This is one of the most epic memories of my youth! And that's ONLY because one of the GREATEST soundtracks ever made. Also that fckn sky. I don't know why, but the amount of open space makes its so endlessly godlike, you just absolutely feel the scale. It's so very simple and yet so very effective.
I remember back in 2008, I was in a netcafe playing this map alone (years and years later I found out I was playing on the highest difficulty because I didn't know English back then ) and then a friend of mine joined in. After like 15 minute of constantly dying, the netcafe owner joined in but also struggling. I remember its was like an hour and the amount of players increase through out time and in the end we have like 10-15 guys in the same LAN playing this map and screaming their ass off playing. It was so fun back then, wish I can experience something like that again
I’m tryna play through it on serious lolol. Beat the first one on serious, and it’s definitely, seriously a time and a half :p in terms of sheer frustration. But that is part of the fun, as much as I’ve wanted to scream 😂
The timing, the weapon switching, the way you use specific weapons for specific enemies and situations, the positioning,... I dare to call your gameplay flawless :)
Hey, thanks! Weapon switching and picking the right tool for the job is a huge part of my gameplay for First and Second Encounter so I'm pleased you noticed. I don't know about "flawless", but I was pretty happy with it at the time. :)
@@dslartoo the game kinda forces you to weapon switch by not giving you exactly too much ammo for any particular weapon, considering the number of enemies. Doom Eternal feels very similar 😊 It's been years since I beat this game on Serious difficulty but I remember using similar techniques.
I love those big open spaces. And quite often there is a secret or easter egg waiting for you if you take the time to walk all the way to the edge of the level.
@@dslartoo Yeah, I always enjoyed exploring and Serious Sam could allow you to run 15 minutes into an empty corner of the map to find a secret message like "What are you doing here?", a monster spawn or a big goodie. And the game engine handled those massive area flawlessly. Even on the hardware of the time. Really impressive.

Thanks! I do tend to play the HD version myself when I replay it these days, although it doesn't have the weird physics puzzles that the original did. But there's just something about the original versions.
Well, I was twenty years ago when I recorded these, I'm pretty sure my reflexes and reaction time aren't this good anymore. But I had a lot of fun recording them and I do still love rewatching them years later. Thanks!
This brings back so many memories i remember we didn't had internet at the time so i would play this mission non stop listening to this amazing soundtrack everyday i came back from school
They weren't so bad in First Encounter, where they would always just run straight at you, but in Second Encounter Croteam added some basic intelligence to the Kleers so that they would try to flank you or sidestep just as you fired at them. Made it a lot more difficult to deal with hordes of them.
I think it's also that there are way too many of them that makes them annoying as hell. Everyone says the green reptiloids are the worst but they are rare, kleers are like 50% of all enemies or smth... anything that is overdone is annoying.
Yea i was dreaming the sound of that screaming guys with cannonballs in hand same in childhood same now at 22 so please i hate the skeletons 2 but that fckers are in front of them
The addition of the flamethrower in Second Encounter and its ability to burn through many enemies was a blessing when fighting hordes of Kleers. Since they always charged face-first at you, all you needed to do was pull a matador move on them, move to the side at the same time you ignite them and the afterburn killed the suckers within 5 seconds, so you just had to keep running backwards and dodging. Adding that weapon was a truly merciful move to us from the creators.
