Warren and D Trucks are probably the best "traditional" slide players out there......makes me miss the great Johnny Winter and Lowell George ( R.I.P. ) even more
My wife and I had the privilege of attending this event and meeting Warren for the first time...Let's just say we were not disappointed in any way. Awesome all request show performed by a great man!!!! Warren thanx for your time!!!
Yes the 5note diminished chord at the end proves it's standard tuning to me. Open tuning chords are almost always triads or inversions. Plus he only used the slide on 5 7 &12th frets.
In truth if I remember correctly both Warren and Jack Pearson play almost everything in standard for slide unless unless whoever they play with ask them to.
Warren plays in standard tuning for slide. He actually has written a tutorial book on it. Bonnie Raiett also plays in standard. Warren makes it look easy.
+Thomas Kartler I agree he is in standard tuning. If he were in an open tuning there would be less muting and more ringing strings. Further he would, at least some of the time be staying in one area of the guitar as the scale notes are all in a close "box". For this song he was moving up and down the neck within the same lick. Not impossible to do in standard with a slide but not sensical if in an open tuning. He was using the fattest (6th) string for his bass note via his thumb. this suggests he was in standard with E being the bass string. The comment directly below is incorrect as there are many, many tunings for slide. I played in 8 different ones today!
Weird, yes. If by weird you mean FRICKIN' AWESOME, then yes. What an amazing performance. Totally jealous of you right now. I wish more artists did small venues like this here in NY. Nice job with the camera work.
@@samgibson684 it's got something to do with a Fender tweed a wah pedal and a Gibson es-335. I'm guessing they are cocking the wah to emphasize the highs. Warren Haynes gets the best tones
I always end up in here,at this video ,when i'm drunk

He's a masterful player....but, that soulful voice just pushes through it all.

what was the "soulshine" thing mentioned at the beginning?
If I've learned anything at many of his shows...... It's that I completely 1000% trust his choice of songs
He has the most amazing voice! And so damn talented!
Warren was a guest on the Don Imus tv show a few years back. Don always had great guests.
Yes he did!
I love that Warren has his own stunt double...

I knew it was standard tuning when i heard the top note and the turn around. Who said it wasn't? I suck at guitar but i can hear things.
❤
Standard Tuning.....I play the same way.....best of both worlds...

this is definitely NO standard tuning - the low string = D ;-) more an open D ....
D Tuning on this one !! Tuning a Guitar !! in a Key makes it Works ! When Singing !!??

It's drop D. Warren hardly uses open tuning unless it's the weird form of drop C that he uses for "Wandering Child"
Is that seriously just Standard Tuning?! Can anyone weigh in here??
AHOJ TATO ČOROBIŠ
Most slid is normally tuned in either Open D or Open E. It's definitely tuned to one of those two my friend.
Wait is that his twin??
that's Farmer, his long time road king....
