I feel bad after seeing that abomination you guys were given from the takeaway lol, so if you want to try a proper salt-pepper-chilli platter I'll tell you the ingredients to make it. Contrary to popular belief in Ireland, it's not actually an Irish dish originally, but rather was a seasoning created in Liverpool (England) by the Cantonese community back in the 1960s when they were infusing Cantonese cuisine with traditional UK chip shops. The goal was to create a seasoning that was better suited to our palettes, in the same way that the chicken tikka masala was created in Glasgow (Scotland) as an infusion of Indian and British cuisine.
But anyway, to make a proper spice platter you'd want to include:
Bell peppers, chilli peppers (including the seeds), sichuan peppers, black peppercorn, garlic, salt, five-spice seasoning (generous amount of it), sugar, white onion.
All the peppers and onion should be sliced so they are thin strands, and the garlic should be crushed. Throw everything into a wok and stir fry until the moment right before the onions start to caramelise then take it off the heat and it will be ready.
After that, you can then mix and shake it in with whatever it is you want to season. The sugar is what helps the seasoning stick as your shake to mix it, and if done properly then it will be completely coated. So fries/chips shouldn't look plain at all, they should be covered in the chilli seeds and seasoning. :)
Normally we'd have it with chips (fries), spare ribs, spring rolls, battered chicken balls, chicken wings and chicken poppers. But it can go with almost anything. Then you'd want to have sauces separately for dipping; that can be curry, satay, soy, whichever you fancy (or no sauce at all).

That was a terrible excuse of a "Spice box" guys, there should have been plenty of "Salt & Chilli" ingredients in there like chopped onions both regular and green, chopped green peppers, garlic and chillies, hence the "Spice" element. Plus the chicken balls had basically no meat in them, there should be nice big thick chunks of diced chicken breast inside those. And usually everything is organised into separate sections, like chips one corner, balls another, shredded another etc. so you can see everything individually, not just thrown into the box like a mess here. Also there's usually a better variety of ingredients too, like some spare ribs, spring rolls, prawn toast, satay skewers, rice, noodles etc. Maybe next time.... or try Scotland they created the real "Munchie box" :)

Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be one of the best spice bags (or box). Good spice bags are spicy and a tiny bit sweet with lots of seasoning! If you’re going to Dublin I would really recommend the spice bag from Chop Chop, their spice bag is unreal! Enjoy Ireland ☘️

Go to all the traditional bars for great drinks also if you are looking for amazing sea food, Moran’s on the weir, in Kilcolgan is your spot. Ryanair, Easyjet, Wizzair (and most low cost airlines in Europe) charge you to print a boarding pass. Download their apps onto your phones and get your passes on there... the majority of European airports now have scanners which will scan your phone screen rather than the paper print out (and you can do the check in etc on the app). Most of the apps also download the boarding pass so you don't need data at the airport, or you can just screenshot it and use the screenshot :)

3:10 That car rental insurance scam goes on everywhere in Europe, with every car rental company. At best the booking websites only encourage you to get some kind of minimal insurance that isn’t good enough but you don’t realise it and then when you get to the pick up desk you get hit with hard sell of “you’re going to be responsible for x, y and z things that your Crappy insurance doesn’t cover if you don’t upgrade to our crazy expensive better insurance “. Don’t blame the people at the desk, blame the rental company that set it up. Once you’ve been burned a few times, you get wise to making sure that before every trip you ALWAYS organise your own auto insurance from somewhere independent of the rental company which can be got at a fraction of what the rental company charges. Does this go on in the US too?

Car rental in Ireland is the absolute worst for insurance. It is the only place that I would even consider full insurance for the peace of mind but it is double the cost. I was told it is because of the narrow roads that cause all the dings and accidents. Let me know if you need any help with your trip! I got lots of tips. Enjoy Galway! It's so easy to get stung by car rental companies.
    A few tips from someone who works at a car rental firm;
As a general rule always have the following:
Insurance- never buy in store, either buy an annual policy for around $100-150(you can even buy online in store), buy the insurance from a broker or have a credit card with insluced insurance.
A credit card(not a debit card) with up to $2,000 limit.
    Your passport.
    Proofs of address/travel.
Take photos of all 4 corners, wheels, sides, the interior including fuel & milage and any existing damage.
Finally stand your ground with the person behind the desk whilst remaining polite & pleasant.
You can get a car from my company for around £1\€1 a day if you have all the right documents.

