Hey guys! I've been feeling creator burnout recently, which tells me it's time for another break. All the while, I'll be experimenting with UA-cam Shorts content. Thanks for watching and stick around for more videos!
That's to be expected at some/any point my man; we'll be around, just have fun doing other stuff, wahtever it is ... and play some games for potential inspiration 😇
Hope you'll get better soon, mate. Burnout is not fun in the slightest. By the way, I noticed that some of your older videos have disappeared. Notably the Serious Sam Indie Spin-offs review and the weapon analysis videos. Any reason as to why those are gone?
@@slenderminion2229 The indie video was shameful. At the time it was upsetting how no FPS games were being released, and CT kept pushing out indies as if those would suffice. THAT is what should've been the focus, instead of tearing the indies to shreds. I might not like them much but they deserved better.
Serious Sam 2 takes place in Sam's space madness induced nightmares during the astronomically long trip a rocket like that would take to get to Mental. This is 100% canon trust me.
Fun fact and a bit of correction about Tower of Babel: It wasn't based on BabilonTemple from the "alpha", but CityObeliskYard, the original third level of the Egypt episode. Then, that was eventually updated into the level "Thoth Temple" (later changed to Temple of Ptah in lore) in around the Test 2 time, which still had the big obelisk in the middle, but the layout was changed to one and the same as in Tower of Babel. As the name of the level implies, it would have followed the Metropolis level, where you enter said Temple. Compare the shape of the building you enter at the end of Metropolis and the shape of the building you exit in Tower of Babel: You will notice it's the same. In this Temple, you'd have gotten the Golden Statue, which Sam would have taken to the next level, only referred to "Terrain + Lava Caves"; only the Lava Caves portion survived, but it's the same as in Land of the Damned. In the Lava Caves, Sam would have dropped the Golden Statue into the lava, summoning a Sirian Spirit, who would have told Sam to go to Thebes to summon the Spaceship. The third level still around during TFE's "Beta" time was Karnak - Sacred Lake, likely a heavy evolution to Karnak Lake and Alley from "Alpha", similarly how much ObeliskYard have evolved into Temple of Thoth/Tower of Babel; however no map file of this ever survived. Tried to make comparisons to some TSE levels without much success, however when I asked Roman, he did mention that the entire Babilon episode was made out of cut TFE levels. Considering that many of the "numbered" levels were once a single map, later separated due to memory issues (Palenque1 - Sierra de Chiapas and Palenque2 - Valley of the Jaguar for example was a single level, as seen in the demo version), Persepolis1-2 (aka Elephant Atrium and Courtyards of Gilgamesh) is the most likely candidate of being a evolution of Karnak Sacred Lake (considering the water section in Courtyards.) And then SSHD's Legend of the Beast happened, which are the first 3 levels of the "Alpha" (CityEnter, CityMiddleYards, CityObeliskYard) remade in HD, making so that CityObeliskYard was technically remade twice in the history of the series (that level also got a "second round" secret, but unfinished). Or maybe third, because there's some evidence that the second half of The Citadel is also, at least in concept, a remake of the same idea (if not the level). Other fun fact: SS2's final level would have featured 6 Ugh-Zans, not 2, and only as background flair to show how huge the final battle was. To this day in the editor there are light entities on the level referred to as "Ughzan light", that were meant to activate to show the Ughzans brighter.
Thanks for watching Solais! Wow, some interesting trivia here for sure. Say, could the Sacred Lake in TFE explain these two mysterious screenshots? ua-cam.com/video/6rE1ogtquVU/v-deo.html
@@FrameRater Did I reply? Not showing up huh. But yeah, afaik Roman said that they were from an architecture test level most likely. Or Karnak Sacred Lake evolution. He couldn't remember fully.
Thanks for making this entire video series Frame! It's really cool how Croteam experimented with gravity defying arenas, shame they never added it back. Man I miss that Serious Bomb, it's iconic. That Easter Egg with the mini Boss battle set is one of the best in gaming history, teeny tiny Sam. I enjoyed all the Sam Features thoroughly, this was an awesome series!
Honestly im glad you also talk about the development and people around who made the game, really puts into mind what they had to overcome when it came to development
I've been waiting for this for what feels like forever. Now do Serious Sam 2, we need this! You need this! On a serious note congrats on getting this done before your break. I can understand the feeling of burnout, it makes it almost impossible to work, and you can tell you’re on the verge of no longer feeling like it’s worth it. Feeling as if it’s an obligation, and not something you want to do. Alongside shorts, you could also always post random things on there too from your research, maybe share pictures of index games, ask questions about things you can’t find the answer for, or even just post whatever you feel like in the community tab. I’ve noticed more people using it recently, so it came to mind. Either way, get some rest, and figure out what you feel like doing next. Just know we’ll be waiting here for you when you return!
