Hope the puppies are doing well and thank you for giving us uodates and letting hs see them. I find it funny how journalists and reviewers now consistently seem to go through waves or hyping and excusing the slop. Only to then back pedal a few weeks later to the general audience postion.
The most egregious issue with the game is they have wiped out all the choices and events of previous game. The blight took it all. What a dumb move in a list of foolish decisions with this franchise.
You can make a fantasy rp with a defined character story. The witcher 3 is a great game with role play elements and your following geralts story, difference is, its not some nameless protagonist your meant to carve yourself into.
I admit when I play in gdr I don't see my character as myself but I feel more like guide/mentor /friend to them. Or course they would have some aspect me but they are more like my children with qualities I think there are cool. For example my Tabris is silver-togue, a quality I wish to have. My hawke is more similar to me but she is lesbian in love with isabela. My inquisititor is a good boy, he is my perfect son who also hasn't brought criminal to home(he romances Josephine, my girls criminals, isabela and zevran!)
If you have stories in which A. You must include characters with certain characteristics and B. those characters can only be portrayed within certain acceptable guidelines then you basically have no stakes, and probably no story.
The plain and simple truth is that this game is very, very clearly still using the skeleton of the live service it was supposed to be originally. 6 faction backstory choices, half of them with completely new factions that aren't written well, and with the Veil Jumpers and Lords of Fortune CLEARLY being named like Marvel factions. The Fortnite art style, the incredibly surface level combat with green health pots everywhere, the gutted companion support in combat, the utter lack of things like companion gift cutscenes, and on and on. The game was written like garbage because all the good writers left. They weren't expecting to write a real RPG story, so when they pivoted back to single player like the fans wanted, now they just have a ton of amateurs trying to ape good story writing. Instead of fully scrapping and overhauling the work that was done for the live service, like they should have, now it's this horrid abomination of mechanics from all over the place, and ends up being a 2/10 garbage game with no audience. Meanwhile, regardless of if they wanted to have a trans character, they HAD to write it meaningfully and they HAD to make them likable, which they failed to do in every regard. Taash is the most hated companion in BioWare history, even for fans of Veilguard. There wasn't nearly this level of backlash to BG3 despite BG3 being just as gay friendly, because the game was made well. Plain and simple. Was a no-contest GOTY winner. It's not the inclusion itself that's the problem, it's the garbage, ham fisted, incredibly forced, poorly written inclusion that pisses off every single corner of the fandom, that's how you lose.
I got it, unexpectedly, for free due to some dated subscription which expires by december, and i still feel $20 worth is not worth it. Especially for those fans due to the lore
I’ve been a fan of this series for well over a decade. If I had a time machine, I would go back and pay to stop this game from being made. I know many other fans who feel similarly.
The problem was making the games "accessible" to the modern trans fad means having to centre them everywhere because it's a narcissistic grab for attention
The "accessibility" is how branching the options were to making the most personalized gameplay setup to enable any gamer a comfortable gaming experience (e.g. colorblind, low-vision, key bindings, etc.). Winner last year was Forza Motorsports, with Dead Space and Street Fighter 6 being runners up. It doesn't have to do with the writing.
@@Ponder557 That is the reasonable type of "accessibility" that no one complains about. However, certain extreme people have been asking for accessibility of another type. And by that, they mean people bending over backwards to accommodate their personal taste and to include them personally. They used to claim that gaming was not "accessible" to women because there weren't enough female protagonists. They have then been repeating this process with "insert minority group here" ever since. What I've learned is that it is never enough for such people. They can't be pleased, because there will always be another new group to "represent".
I guess, we all saw this coming. 10 years waiting for this trash. Veilguard is not canon in my book. Next time I play a marathon of the Dragon Age games, I will stop as soon as I defeat Corypheus and see the ending credits, no post credit scene either.
I lost interest the second I booted up 2. Just finished redoing my canon playthrough of origins...unfortunately most of my canon choices are the "the gray warden was an idiot but thankfully nobody actually listened to them" choices in inquisition.
I may be completely wrong but the newly found honesty being displayed by the IGN/PCGamer/Polygon journalists might be because they know Bioware is either done for, or just don't have any hold over them. These guys have no scruples so they will throw Bioware under the bus soon as look at them
The advertising contract probably ran out. All of the ”a return to form for Bioware” money stopped flowing so now they try to salvage some credibility with normies by pretending that they didn't give that garbage 9 and 10s. Hence the new reviews.
The strawman is foolish, da:o had a gay, a bi and an asexual possible party member 20+ years ago and absolutely no one cared. What people care about is the nepo hires and active discrimination in order to ensure the right quota of nepo hires that is dei and the inevitable mediocrity that comes from hiring based on nepotism rather than things such as competence at the job.
Shale can be also considered no binary, shale likes being referenced as golem but not minding be called she if someone talks with respect or about her past. For shale most important thing is not being weak meat!
@mariamstaton2443 I know it, but my point was dragon age always being Lgbt, or course there are some topics that weren't treated with enough care but games are made by humans so I don't expect perfection but good qualities. I also believe it isn't possible being 100% agree with you media. For example I love supergiant hades series but I really dislike how they write odysseuos, but not for that I think there are monsters. Or for example there was one of my favourite UA-cam which our opinions aren't always same, so I didn't block his channel, despite for example he has though asessuality was like low libido or not wish to have sex for reason. After few months he understand being ace is sexuality too. Same for dragon age series, some topic were treated well but game/writers could grow. That I don't accept it giving me half baked horrible cupcake when I asked and I used for red velvet. What companies don't understand generations milleniam and after are becoming poorer so we are not going to waste our money on mediocre products
Yay! Puppies! ❤😍 All these awards shows are working, though. I'm super curious about Metaphor now. I think it was funny to listen to Sungrand Studios, I think the term he used for the character's dialogue was "Verbal diarrhea." For me, the writing of Veilguard is more complete than the series has done since Origins. It's not as good as Origins, but you can see what they were aiming for. I also find it more enjoyable than what I've experienced with any Bethesda or Ubisoft game. Not huge hurdles, but Veilguard doesn't help itself with some of its dialogue for sure.
I felt magic was quite lacking in Inquisition. They'd embraced that every character was either ranged or melee and you just spammed alternating cooldowns. It lost that feel of being able to stun or slow a boss so your party could focus attacks on them.
I don't think they tried to not offend anyone, just specific groups. To the point that it almost feels like excluding certain groups was the very point.
It's almost for sure that the whole "accessibility" thing was basically just a participation trophy, they HAVE to somehow validate the existence of that soulless, corporate product to make the egg on their face look slightly less bad. They do have their access to think about.
I did stumble upon an amusing video in which a player purposefully set up each companion in Failguard to be annihilated. Maybe I'm just an ass. Well, I am, but I got a chuckle out of it & I'm certain I'm not the only one. The sad part is these writers and developers don't care if they destroy a franchise with their agenda-driven BS. Given the big news from a few weeks ago, it is to be expected that the sort of people who insert this garbage into entertainment will go a bit berserk & double down on the error. The silver lining is gamers who are growing up with this climate will likely be motivated to do something which fans will enjoy. Call me crazy, but I'm banking on Gen Z.

I consider role-playing the most important thing in an RPG. If I can't shape my protagonist, then I'm out.
Isn't role playing the thing that separates a role playing game from just... a game? If there is no role playing, there is no RPG.
@gownerjones I agree with you, but sadly, not everyone see it that way.