Coin operated electricity meters used to be really common in the UK (and, I guess, Ireland). "Put a shilling in the meter". The electricity from them tends to be expensive (the meter man used to come round and empty the meter), and the meters got vandalised by people breaking into them for the money. There are very few now in the UK, but they concept is still around - but you buy a plastic token from a shop instead, which downloads some kind of electronic key into the meter (so no money can be stolen, and the token can be charged up with various amounts of cash). More than you wanted to know! I stayed this year in an Airbnb in Aviemore in Scotland that had this kind of deal.

As an Irish person can I clarify a Spice bag , 1) it’s a comfort food particularly great when hungover 2) the spice box they got looks bad 3) Gort where they got it is small town in Galway not really a Mecca for good food. 4) it’s kind like a cult thing in Ireland , like deep fried Mars bars in Scotland . The guys have been to Ireland a few times and eaten great Irish food , guess they wanted to try an Irish crappy comfort take away food .

I have one policy when flying: I never, ever go with RyanAir. Add on all the extras, a deliberately dysfunctional website, and terrible customer service, and they're not as "budget" as they claim. Even if you get on the plane unscathed, many of their destinations are miles away from where you want to go. For example, their Paris-Vestry airport is 93 miles from Paris: not much nearer than my own home in Ramsgate, Kent!

    .salt and pepper chips
    . 2 ribs
    .2 veg spring rolls
. 2 curry samosas (don't really like them tho)
    . Fried rice

That 'spice bag' was a real let down. I'd never heard of it and was interested to see what it was, expecting some spicy curry or noodle dish. It was just what we would find at a (not very good/ run down) chippy and didn't even look very well cooked.
I think the confusion over the curry sauce ('gravy') was the language difference between the US and the UK. 'Gravy' to us in the UK means the brown thickened meat juices that you would pour over a roast dinner and is made with water. Anything else is called a 'sauce' especially ones that are made with milk, whereas (as far as I'm aware) they are ALL called 'gravy' in the US. The first time I heard an American call something a 'milk gravy' I was very confused!
You two are very polite and always seem to make the best of whatever you get to eat (however disappointed you may be with it in private). It seems to me that you don't want to hurt the feelings of the people in whatever country you are in.
Well done on an interesting channel.

I am a retired American chef. You've got us all wrong on the "gravy" issue. When we make a pot roast, for example, we make gravy, but we don't (most of us, anyway) make it out of water. We use the de-fatted pan drippings, usually a little bit of wine and beef (or chicken or turkey, etc.) broth the same flavor as whatever was roasted. Most of the time gravies are thickened with roux, a mixture of butter (or the fat from the roasted meat) and flour. Some choose to thicken with corn starch, what Brits call "corn flour," although those are very different things in the US. Milky gravies are mostly a Southern US thing and are served with biscuits for breakfast and usually start with crumbled pork sausage. We also have cream gravy, which is usually served over chicken fried steak, which is a thin, mechanically (or by hand) tenderized, beef steak that is coated with a highly seasoned flour and quickly fried. Chicken fried steak is basically schnitzel and was brought to the southern US by German immigrants. And the "cream gravy" is really just a sort of thinner bechemel sauce (no nutmeg or cloves) made in the pan in which the chicken fried steak was just cooked. It gets a lot of flavor from the little bits of breading that were in the pan, and the other prominent flavor is black pepper. I hope that helps you understand American gravies and sauces a bit better.

@@calichef1962 Thank you for responding to my comment and explaining about different gravies in the US, but you have basically confirmed what I suggested, that they are all called 'gravies', whether they are water, milk, cream, broth, wine based. Maybe I didn't explain very well what I meant when I put 'made with water'. I meant it is water based, as a broth is water based. I was also pointing out that in the UK they are NOT all called GRAVY.