Oh I didn't expect for my old gameplay video of the Palenque Demo to be used at 9:24, it's a pleasure to see that! Another great Serious Sam video to wrap up the canon Serious Sam games, a lot of things about the Second Encounter I didn't know about until this video.
Honestly wasn't expecting this video, but I am very happy you made at least a short video on it. Second Encounter has been my favourite Sam game for a very long time, only really rivaled by Siberian Mayhem currently. I will never forget the sheer awe I felt when I finally made it to the Grand Cathedral and heard that divine soundtrack play.
To add some of the trivia I know, the library banner art for the Steam release has Sam with sunglasses, in TSE he doesn't have them at all. The mortar may have worked like the SS2 greanades, so it's there? Eh. 13:49 nice transtition. Kukulkan was meant to instead be the rain god Chac based on the boss theme name in the game files. 16:49 "What a strange occurrence" perfect way to describe it xd. This video had a lot of rich and interesting information I never knew, great stuff.
4 minutes after i got off work too. Nice timing. Please don’t ever stop making Serious Sam videos. Your past ones helped me throught some unpleasant times
6:52 Wow, I didn't know you can even blow up this bridge in classic TSE, nor was I aware of a secret message for doing so. The more you know, as they say 😄Nice video, FrameRater! 😎 P.S: That line at 19:42 lmao 😂
its sad how your legit one of the only actual channels that cover serious sam a lot, it makes sense why serious sam content does so well on your channel
I'm 30 years old and I started playing serious sam first encounter on 2002, from there it was love at first sight, I have all the original and digital copies of the various releases, it will always be my favorite game, and I still play it today both in single player and in multiplayer together with some friends. I know a lot about the game, betas and alpha releases, but I have one wish... I would like Croteam to do a Third Encounter where we FINALLY, defeat... Mental.
There's a lot of easter eggs that heavily imply Serious Sam is a movie production with Sam as the lead actor who may not know he is. Like gnars with film equipment, and other hidden film equipment left abandoned, the Crollywood sign and the set where you can die by shooting yourself. There's more too I think.
Being a huge Second Encounter fan, while i am a bit bummed you didn't do a more thoroughly look in the game (also bummed that you won't look into Siberian Mayhem since you say you wouldn't do a good job though in my opinion you definitely would and I'd just wanted to hear your take on the game in a deep way, but i digress), i can respect your reasoning as to why. Also, take as long as you want to return man! Would hate to see you keep pumping out videos with burnout, that sucks and i can relate 😬 Anyways, in the end i did enjoy the video. See ya sometime man!
Now i may be late, and this is your channel and all, but after watching this i reached to rewatch your serious sam weapon breakdown, but i couldn't find it either here nor on your archive channel. Now you do what you want with that, I'll just say that I miss those vids
Fun thing about the flamethrower the Dev misplaced the fuel tank on the gun abit backward so you can see the two hole that suppose to be the detail for connecting point between the fuel and the tube on the gun this was hided away off screen due to the 4:3 screen ratio during the 2001 era. Look like they did place it correct the during development screenshot. This also happen with the minigun belt connector in serious Sam 2 when they made the game workable with wide screen. I'm not sure why they didn't fix it in HD version they probably used the same classic gun property and don't had time or cared to fixed these small detail. Since a lot of small details were removed in HD version
The secret rocket launcher can be collected with the oxygen bar appearing only near the surface. The trick is to simultaneously move forward and hold down the crouch/jump button when descending/ascending the lake. crouch/jump buttons also act as up/down buttons when underwater, and moving forward adds additional speed.
This one's my favourite. Like the varied locals, new monsters and guns. Some levels are gimmicky for sure, but I take it over being stuck in Egypt again. Something I also appreciated in SS4, despite it's shortcomings in a lot of other areas. The SS2 feature probably going to be pretty big. From my memory that game never ends with all of the different worlds it has. Haven't played it for a long time though, so maybe worth revisiting it in the future.
Been on a sam binge these last weeks. Watched all features besides 4 (still gotta play it) and got bummed out there was no TSE one. That was YESTERDAY. haha YES
Hell yeah a feature vid on The Second Encounter!! Pretty good Sam game, although a bigger fan of TFE considering some of the gimmicks which TSE introduced are just a bit frustrating and over-done but I wouldn't mind replaying through it in the near future. Great feature video as always and have a great break!
Something you missed for Tower of Babel level... It's the only level in TSE where you can encounter Male Gnaars. There are none of them throughout TSE.
very cool video and thank you for doing the suggestion i gave you a while ago. but i feel like there's a thing you forgot to mention when talking about land of the damned. it seems like in the version you played, sam has a different line. in the version i have he is saying that his nipples are like pencil erasers. maybe it was changed because the other line is a bit more explicit?
The Duke Nukem Forever and time travel phone booth secrets never fail to make me laugh I'll never forget the first time hearing the call to himself and being like "huh I don't get it" and then having it click at the next phone booth.
