For those dealing with this problem. Get a cat locking device of some kind. The point is not to make it impossible to steal the cat, just to make it more troublesome than another victim's car.

Happened to me at 17 years old Acura tl. I ordered cheapest one that I can find at internet. They can take if need, I will order another one for 90$. However if I catch them they will be shot.
Yo, look up Muffler Tech in Sacramento! They install protective shields so it cant be stolen again!
I ended up I getting a "cat clamp" and havent had any issues since. I bought it for $150 and did the install myself

Same happened to me this week ,luckily here in Europe we can replace to aftermarket ,waiting to get one. protecting with covering the whole underbody with like steel mesh or part of fence prob. works ,if the can go at it will cause more damage eg. they cut into steering or fuel lines ,that's why lock or cage isn't much of an option

Just happened to me a day ago on my 2007 Toyota Prius. I had no idea what was wrong until I brought it into the shop and the mechanic automatically knew. This is horrible to go through and having to pay a deductible when it’s not our fault... ugh. Side note I’m in Massachusetts 😟

Just got up today and my car was on a jack. Thought someone stole my tires. When I noticed all my tires were in tact, I knew it had to be my catalytic converter. Looked under car and sure enough the catalytic converter was gone! Was not a good weekend.

Happened twice in two weeks this month. Car was parked in different cities and in private apartment parking lots 😔 I think this time I'll get a cage or something because I can't afford to keep replacing these and paying for rental cars for 3-4 days at a time

My 1999 ford e350 van was stolen this weekend in Oakland, just got it back and the converter wasn't there. They ate popular because they are high up off the ground that it's easy to get to the converter.

I live in california and 5 days ago they stole my catalyc converter.. I was driving my 2009 prius without catalyc converter..drove it for 4 miles and it worked then I drove it back home and now it does not go into gear. It turns on but does not go into gear. The red triangle came on with exclamation point while driving it back home and then a few min after it did not respond anymore. I parked it a block away from home cause I could not make it home. My insurance is towing it tomorrow to a shop so they can fix it..but now it has an issue with not going into gear..do u think that's because it does not have catalyc converter? Car was running great before it got stolen..no issues at all..I wonder if I messed it up or the prius is doing it on purpose just to be safe since it does not have the cat?

Nope. I do have a dashcam in my car that has a "Parking" feature which is supposed to detect and record if anyone is in front of your car, but it didn't catch anything

@@mamawright2238 Ask your mechanic the next time you take it in for an oil change. Ask if they have an engraving tool. If not, buy one on Amazon and ask them to do it for you - I would think any good mechanic should do it for free as good will (ie repeat business). It's pretty easy once your car is on the jacks. However, even an etched VIN is not foolproof... More of a deterrent.
I just had this happened to me, when I just paid for car repairs from a car accident that literally happened a few months ago. Now, I have to find out the price to get a new one. Life will definitely try to knock you down continuously, but it's true. You have to keep your faith through the bad times. My boyfriend just got a job today and one of the perks is free rent, so whoever did this to my car, God is definitely working in me and my boyfriend's life. I also believe in karma. I will never meet the person who did a hit and run on me, or the one who stole my catalytic converter, but, I don't believe people who do these bad things get a get out of jail free card. You can only run away so much until you get caught or just can't run away anymore. Problems will catch up to these awful people, I truly believe it.

Here's an idea. Electrify the car and add flame thrower that is activated when someone tampers with your car.
Get your suspension on bags. Lay frame when parked and they'll never get a jack under there. Costs as much as a new cat.

Just happened to me today. On a car I was supposed to sell. We turned the car on for a test drive. Car sounded like a lawn mower. I immediately got angry cause of the situation and the guy that was test driving the car had no idea what to say or do lol now I need to fix it but that 500 dollar deductible is gonna be a pain in the ass

It's OK to drive a Gen 2 Prius (2004-2009); it sounds absolutely horrific, but it doesn't damage it. If caught by cops, you'll have to explain the situation for being on your way to the shop.

This happened to my car yesterday, And i thought, My engine oil wasn't there or something, but this is the problem after all. Luckily my deductible is $250, which is still high.

My catalytic converter was stolen right in my backyard, somehow the person managed to get under the car (Its really low since 1. Its old, and 2. The tires were flat, and 3. It was in an uneven grass terrain) hopefully karma gets em because I'm just a kid who gets paid under minimum wage😅 and replacing that well it will take years.

Put air suspension on it with a sensor. Next time they climb under the car, it lowered and ‘accidentally’ fell on them

Plates and some steel wire antitheft devices may be enough of a deterrent to thieves
Had my tires stolen I had my radio stolen I had tools stolen but nothing hurts worse than replacing a catalytic converter.
Most of my neighbors had their catalytic converters stolen more than once and cameras don't seem to deter them at all they just don't care and the police don't seem to do anything.

i went over to Sweeny's custom mufflers in Torrence and they sell catalytic converter shields! cost around $300 for parts and labor, but i was def able to sleep better at night after i got it installed. Haven't gotten it stolen again!
Do what i did to prevent that i had it stolen from my 2007 prius and had to get it replaced and when i did i aske the guy at the muffler shop to tack weld the nuts to the 🔩bolt and problem fix
Thats not going to do anything. When people steal them, they saw them off at the pipes. I ended up getting a cat clamp lock for $150

got mine stolen off my camry last year, unfortunately I couldn't catch the bastard on camera because my car was parked further away from my location. I knew it got stolen because it sounded like a lawn mower and looked under the car and saw that the pipe got sawed off. I got it replaced before my smog so hopefully it doesn't get stolen again
Get a Cat Shield. The thieves usually go on to the next one. There are anti-theft bolts for the header connection. Look at the Muffler Tech videos. They will just come back for the 3rd time. You are a "mark" now.
