    I just went through dealing with a missing passport. My situation was all my fault. I had to wait for my Airbnb to be ready in Paris. I sat at a café and when I left, I left my bag with my passport in it on the terrace. It’s a horrible sinking feeling when you realize it’s gone. I had to get an emergency passport since my flight was four days away and this happened on a Thursday afternoon. I travel alone and luckily had my phone and a card holder with a couple of credit cards and cash in it. It’s not a fun situation but I’m happy you were in London where there is an American Embassy.

    Body scanners are at some uk airports if you refuse them you get a pat down search, Istr there was a case where one airport said you refuse you don't fly. As to getting to Cornwall catch the sleeper? It's quite an experience to go to sleep in london and wake up in Devon / Cornwall.

    London to Cornwall easy by train from Paddington. Heathrow express to Paddington 15 minutes but not cheap. Cheapest way to Cornwall is Coach.

    • @CarWhiz22
      @CarWhiz22 7 років тому +1

      Yep you could try National Express for buses. Much cheaper than train but train tends to be much nicer and a more pleasant and interesting experience (I would recommend train as goes direct without changing, plus you can charge devices etc.)

      @Theendlessadventure  7 років тому +3

      Yeah we just couldn't find anything that was in our price range. It ended up being much cheaper to get a small airbnb for two nights. But we'll be driving out there with Nikita tomorrow 👍🏻

    So glad that you guys are coming to the west country! If you liked the north then you will love Cornwall. Make sure you have a proper cornish pasty, scones, and go on as many coastal walks as you can. Also the north coast is great for surfing if you're in to that sort of thing. Eden project also highly recommended. Hope you guys have brought rain coats as has been pretty rainy recently! Happy exploring.

    Welcome back to Albion...... Cornwall and the Penwith Peninsula in particular are beautiful. We go down there every year as the wife's sister lives in St Just which is only a few miles North of Lands End...... You must have a Warrens Cornish Pasty when you are down there and you must do the drive from Land's End to St Ives round the North Coast Road..... The views are just stunning!!

    Welcome back guys! Cornwall at this time of year is great but be warned the schools are now on summer vacation so it will be very very busy. Not sure if you have time but could I recommend coming up to Birmingham at least for a few days. So much history here in my part of the world plus the added bonus of Cadbury World (see them make all the chocolate plus buy at very reduced prices compared to the stores).

    I feel your pain. Someone stole my passport on the train to the Athens airport. I ended up having to stay for 3 extra days and pay $155 for a new one. I sympathise, Alison. I had my Passport stolen in Changi airport, on a trip back from Borneo to Aus. The airline was very antsy and did not want me to board. They eventually phoned the passport office in Canberra and put me on the phone to them. I answered a few security questions and the official said, “yeah, we think that you are you”, and approved me flying. The airline still wasn’t keen on me flying, until I pointed out, that if I went, I became Australia’s problem, but if I stayed, I became their problem. They let me board and I got through OK at the other end.

    The megabus is the cheapest way to get to Cornwall from London but it does take about 10 hours. Travel in Britain is ridiculously expensive I'm afraid. I hope you make it to Cornwall in the end. It my home county and is truly beautiful.

      Eric, Allison ! Word of advice ! Don"t get PreCheck outright. Get Global Entry because it will also give you TSA Pre for free. That way you get thru US Immigration in 60 secs flat for 5 years for just $100
      Your Known Traveller number with GE is the same system as TSA Pre. I'm also tempted to get it but we Brits have to pay an additional £42 fee for a UK background check to get into the US GE application system :/

Just a little ask.. could you include a little interaction with the people that you meet? Bad Luck, these things happen, don't let it spoil your trip. The west country is arguably the nicest part of England. Lots of lovely little coastal villages, seafood a speciality. Plymouth has a top rated public aquarium if you like that sort of thing. Your in England, have a wee cup of tea, watch Poldark and Doc Martin, have a pint of two of Scrumpy and all will be well in the world.

    Oh goodness, hope it worked out at the American Embassy today. I issue emergency travel documents to Brits in your situation in the US. Hopefully won't be too much hassle for you.

    They do it here in NC. I went into the body scan and I didn't raise my hands fast enough and it beeped so they had to do a full body pat down right there. I was touched in places I don't even want to think about. It was embarrassing.

    Where are they from? I was thinking they were from California by their accent, plus it says a 4 hour flight to NYC so that seems about right, it says "we left San Francisco" on their homepage so i guess was right.

    Never line up when waiting for a plane, just stay seated and wait for them to call your group/row. Or, even wait to be the very last on the plane, that wait you're comfortable and not slowly crawling to your seat.

    You can opt out of the scan?! I've never heard of that. It doesn't bother me anyway. I just get scanned 😂

    I assume that the UK border, took in to account you filled out the forms on the plane and your partner was there and you had been before as they would have had notice of your last visit, hence letting you in. If not i am surprised you where let in.

    I know this is an old video, and I honestly did not look through all of the comments - so this may have already been discussed. I am an RN who also loves to travel and recently wondered, myself, about the safety of airport scanners. A typical Chest X-Ray exposes a person to approx 10 millirems of absorbed radiation, while an Abdominal CT Scan could expose a person to as much as 1,000 millirems. The new scanners they have at the airport can expose a person to 0.005-0.01 millirems of absorbed radiation per scan. Although, yes, the levels of total exposure build up over time (especially as often as you two travel) however, you are still severely under any dangerous dosing. Basically you would have to be scanned at the airport approximately 100,000 times to equal the same amount of radiation as one abdominal CT. Hope this helps ease your mind. Happy travels!!

      Not all airlines have TSA precheck. Ones who don't are mainly international ones like Norwegian.

    • @TheWanderingWife
      @TheWanderingWife 7 років тому

      Chris G, it happened to him last week here in our home airport and the usual airline where he flies at least 4-5 times per month and has always gotten TSA Pre before. That's why we inquired about it, because I did get it, and I only fly half as much as he does. Nobody has a definitive answer, so it's still a bit of a mystery.

    Because you travel a lot would it be worth it getting 2 passports just in case of situations like this, I know you are able to do it with UK passports but not sure about a US passport.

    We left Poland via Paris to Orlando Florida, Poland we did go through security and border control and Paris also but in Orlando, there was a long line of Americans including us through security because it was easier for us, but going from Orlando to Paris it was Good American authority was fine but the French was very hard because the officers they looked mean and cranking and didn't care to much about Americans and the sad thing was we had to change our sim card to local carriers to work, well my phone did not work at all until we came back to the US and then i to buy a phone which i currently used now

    I genuinely thought it was just us Brits who queue needlessly at airports hours before their flight! Now I wait in the bar until everyone else is on, your seat will still be there if you're first on or last on!

    I once put my id card in my jeans pocket and put it in the wash (this was pre creditcardsize IDcards) 2 days before I went to Spain. I had to go to the military airforcebase to get a temporarily passport which was VERY expensive too. And only was worth 4 weeks. Man that was one expensive joke. 😱

    Personally I just agree to the body scan it seems a lot easier and the airport security seem to question a ton more when I opted out the one time, this is also flying out of Toronto,Canada not an American airport

    I opt out of anything with radiation because I am a x-Ray tech and don't need any extra, even minimal. Radiation is everywhere. 👀 🌞😎
