Rubbee Drive 2.0 Review - $1k

  • Опубліковано 30 лип 2015
  • The Rubbee Drive 2.0 is a portable, all-in-one electric drive system designed to work with most traditional bicycles, folding and full suspension included!. Clean professional design, quick and easy to install or remove, sturdy leather handle for transporting, solid two year warranty, responsive customer support. Creates drag that slows you down and makes noise even when powered off, limited power and speed create an underwhelming experience, the locking pin that suspends the unit is vulnerable to breaking.

    This product is from Lithuania and I am from there and I never seen anyone using this product, so it should ring some bells.

    Had hopes but thanks for the impartial statements. Yrs. ago had a French bike with small gas engine with a friction wheel contact on the front wheel. It was quiet, and efficient. A nickels worth of gas ⛽️ and you were on your way w/o a pedal assist.

    My Rubbee uses LiFePO4 batteries and a replacement battery pack is completely unavailable. I am building a new pack as we "speak". Smooth tires are really the only way to go. Top speed is barely 13 mph. Its fun to play with yet not up to what a eBike should be these days.

  • @jim5256
    @jim5256 7 років тому +14

    friction drive like this has been around awhile. it destroys the back tire with one full season of riding and can't be used in the rain at all. without a solid locking connection between the back of the motor and the dropouts there's also no usable torque at all which is prob why every demo video ive seen so far has the guys pedaling and never fully relying on the motor.

    • @geraldhenrickson7472
      @geraldhenrickson7472 7 років тому +1

      jim: Um...One full season of riding SHOULD wear out a bike tire and if not, you are not riding very much so I am unsure what your point might be. Plus it has no throttle so...you must pedal. It IS underpowered (12v and 12 amps or so) and overpriced yet you do not mention this about your Rubbee. I would have to assume you have not ridden one?

    • @bridawg24
      @bridawg24 6 років тому

      I replace my rear tire every 3,000-5,000 miles on my friction drive. 4.2 HP (gas powered) And it has way more power than this weak rubbee system.

    • @robspear03
      @robspear03 6 років тому +2

      jim 1. Kevlar Tires
      2. One full year of riding, not casually, will wear a tire with ANY drive system.
      3. If you set the spindle pressure properly and do not over rev in wet weather, only snow truly stops a friction drive. I use a Staton kit with Zenoah G43, and tire wear and wet weather are a non issue with a kevlar Schwinn tire. Please stop spreading misinformation.

      Wait...NO pedalac (pedal sensor) eBike can fully rely on the motor. You must pedal...there is no free ride. That being said...the batteries in my Rubbee lasted just one season (20-30 rides) and the entire time I was using itI was astonished how underpowered it was. I gave up on it and bought a Yamaha powered mid-motor eBike yet ANY Bosch, Yamaha or Brose powered bike will make you smile. Unfortunately this rubbee will not. After years I am still looking for new batteries for my Rubbee. I think I can use it to power a kids scooter.

      LOL!!!! it took a lot of words for him to sugar coat the oviouse fact that the Rubbmee 2.0 is more or less RubISH. Its amost seems like some obnoxcious product that woud be sold via infomercials the "As Seen ON TV" juNK

    I bought one of these...two years ago. The batteries lasted about 20 rides and was way underpowered. I tossed it in the closet and bought a Yamaha powerd Haibike. I should have started with the Haibike or similar.

    I bought one of these. It's super buggy and flakey. Power cuts out all the time and overheats on every ride. Broke down completely after a few rides. Cool idea, but definitely not ready for prime time and a full eBike doesn't really cost much more.

    just looking at this now so sorry for the late comment: the locking pin stress failure 12:00 is a design issue and not something a rider/consumer needs to be saddled with hope rubbee has addressed this already, the portability is pretty cool

    you need a long spring to hold the friction wheel to the bicycle tire

    holy smoke. i was JUST doing research on citibike and bike sharing. and looking into electrifying them.
    and you JUST PUT THIS UP.
    great timing.
    my quesiton------is the rubee capable of performing without the cadence sensor?
    if you want to take this on and off a bike quickly--------what's the point of desinging this with a cadence sensor that takes effort and to put on the bike and is basically a permanent addition to the bike.
    so -----------this is confusing. can the rubbee work properly without the cadence sensor? i mean, it's almost insane that a FRICTION DRIVE would be designed around a permanent affixed piece of hardware on the bottom bracket.
    p.s. court---------have you seen this? it's AMAZING. at least as far as what they claim. bionicon motor. the day of high performance sub 25 pound ebikes is getting closer.
    www.kickstarter.com/projects/159947242/the-e-mountainbike-revolution-bionicon-edison-evo
    pp.s. i will save you the time of trying the 'new' sinclair A-bike that has been electrified. the bike without electric is a horrible bicycle. terrible. i've tried it. it's ...TERRIBLE. so with electric it's just electrified terrible bike. don't waste your time .......it's gettting hyped up on kickstarter now.

    this looks really cool I was close to buying the pedigo ridge rider which i still want but I cant afford it right now. but this is really cool that I can just pit it one my current mountain bike for a little help uphills I think thats brilliant for commuting! and the fact that it just pops off when you dont want it is even cooler. because most electric bikes even the pedigo are to heavy for regular pedaling 55lbs. so this keeps your integrity of your regular mountain bike. this is very interesting.

    Thank you for this. I had recently saved their site in my favorites. I have never ordered anything from overseas online. I'm a bit worried about your comment about customs problems. I do want one but first need to find a simple reverse adult tricycle (I emphasize simple!) so there is a single wheel in back but I'll have two wheels in front for balance (have balance issues from a stroke). Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Attached this to a £20 quid,($20)bike, use for commuting, local shops etc, remove battery.
    If the bike gets stolen, you will have lost £20.
    Very good idea but it won't beat the regular E bikes.

    Less than underwhelming, indeed. I should have watched this video and read the blog before buying. My motor started running uncontrolled on my 3rd time out. No way to stop it with the power button! Before you buy (or rather not), watch: ua-cam.com/video/kML7s7Boiqg/v-deo.html

    I had a massively bad experience with Rubbee X. Took me months to get a refund for a non-working product, and after a dispute with my payment company, they refunded me my purchase price minus 23-percent! "Wear and tear" on a product that only lasted for 75 miles.... shady. Buyer beware!!!
