Instrument... Amazing album. She is so amazing.
Rachelle Ferrell is a vocal beast!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Can you please do Deniece Williams and Linda Jones?
I completely agree with you on everything you said. You literally detailed every thought I've had about Rachelle. She truly is one of a kind.
AWESOME analysis......Love your channel!!!!!!!

Hey Dileesa! I'm a bass-baritone who's been singing for a few years now. I've listen to Rachelle for a long time now and and I've always loved how seamless her voice was. You gotta go the original Queen of the Whistle Register and The Nightingale Minnie Riperton
rachelle is in the tradition of most blk gospel inspired singers, the black voice is the best voice on earth and she is not a session singer at all.The album you speak about was a album she did in Japan entitled Something else, and Rachelle is a Mezzo soprano

I might have a hard trio for you. The lead singer from little dragon Erykah badu and dorinda clark cole
I just wish more vocalist took risk like her because nowadays it's always people trying to look so pretty scared to push themselves to explore more and music today is so fake all the mind numbing stuff that's in the industry now with the younger generation, most of them aren't vocalist just can carry a note and dance while auto tuned like hell so they can twerk on stage and do tricks as if they're in a circus that's called entertainment not timeless talent. Most artists today will not be remembered in 100 years because that timeless music is far few in between now. I'm a Beyonce fan but even her music will not stand the test of time compared to the greats like Aretha and Whitney Houston etc. I hope Mrs Ferrell is teaching the younger generation because that skill is a dying breed she has. With that said I agree with everything else and your vocals are beautiful as well. Thanks for the analysis!
